民数記 32

1 ルベンの子孫とガドの子孫とは非常に多くの家畜の群れを持っていた。彼らがヤゼルの地と、ギレアデの地とを見ると、そこは家畜を飼うのに適していたので、

Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle. And when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle,

2 ガドの子孫とルベンの子孫とがきて、モーセと、祭司エレアザルと、会衆のつかさたちとに言った、

the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the rulers of the congregation, saying,

3 「アタロテ、デボン、ヤゼル、ニムラ、ヘシボン、エレアレ、シバム、ネボ、ベオン、

Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

4 すなわち主がイスラエルの会衆の前に撃ち滅ぼされた国は、家畜を飼うのに適した地ですが、しもべらは家畜を持っています」。

the land which Jehovah smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle.

5 彼らはまた言った、「それでもし、あなたの恵みを得られますなら、どうぞこの地をしもべらの領地にして、われわれにヨルダンを渡らせないでください」。

And they said, If we have found favor in thy sight, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession. Bring us not over the Jordan.

6 モーセはガドの子孫とルベンの子孫とに言った、「あなたがたは兄弟が戦いに行くのに、ここにすわっていようというのか。

And Moses said to the sons of Gad, and to the sons of Reuben, Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall ye sit here?

7 どうしてあなたがたはイスラエルの人々の心をくじいて、主が彼らに与えられる地に渡ることができないようにするのか。

And why do ye discourage the heart of the sons of Israel from going over into the land which Jehovah has given them?

8 あなたがたの先祖も、わたしがカデシ・バルネアから、その地を見るためにつかわした時に、同じようなことをした。

Thus did your fathers when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.

9 すなわち彼らはエシコルの谷に行って、その地を見たとき、イスラエルの人々の心をくじいて、主が与えられる地に行くことができないようにした。

For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Jehovah had given them.

10 そこでその時、主は怒りを発し、誓って言われた、

And Jehovah's anger was kindled in that day, and he swore, saying,

11 『エジプトから出てきた人々で二十歳以上の者はひとりもわたしがアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに誓った地を見ることはできない。彼らはわたしに従わなかったからである。

Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me,

12 ただケニズびとエフンネの子カレブとヌンの子ヨシュアとはそうではない。このふたりは全く主に従ったからである』。

except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have wholly followed Jehovah.

13 主はこのようにイスラエルにむかって怒りを発し、彼らを四十年のあいだ荒野にさまよわされたので、主の前に悪を行ったその世代の人々は、ついにみな滅びた。

And Jehovah's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander to and fro in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of Jehovah was consumed.

14 あなたがたはその父に代って立った罪びとのやからであって、主のイスラエルに対する激しい怒りをさらに増そうとしている。

And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of Jehovah toward Israel.

15 あなたがたがもしそむいて主に従わないならば、主はまたこの民を荒野にすておかれるであろう。そうすればあなたがたはこの民をことごとく滅ぼすに至るであろう」。

For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness, and ye will destroy all this people.

16 彼らはモーセのところへ進み寄って言った、「われわれはこの所に、群れのために羊のおりを建て、また子供たちのために町々を建てようと思います。

And they came near to him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones,

17 しかし、われわれは武装してイスラエルの人々の前に進み、彼らをその所へ導いて行きましょう。ただわれわれの子供たちは、この地の住民の害をのがれるため、堅固な町々に住ませておかなければなりません。

but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the sons of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. And our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 われわれはイスラエルの人々が、おのおのその嗣業を受けるまでは、家に帰りません。

We will not return to our houses until the sons of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

19 またわれわれはヨルダンのかなたで彼らとともには嗣業を受けません。われわれはヨルダンのこなた、すなわち東の方で嗣業を受けるからです」。

For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan, and forward, because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.

