ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು 8
1 ೧ ಅನಂತರ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ “ಅಂಜಬೇಡ, ಕಳವಳಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡ; ಎದ್ದು ಭಟರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಆಯಿ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗು. ನೋಡು, ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಅರಸ, ಪ್ರಜೆ, ನಗರ, ಸೀಮೆ ಇವುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಿನಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Do not fear nor be dismayed, take with thee all the army, and arise, go up to Ai, —see! I have given into thy hand, the king of Ai and his people, and his city, and his land;
2 ೨ ಯೆರಿಕೋವಿಗೂ ಅದರ ಅರಸನಿಗೂ ಮಾಡಿದಂತೆಯೇ ಆಯಿಗೂ ಅದರ ಅರಸನಿಗೂ ಮಾಡು. ಆದರೆ ಕೊಳ್ಳೆಯನ್ನೂ ಪಶುಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಿಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಆ ಊರಿನ ಹಿಂಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚುಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿರಲಿ” ಎಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದನು.
so shalt thou do unto Ai and to her king, as thou didst unto Jericho unto her king, save only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof, shall ye take as your own prey, —set thee an ambush for the city, behind it.
3 ೩ ಅಂತೆಯೇ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಎದ್ದು ಭಟರೆಲ್ಲರ ಸಹಿತವಾಗಿ ಆಯಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿ ಮೂವತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರ ಯುದ್ಧವೀರರನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, —and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valour, and sent them forth by night.
4 ೪ “ನೀವು ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚುಹಾಕಿ ಕುಳಿತಿರಬೇಕು. ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬಹುದೂರವಾಗಿರಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರಿ.
And he commanded them, saying—See! ye, shall be lying in ambush against the city, behind the city, do not go very far from the city, —so shall ye all be ready.
5 ೫ ನಾನೂ ಮತ್ತು ನನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇರುವ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಸಮೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವೆವು. ಅವರು ಮೊದಲಿನಂತೆ ನಮ್ಮೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಕೂಡಲೆ ನಾವು ಓಡಿ ಹೋಗುವೆವು.
But, I, and all the people who are with me, will draw near unto the city, —and it shall be, when they come out to meet us, as at the first, then will we flee before them;
6 ೬ ಇವರು ಮೊದಲಿನಂತೆ ನಮಗೆ ಹೆದರಿ ಓಡಿಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವರು; ನಾವು ಓಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರುವೆವು.
so will they come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, Fleeing before us, as at the first! therefore will we flee before them.
7 ೭ ನಾವೂ ಅವರೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ದೂರವಾದ ಕೂಡಲೇ ನೀವು ಹೊಂಚಿ ಕುಳಿತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳದಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ಪಟ್ಟಣದೊಳಗೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ. ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಅದನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸುವನು.
Then, ye, shall rise up out of the ambush, and take possession of the city, —and Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 ೮ ನೀವು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದ ಕೂಡಲೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹೊತ್ತಿಸಿರಿ. ಯೆಹೋವನ ಮಾತಿನಂತೆ ನಡೆಯಿರಿ. ಇದೇ ನಾನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಆಜ್ಞೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು.
And it shall be, when ye have seized the city, then shall ye burn the city with fire, according to the word of Yahweh, shall ye do, —see! I have commanded you.
9 ೯ ಅವರು ಹೊಂಚುಹಾಕುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟುಹೋಗಿ ಬೇತೇಲಿಗೂ ಆಯಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು ಜನರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದನು.
So Joshua sent them forth, and they went into ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai, —but Joshua lodged that night in the midst of the people.
And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, —and went up—he and the elders of Israel, before the people, to Ai.
11 ೧೧ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದ ಭಟರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಗಟ್ಟಾಹತ್ತಿ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಸಮೀಪಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಅದರ ಉತ್ತರದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಅವರಿಗೂ ಆಯಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ಒಂದು ತಗ್ಗು ಇತ್ತು.
And, all the people of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came in, right before the city, —and pitched on the north of Ai, with, a valley, between them and Ai.
