マタイの福音書 3
1 そのころ、バプテスマのヨハネが現れ、ユダヤの荒野で教を宣べて言った、
And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 「悔い改めよ、天国は近づいた」。
saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 預言者イザヤによって、「荒野で呼ばわる者の声がする、『主の道を備えよ、その道筋をまっすぐにせよ』」と言われたのは、この人のことである。
For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
4 このヨハネは、らくだの毛ごろもを着物にし、腰に皮の帯をしめ、いなごと野蜜とを食物としていた。
Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 すると、エルサレムとユダヤ全土とヨルダン附近一帯の人々が、ぞくぞくとヨハネのところに出てきて、
Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan;
6 自分の罪を告白し、ヨルダン川でヨハネからバプテスマを受けた。
and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 ヨハネは、パリサイ人やサドカイ人が大ぜいバプテスマを受けようとしてきたのを見て、彼らに言った、「まむしの子らよ、迫ってきている神の怒りから、おまえたちはのがれられると、だれが教えたのか。
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 だから、悔改めにふさわしい実を結べ。
Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
9 自分たちの父にはアブラハムがあるなどと、心の中で思ってもみるな。おまえたちに言っておく、神はこれらの石ころからでも、アブラハムの子を起すことができるのだ。
and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 斧がすでに木の根もとに置かれている。だから、良い実を結ばない木はことごとく切られて、火の中に投げ込まれるのだ。
And even now is the axe laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 わたしは悔改めのために、水でおまえたちにバプテスマを授けている。しかし、わたしのあとから来る人はわたしよりも力のあるかたで、わたしはそのくつをぬがせてあげる値うちもない。このかたは、聖霊と火とによっておまえたちにバプテスマをお授けになるであろう。
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:
12 また、箕を手に持って、打ち場の麦をふるい分け、麦は倉に納め、からは消えない火で焼き捨てるであろう」。
whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
13 そのときイエスは、ガリラヤを出てヨルダン川に現れ、ヨハネのところにきて、バプテスマを受けようとされた。
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 ところがヨハネは、それを思いとどまらせようとして言った、「わたしこそあなたからバプテスマを受けるはずですのに、あなたがわたしのところにおいでになるのですか」。
But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 しかし、イエスは答えて言われた、「今は受けさせてもらいたい。このように、すべての正しいことを成就するのは、われわれにふさわしいことである」。そこでヨハネはイエスの言われるとおりにした。
But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
16 イエスはバプテスマを受けるとすぐ、水から上がられた。すると、見よ、天が開け、神の御霊がはとのように自分の上に下ってくるのを、ごらんになった。
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
17 また天から声があって言った、「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心にかなう者である」。
and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
