ローマ人への手紙 13
1 すべての人は、上に立つ権威に従うべきである。なぜなら、神によらない権威はなく、おおよそ存在している権威は、すべて神によって立てられたものだからである。
Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
2 したがって、権威に逆らう者は、神の定めにそむく者である。そむく者は、自分の身にさばきを招くことになる。
Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
3 いったい、支配者たちは、善事をする者には恐怖でなく、悪事をする者にこそ恐怖である。あなたは権威を恐れないことを願うのか。それでは、善事をするがよい。そうすれば、彼からほめられるであろう。
For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,
4 彼は、あなたに益を与えるための神の僕なのである。しかし、もしあなたが悪事をすれば、恐れなければならない。彼はいたずらに剣を帯びているのではない。彼は神の僕であって、悪事を行う者に対しては、怒りをもって報いるからである。
for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
5 だから、ただ怒りをのがれるためだけではなく、良心のためにも従うべきである。
Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
6 あなたがたが貢を納めるのも、また同じ理由からである。彼らは神に仕える者として、もっぱらこの務に携わっているのである。
For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.
7 あなたがたは、彼らすべてに対して、義務を果しなさい。すなわち、貢を納むべき者には貢を納め、税を納むべき者には税を納め、恐るべき者は恐れ、敬うべき者は敬いなさい。
Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
8 互に愛し合うことの外は、何人にも借りがあってはならない。人を愛する者は、律法を全うするのである。
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 「姦淫するな、殺すな、盗むな、むさぼるな」など、そのほかに、どんな戒めがあっても、結局「自分を愛するようにあなたの隣り人を愛せよ」というこの言葉に帰する。
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 愛は隣り人に害を加えることはない。だから、愛は律法を完成するものである。
Love does not harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
11 なお、あなたがたは時を知っているのだから、特に、この事を励まねばならない。すなわち、あなたがたの眠りからさめるべき時が、すでにきている。なぜなら今は、わたしたちの救が、初め信じた時よりも、もっと近づいているからである。
Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
12 夜はふけ、日が近づいている。それだから、わたしたちは、やみのわざを捨てて、光の武具を着けようではないか。
The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
13 そして、宴楽と泥酔、淫乱と好色、争いとねたみを捨てて、昼歩くように、つつましく歩こうではないか。
Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
14 あなたがたは、主イエス・キリストを着なさい。肉の欲を満たすことに心を向けてはならない。
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
