ルツ記 2
1 さてナオミには、夫エリメレクの一族で、非常に裕福なひとりの親戚があって、その名をボアズといった。
And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2 モアブの女ルツはナオミに言った、「どうぞ、わたしを畑に行かせてください。だれか親切な人が見当るならば、わたしはその方のあとについて落ち穂を拾います」。ナオミが彼女に「娘よ、行きなさい」と言ったので、
And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3 ルツは行って、刈る人たちのあとに従い、畑で落ち穂を拾ったが、彼女ははからずもエリメレクの一族であるボアズの畑の部分にきた。
And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4 その時ボアズは、ベツレヘムからきて、刈る者どもに言った、「主があなたがたと共におられますように」。彼らは答えた、「主があなたを祝福されますように」。
And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless you.
5 ボアズは刈る人たちを監督しているしもべに言った、「これはだれの娘ですか」。
Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
6 刈る人たちを監督しているしもべは答えた、「あれはモアブの女で、モアブの地からナオミと一緒に帰ってきたのですが、
And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
7 彼女は『どうぞ、わたしに、刈る人たちのあとについて、束のあいだで、落ち穂を拾い集めさせてください』と言いました。そして彼女は朝早くきて、今まで働いて、少しのあいだも休みませんでした」。
And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
8 ボアズはルツに言った、「娘よ、お聞きなさい。ほかの畑に穂を拾いに行ってはいけません。またここを去ってはなりません。わたしのところで働く女たちを離れないで、ここにいなさい。
Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hear you not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from behind, but abide here fast by my maidens:
9 人々が刈りとっている畑に目をとめて、そのあとについて行きなさい。わたしは若者たちに命じて、あなたのじゃまをしないようにと、言っておいたではありませんか。あなたがかわく時には水がめのところへ行って、若者たちのくんだのを飲みなさい」。
Let your eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go you after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch you? and when you are thirsty, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
10 彼女は地に伏して拝し、彼に言った、「どうしてあなたは、わたしのような外国人を顧みて、親切にしてくださるのですか」。
Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in your eyes, that you should take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11 ボアズは答えて彼女に言った、「あなたの夫が死んでこのかた、あなたがしゅうとめにつくしたこと、また自分の父母と生れた国を離れて、かつて知らなかった民のところにきたことは皆わたしに聞えました。
And Boaz answered and said unto her, It has fully been showed me, all that you have done unto your mother in law since the death of your husband: and how you have left your father and your mother, and the land of your nativity, and are come unto a people which you knew not in time past.
12 どうぞ、主があなたのしたことに報いられるように。どうぞ、イスラエルの神、主、すなわちあなたがその翼の下に身を寄せようとしてきた主からじゅうぶんの報いを得られるように」。
The LORD recompense your work, and a full reward be given you of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings you are come to trust.
13 彼女は言った、「わが主よ、まことにありがとうございます。わたしはあなたのはしためのひとりにも及ばないのに、あなたはこんなにわたしを慰め、はしためにねんごろに語られました」。
Then she said, Let me find favour in your sight, my lord; for that you have comforted me, and for that you have spoken friendly unto your handmaid, though I be not like unto one of your handmaidens.
14 食事の時、ボアズは彼女に言った、「ここへきて、パンを食べ、あなたの食べる物を酢に浸しなさい」。彼女が刈る人々のかたわらにすわったので、ボアズは焼麦を彼女に与えた。彼女は飽きるほど食べて残した。
And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come you here, and eat of the bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15 そして彼女がまた穂を拾おうと立ちあがったとき、ボアズは若者たちに命じて言った、「彼女には束の間でも穂を拾わせなさい。とがめてはならない。
And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16 また彼女のために束からわざと抜き落しておいて拾わせなさい。しかってはならない」。
And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17 こうして彼女は夕暮まで畑で落ち穂を拾った。そして拾った穂を打つと、大麦は一エパほどあった。
So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
18 彼女はそれを携えて町にはいり、しゅうとめにその拾ったものを見せ、かつ食べ飽きて、残して持ちかえったものを取り出して与えた。
And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
19 しゅうとめは彼女に言った、「あなたは、きょう、どこで穂を拾いましたか。どこで働きましたか。あなたをそのように顧みてくださったかたに、どうか祝福があるように」。そこで彼女は自分がだれの所で働いたかを、しゅうとめに告げて、「わたしが、きょう働いたのはボアズという名の人の所です」と言った。
And her mother in law said unto her, Where have you gleaned to day? and where wrought you? blessed be he that did take knowledge of you. And she showed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
20 ナオミは嫁に言った、「生きている者をも、死んだ者をも、顧みて、いつくしみを賜わる主が、どうぞその人を祝福されますように」。ナオミはまた彼女に言った、「その人はわたしたちの縁者で、最も近い親戚のひとりです」。
And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who has not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
21 モアブの女ルツは言った、「その人はまたわたしに『あなたはわたしのところの刈入れが全部終るまで、わたしのしもべたちのそばについていなさい』と言いました」。
And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, You shall keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22 ナオミは嫁ルツに言った、「娘よ、その人のところで働く女たちと一緒に出かけるのはけっこうです。そうすればほかの畑で人にいじめられるのを免れるでしょう」。
And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, that they meet you not in any other field.
23 それで彼女はボアズのところで働く女たちのそばについていて穂を拾い、大麦刈と小麦刈の終るまでそうした。こうして彼女はしゅうとめと一緒に暮した。
So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