12 ೧೨ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಹೆಚ್ಚುಕಡಿಮೆ ಐದು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬೇತೇಲಿಗೂ ಆಯಿಗೂ ನಡುವೆ ಇರುವ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚಿನೋಡುವುದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಇರಿಸಿದನು.
And he took about five thousand men, —and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city.
13 ೧೩ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಉತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚಿನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಕ್ರಮಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣಿವೆಗೆ ಹೋದನು.
And, when the people had set all the host that was on the north of the city, with the rear thereof on the west of the city, then went Joshua, during the night, into the midst of the valley.
14 ೧೪ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಅರಸನು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಇದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು ತ್ವರೆಯಾಗಿ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರ ಸಹಿತವಾಗಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟನು. ಅವನೂ ಅವನ ಜನರೂ ಅರಾಬಾ ಎಂಬ ಕಣಿವೆಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಕಾಣುವ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಂಚಿನೋಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted, and rose up early, and the men of the city came out to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at an appointed time, before the waste plain, —he not knowing that there was an ambush lying in wait for him, behind the city.
So then Joshua and all Israel suffered themselves to be smitten before them, —and fled, by the way of the wilderness;
16 ೧೬ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಪಟ್ಟಣದವರು ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರನ್ನೂ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ದೂರವಾಗಿ ಓಡತೊಡಗಿದರು.
and all the people who were in the city were called out to pursue them, —and they pursued Joshua, and so were drawn out away from the city.
17 ೧೭ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಬೇತೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ಗಂಡಸಾದರೂ ಉಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಊರಬಾಗಿಲುಗಳನ್ನು ತೆರೆದು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವುದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ಹೊರಟರು.
And there remained not a man, in Ai or Bethel, who had not gone out after Israel, —and they left the city, open, and pursued Israel.
18 ೧೮ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ “ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈಟಿಯನ್ನು ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಚಾಚು; ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ” ಎನ್ನಲು ಅವನು ಅದನ್ನು ಚಾಚಿದನು.
Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Stretch out with the javelin which is in thy hand, towards Ai, for, into thy hand, will I deliver it. So Joshua stretched out with the javelin which was in his hand, towards the city.
19 ೧೯ ಅವನು ಈಟಿಯನ್ನು ಚಾಚಿದ ಕೂಡಲೆ ಹೊಂಚಿನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರು ತಾವಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಥಳದಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ಓಡಿಬಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣದೊಳಕ್ಕೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಕೂಡಲೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹಚ್ಚಿದರು.
And, the ambush, rose up quickly, out of their place, and ran, when he stretched out his hand, and entered the city, and captured it, —and hasted, and set the city on fire.
20 ೨೦ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಜನರು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹೊಗೆಯು ಆಕಾಶದೆತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಿಹೋಗುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಯಾವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದಲೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾರದೆ ಇದ್ದರು. ಅರಣ್ಯದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿದ್ದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವವರ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿದರು.
And the men of Ai turned behind them, and looked, and lo! the smoke of the city had risen up towards the heavens, and there was in them no strength, to flee this way or that way, —moreover, the people that were fleeing to the wilderness, turned back upon the pursuers.
21 ೨೧ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ಹೊಂಚಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಧೀನವಾದದ್ದನ್ನೂ, ಹೊಗೆಯು ಆಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಿಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದದ್ದನ್ನೂ ಕಂಡು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಬಂದು ಆಯಿ ಊರಿನ ಜನರನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದರು.
Yea, when, Joshua and all Israel, saw that the ambush had captured the city, and that the smoke of the city had risen up, then returned they, and smote the men of Ai.
22 ೨೨ ಪಟ್ಟಣದೊಳಗೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿದವರೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನವರು ಆ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ಈ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ಇದ್ದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಕೊಂದು ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಒಬ್ಬನಾದರೂ ಉಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವನೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
And, the others, came forth out of the city to meet them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side, —and they smote them, until there was left them none to remain or to escape.
And, the king of Ai, they caught alive, —and brought him near unto Joshua.
24 ೨೪ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಅರಣ್ಯದವರೆಗೂ ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿ ಬಂದ ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನವರನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಕತ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದರು.