20 モーセは彼らに言った、「もし、あなたがたがそのようにし、みな武装して主の前に行って戦い、

And Moses said to them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will arm yourselves to go before Jehovah to the war,

21 みな武装して主の前に行ってヨルダン川を渡り、主がその敵を自分の前から追い払われて、

and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before Jehovah, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,

22 この国が主の前に征服されて後、帰ってくるならば、あなたがたは主の前にも、イスラエルの前にも、とがめはないであろう。そしてこの地は主の前にあなたがたの所有となるであろう。

and the land is subdued before Jehovah, then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless towards Jehovah, and towards Israel, and this land shall be to you for a possession before Jehovah.

23 しかし、そうしないならば、あなたがたは主にむかって罪を犯した者となり、その罪は必ず身に及ぶことを知らなければならない。

But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against Jehovah, and be sure your sin will find you out.

24 あなたがたは子供たちのために町々を建て、羊のために、おりを建てなさい。しかし、あなたがたは約束したことは行わなければならない」。

Build for you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep, and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.

25 ガドの子孫とルベンの子孫とは、モーセに言った、「しもべらはあなたの命じられたとおりにいたします。

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commands.

26 われわれの子供たちと妻と羊と、すべての家畜とは、このギレアデの町々に残します。

Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead,

27 しかし、しもべらはみな武装して、あなたの言われるとおり、主の前に渡って行って戦います」。

but thy servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Jehovah to battle, as my lord says.

28 モーセは彼らのことについて、祭司エレアザルと、ヌンの子ヨシュアと、イスラエルの人々の部族のうちの氏族のかしらたちとに命じた。

So Moses gave charge concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

29 そしてモーセは彼らに言った、「ガドの子孫と、ルベンの子孫とが、おのおの武装してあなたがたと一緒にヨルダンを渡り、主の前に戦って、その地をあなたがたが征服するならば、あなたがたは彼らにギレアデの地を領地として与えなければならない。

And Moses said to them, If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man that is armed to battle, before Jehovah, and the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession,

30 しかし、もし彼らが武装してあなたがたと一緒に渡って行かないならば、彼らはカナンの地であなたがたのうちに領地を獲なければならない」。

but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

31 ガドの子孫と、ルベンの子孫とは答えて言った、「しもべらは主が言われたとおりにいたします。

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, As Jehovah has said to thy servants, so we will do.

32 われわれは武装して、主の前にカナンの地へ渡って行きますが、ヨルダンのこなたで、われわれの嗣業をもつことにします」。

We will pass over armed before Jehovah into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance is with us beyond the Jordan.

33 そこでモーセはガドの子孫と、ルベンの子孫と、ヨセフの子マナセの部族の半ばとに、アモリびとの王シホンの国と、バシャンの王オグの国とを与えた。すなわち、その国およびその領内の町々とその町々の周囲の地とを与えた。

And Moses gave to them, even to the sons of Gad, and to the sons of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to the cities of it with their borders, even the cities of the land round about.

34 こうしてガドの子孫は、デボン、アタロテ、アロエル、

And the sons of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

35 アテロテ・ショパン、ヤゼル、ヨグベハ、

and Atrothshophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,

36 ベテニムラ、ベテハランなどの堅固な町々を建て、羊のおりを建てた。

and Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.

37 またルベンの子孫は、ヘシボン、エレアレ、キリヤタイム、

And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,

38 および後に名を改めたネボと、バアル・メオンの町を建て、またシブマの町を建てた。彼らは建てた町々に新しい名を与えた。

and Nebo, and Baal-meon, (their names being changed, ) and Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities which they built.

39 またマナセの子マキルの子孫はギレアデに行って、そこを取り、その住民アモリびとを追い払ったので、

And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites that were in it.

40 モーセはギレアデをマナセの子マキルに与えてそこに住まわせた。

And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it.

41 またマナセの子ヤイルは行って村々を取り、それをハオテヤイルと名づけた。

And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the towns of it, and called them Havvoth-jair.

42 またノバは行ってケナテとその村々を取り、自分の名にしたがって、それをノバと名づけた。

And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages of it, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
