1 嘉名は大なる富にまさり恩寵は銀また金よりも佳し
A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving chen ·grace· is better than silver and gold.
2 富者と貧者と偕に世にをる凡て之をる造りし者はヱホバなり
The rich and the poor have this in common: Adonai is the maker of them all.
3 賢者は災禍を見てみづから避け 拙者はすすみて罰をうく
A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4 謙遜とヱホバを畏るる事との報は富と尊貴と生命となり
The result of humility and the fear of Adonai is wealth, kavod ·weighty glory·, and life.
5 悸れる者の途には荊棘と罟とあり 霊魂を守る者は遠くこれを離れん
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6 子をその道に從ひて教へよ 然ばその老たる時も之を離れじ
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 惡を播くものは禍害を穡り その怒の杖は廃るべし
He who sows wickedness reaps vain striving of iniquity, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9 人を見て恵む者はまた恵まる 此はその糧を貧者に與ふればなり
He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10 嘲笑者を逐へば争論も亦さり 且闘諍も恥辱もやむ
Divorce the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 心の潔きを愛する者はその口唇に憐憫をもてり 王その友とならん
He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· purity of heart and speaks chen ·gracefully· is the king’s friend.
12 ヱホバの目は知識ある者を守る 彼は悸れる者の言を敗りたまふ
Adonai’s eyes watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 惰者はいふ獅そとにあり われ衢にて殺されんと
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
14 妓婦の口は深き坑なり ヱホバに憎まるる者これに陥らん
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Adonai’s wrath will fall into it.
15 痴なること子の心の中に繋がる 懲治の鞭これを逐いだす
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 貧者を虐げて自らを富さんとする者と富者に與ふる者とは遂にかならず貧しくなる
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17 汝の耳を傾ぶけて智慧ある者の言をきき且なんぢの心をわが知識に用ゐよ
Turn your ear, and sh'ma ·hear obey· the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
18 之を汝の腹にたもちて 盡くなんぢの口唇にそなはらしめば樂しかるべし
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19 汝をしてヱホバに倚頓ましめんが爲にわれ今日これを汝に教ふ
That your trust may be in Adonai, I teach you today, even you.
20 われ勧言と知識とをふくみたる勝れし言を汝の爲に録ししにあらずや
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21 これ汝をして眞の言の確實なることを暁らしめ 且なんぢを遣しし者に其の言を持歸らしめん爲なり
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22 弱き者を弱きがために掠むることなかれ 艱難者を門にて壓つくること勿れ
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23 そはヱホバその訴を糺し且かれらを害ふものの生命をそこなはん
for Adonai will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24 怒る者と交ること勿れ 憤ほる人とともに往ことなかれ
Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
26 なんぢ人と手をうつ者となることなかれ 人の負債の保證をなすこと勿れ
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27 汝もし償ふべきものあらずば人なんぢの下なる臥牀までも奪ひ取ん 是壹よからんや
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29 汝その業に巧なる人を見るか 斯る人は王の前に立ん かならず賤者の前にたたじ
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
