ルツ記 4
1 ボアズは町の門のところへ上っていって、そこにすわった。すると、さきにボアズが言った親戚の人が通り過ぎようとしたので、ボアズはその人に言った、「友よ、こちらへきて、ここにおすわりください」。彼はきてすわった。
Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. Soon, the near kinsman of whom Boaz had spoken came by. Boaz said to him, “My friend, come over and sit down here.” The man came over and sat down.
2 ボアズはまた町の長老十人を招いて言った、「ここにおすわりください」。彼らがすわった時、
Then Boaz took ten men of the elders of the city and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down.
3 ボアズは親戚の人に言った、「モアブの地から帰ってきたナオミは、われわれの親族エリメレクの地所を売ろうとしています。
Boaz said to the near kinsman, “Naomi, who has returned from the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land that was our brother Elimelek's.
4 それでわたしはそのことをあなたに知らせて、ここにすわっている人々と、民の長老たちの前で、それを買いなさいと、あなたに言おうと思いました。もし、あなたが、それをあがなおうと思われるならば、あがなってください。しかし、あなたがそれをあがなわないならば、わたしにそう言って知らせてください。それをあがなう人は、あなたのほかにはなく、わたしはあなたの次ですから」。彼は言った、「わたしがあがないましょう」。
I thought to inform you and say to you, 'Buy it in the presence of those who are sitting here, and in the presence of the elders of my people.' If you wish to redeem it, redeem it. But if you do not wish to redeem it, then tell me, so that I may know, for there is no one to redeem it besides you, and I am after you.” Then the other man said, “I will redeem it.”
5 そこでボアズは言った、「あなたがナオミの手からその地所を買う時には、死んだ者の妻であったモアブの女ルツをも買って、死んだ者の名を起してその嗣業を伝えなければなりません」。
Then Boaz said, “On the day that you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also take Ruth the Moabite woman, the widow of a dead man, in order to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance.”
6 その親戚の人は言った、「それでは、わたしにはあがなうことができません。そんなことをすれば自分の嗣業をそこないます。あなたがわたしに代って、自分であがなってください。わたしはあがなうことができませんから」。
Then the near kinsman said, “I cannot redeem it for myself without damaging my own inheritance. You take my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 むかしイスラエルでは、物をあがなう事と、権利の譲渡について、万事を決定する時のならわしはこうであった。すなわち、その人は、自分のくつを脱いで、相手の人に渡した。これがイスラエルでの証明の方法であった。
Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning the redemption and exchange of goods. To confirm all things, a man took off his shoe and gave it to his neighbor; this was the manner of making legal agreements in Israel.
8 そこで親戚の人がボアズにむかい「あなたが自分であがないなさい」と言って、そのくつを脱いだので、
So the near kinsman said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself,” and he took off his sandal.
9 ボアズは長老たちとすべての民に言った、「あなたがたは、きょう、わたしがエリメレクのすべての物およびキリオンとマロンのすべての物をナオミの手から買いとった事の証人です。
Then Boaz said to the elders and to all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have bought all that was Elimelek's and all that was Kilion's and Mahlon's from the hand of Naomi.
10 またわたしはマロンの妻であったモアブの女ルツをも買って、わたしの妻としました。これはあの死んだ者の名を起してその嗣業を伝え、死んだ者の名がその一族から、またその郷里の門から断絶しないようにするためです。きょうあなたがたは、その証人です」。
Also Ruth the Moabite woman, the wife of Mahlon, I have acquired to be my wife, in order that I might raise up the name of the dead man on his inheritance, so that his name will not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. Today you are witnesses!”
11 すると門にいたすべての民と長老たちは言った、「わたしたちは証人です。どうぞ、主があなたの家にはいる女を、イスラエルの家をたてたラケルとレアのふたりのようにされますよう。どうぞ、あなたがエフラタで富を得、ベツレヘムで名を揚げられますように。
All the people who were in the gate and the elders said, “We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built up the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be renowned in Bethlehem.
12 どうぞ、主がこの若い女によってあなたに賜わる子供により、あなたの家が、かのタマルがユダに産んだペレヅの家のようになりますように」。
May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the offspring that Yahweh will give you with this young woman.”
13 こうしてボアズはルツをめとって妻とし、彼女のところにはいった。主は彼女をみごもらせられたので、彼女はひとりの男の子を産んだ。
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. He slept with her, and Yahweh allowed her to become pregnant, and she bore a son.
14 そのとき、女たちはナオミに言った、「主はほむべきかな、主はあなたを見捨てずに、きょう、あなたにひとりの近親をお授けになりました。どうぞ、その子の名がイスラエルのうちに高く揚げられますように。
The women said to Naomi, “May Yahweh be blessed, who has not left you today without a near kinsman, this baby. May his name be famous in Israel.
15 彼はあなたのいのちを新たにし、あなたの老年を養う者となるでしょう。あなたを愛するあなたの嫁、七人のむすこにもまさる彼女が彼を産んだのですから」。
May he be for you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.”
16 そこでナオミはその子をとり、ふところに置いて、養い育てた。
Naomi took the child, laid him in her bosom, and took care of him.
17 近所の女たちは「ナオミに男の子が生れた」と言って、彼に名をつけ、その名をオベデと呼んだ。彼はダビデの父であるエッサイの父となった。
The women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse, who became the father of David.
18 さてペレヅの子孫は次のとおりである。ペレヅからヘヅロンが生れ、
Now these were the descendants of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron,
19 ヘヅロンからラムが生れ、ラムからアミナダブが生れ、
Hezron became the father of Ram, Ram became the father of Amminadab,
20 アミナダブからナションが生れ、ナションからサルモンが生れ、
Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, Nahshon became the father of Salmon,
21 サルモンからボアズが生れ、ボアズからオベデが生れ、
Salmon became the father of Boaz, Boaz became the father of Obed,
22 オベデからエッサイが生れ、エッサイからダビデが生れた。
Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David.