And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness whither they had pursued them, and all of them had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, then all Israel returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
And so it was, that all who fell that day, both of men and of women, were twelve thousand, —all people of Ai.
Now, Joshua, drew not back his hand which he had stretched out with the javelin, —until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 ೨೭ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣದೊಳಗಿಂದ ಪಶು ಪ್ರಾಣಿ ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಕೊಳ್ಳೆಯಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರು.
Nevertheless, the cattle and the spoil of that city, Israel took as their own prey, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he commanded Joshua.
28 ೨೮ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸುಟ್ಟು ಅದು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ತಿರುಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದಂತೆ ಹಾಳುದಿಬ್ಬವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಅದು ಇಂದಿನ ವರೆಗೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ.
So then Joshua burned Ai, —and made of it an age-abiding heap—a desolation, [as it remaineth] until this day.
29 ೨೯ ಆಯಿ ಊರಿನ ಅರಸನನ್ನು ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲದವರೆಗೂ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ ನೇತು ಹಾಕಿಸಿ ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಅಸ್ತಮಿಸುವಾಗ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅವನ ಶವವನ್ನು ಕೆಳಗಿಳಿಸಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಊರಬಾಗಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಿಸಿ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಾಶಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಸಿದನು. ಅದು ಇಂದಿನ ವರೆಗೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇದೆ.
And, the king of Ai, hanged he on a tree until eventide, —but, at the going in of the sun, Joshua gave command and they took down his dead body from the tree, and cast it in at the opening of the gate of the city, and raised up over it a great heap of stones—[which remaineth] until this day.
30 ೩೦ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ಮೋಶೆಯು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರಿಗೆ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದಿರುವಂತೆ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನಿಗೆ ಏಬಾಲ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದನು. ಉಳಿಯು ಮುಟ್ಟದ ಹುಟ್ಟುಕಲ್ಲುಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದನು
Than, built Joshua, an altar, unto Yahweh, God of Israel, —in Mount Ebal:
as Moses, the servant of Yahweh, commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the scroll of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, whereon had not been wielded any tool of iron, —and they caused to go up thereon, ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
32 ೩೨ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರ ಸಮಕ್ಷಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಶೆಯ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರತಿಯನ್ನು ಬರೆದನು.
Then wrote he there, upon the stones, a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
33 ೩೩ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು, ಅಂದರೆ ಹಿರಿಯರು, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು, ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳು, ಪರದೇಶದವರೂ ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ವದೇಶಸ್ಥರೂ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯ ಮಂಜೂಷದ ಎಡಬಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತ ಲೇವಿಯರಾದ ಯಾಜಕರ ಎದುರಾಗಿ ನಿಂತುಕೊಂಡರು. ಗೆರಿಜ್ಜೀಮ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಕಡೆ ಅರ್ಧಜನರೂ, ಏಬಾಲ್ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಕಡೆ ಅರ್ಧ ಜನರೂ, ಹೀಗೆ ಯೆಹೋವನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ಮೋಶೆಯು ಮೊದಲೇ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ನುಡಿಯುವುದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ನಿಂತರು.
And, all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, were standing on this side and on that side of the ark, before the priests the Levites, who were bearing the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, as well the sojourner as the home-born, half of them over against Mount Gerizim, and half of them over against Mount Ebal, —as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded to bless the sons of Israel, first of all.
34 ೩೪ ಅನಂತರ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಶೀರ್ವಾದದ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಶಾಪವಾಕ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಆ ಗ್ರಂಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಓದಿದನು.
And, after that, read he all the words of the law, the blessing and the cursing, —according to all that was written in the scroll of the law.
35 ೩೫ ಮೋಶೆಯು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನೂ ಬಿಡದೆ ಹೆಂಗಸರಿಗೂ, ಚಿಕ್ಕವರಿಗೂ, ಪರದೇಶದವರಿಗೂ ಕೇಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸರ್ವಸಮೂಹದ ಮುಂದೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಓದಿದನು.
Them was not a word of all that Moses commanded, —which Joshua read not before all the convocation of Israel, with the women and the little ones, and the sojourner who was going on in their midst.
