In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 Ana masamo'a hanizana remsa hunetreankino hanizamo'a agateore'ne.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 Hagi mago nera Anumzamo huntegeno e'ne, Ana ne'mofo agi'a Joni'e.
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.

He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.
He himself was not the light, but he came to testify about the light.
9 Agra tamage masamo ama mopafi maka vahe remsa huzmentesigu ne-e.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
