士師記 16
1 サムソンはガザへ行って、そこでひとりの遊女を見、その女のところにはいった。
And Samson went from there to Gaza, and saw a prostitute there, and went in to her.
2 「サムソンがここにきた」と、ガザの人々に告げるものがあったので、ガザの人々はその所を取り囲み、夜通し町の門で待ち伏せし、「われわれは朝まで待って彼を殺そう」と言って、夜通し静かにしていた。
And it was reported to the Gazites, saying, "Samson is here." They surrounded him, and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city, and were quiet all night, saying, "Wait until morning light, then we will kill him."
3 サムソンは夜中まで寝たが、夜中に起きて、町の門のとびらと二つの門柱に手をかけて、貫の木もろともに引き抜き、肩に載せて、ヘブロンの向かいにある山の頂に運んで行った。
Now Samson rested until midnight, but got up at midnight and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is overlooking Hebron, and set them down there.
4 この後、サムソンはソレクの谷にいるデリラという女を愛した。
It came to pass afterward, that he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5 ペリシテびとの君たちはその女のところにきて言った、「あなたはサムソンを説きすすめて、彼の大力はどこにあるのか、またわれわれはどうすれば彼に勝って、彼を縛り苦しめることができるかを見つけなさい。そうすればわれわれはおのおの銀千百枚ずつをあなたにさしあげましょう」。
The lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, "Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver."
6 そこでデリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたの大力はどこにあるのか、またどうすればあなたを縛って苦しめることができるか、どうぞわたしに聞かせてください」。
Delilah said to Samson, "Please tell me where your great strength lies, and how you can be bound and subdued."
7 サムソンは女に言った、「人々がもし、かわいたことのない七本の新しい弓弦をもってわたしを縛るなら、わたしは弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。
Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man."
8 そこでペリシテびとの君たちが、かわいたことのない七本の新しい弓弦を女に持ってきたので、女はそれをもってサムソンを縛った。
Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green cords which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9 女はかねて奥のへやに人を忍ばせておいて、サムソンに言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。しかしサムソンはその弓弦を、あたかも亜麻糸が火にあって断たれるように断ち切った。こうして彼の力の秘密は知れなかった。
Now she had an ambush waiting in the inner room. She said to him, "The Philistines are on you, Samson." He broke the cords, as a string of tow is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known.
10 デリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたはわたしを欺いて、うそを言いました。どうしたらあなたを縛ることができるか、どうぞ今わたしに聞かせてください」。
Delilah said to Samson, "Look, you have mocked me, and told me lies: now please tell me with which you might be bound."
11 サムソンは女に言った、「もし人々がまだ用いたことのない新しい綱をもって、わたしを縛るなら、弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。
He said to her, "If they only bind me with new ropes with which no work has been done, then shall I become weak, and be as another man."
12 そこでデリラは新しい綱をとり、それをもって彼を縛り、そして彼に言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。時に人々は奥のへやに忍んでいたが、サムソンはその綱を糸のように腕から断ち落した。
So Delilah took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said to him, "The Philistines are on you, Samson." The ambush was waiting in the inner room. He broke them off his arms like a thread.
13 そこでデリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたは今まで、わたしを欺いて、うそを言いましたが、どうしたらあなたを縛ることができるか、わたしに聞かせてください」。彼は女に言った、「あなたがもし、わたしの髪の毛七ふさを機の縦糸と一緒に織って、くぎでそれを留めておくならば、わたしは弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。そこで彼が眠ったとき、デリラはサムソンの髪の毛、七ふさをとって、それを機の縦糸に織り込み、
Delilah said to Samson, "Until now, you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me how you might be bound." He said to her, "If you weave the seven braids on my head with the fabric and fasten them with the pin, then I will be weak as another man."
14 くぎでそれを留めておいて、彼に言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。しかしサムソンは目をさまして、くぎと機と縦糸とを引き抜いた。
So while he slept, Delilah took the seven braids on his head, and wove them with the fabric, and she fastened it with the pin, and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he awoke from his sleep, and pulled away the pin of the loom and the fabric.
15 そこで女はサムソンに言った、「あなたの心がわたしを離れているのに、どうして『おまえを愛する』と言うことができますか。あなたはすでに三度もわたしを欺き、あなたの大力がどこにあるかをわたしに告げませんでした」。
She said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you,' when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies."
16 女は毎日その言葉をもって彼に迫り促したので、彼の魂は死ぬばかりに苦しんだ。
It happened, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was troubled to death.
17 彼はついにその心をことごとく打ち明けて女に言った、「わたしの頭にはかみそりを当てたことがありません。わたしは生れた時から神にささげられたナジルびとだからです。もし髪をそり落されたなら、わたしの力は去って弱くなり、ほかの人のようになるでしょう」。
He told her all his heart, and said to her, "No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I will become weak, and be like any other man."
18 デリラはサムソンがその心をことごとく打ち明けたのを見、人をつかわしてペリシテびとの君たちを呼んで言った、「サムソンはその心をことごとくわたしに打ち明けましたから、今度こそ上っておいでなさい」。そこでペリシテびとの君たちは、銀を携えて女のもとに上ってきた。
When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines went up to her, and brought the money in their hands.
19 女は自分のひざの上にサムソンを眠らせ、人を呼んで髪の毛、七ふさをそり落させ、彼を苦しめ始めたが、その力は彼を去っていた。
She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man, and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and he began to weaken, and his strength went from him.
20 そして女が「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」と言ったので、彼は目をさまして言った、「わたしはいつものように出て行って、からだをゆすろう」。彼は主が自分を去られたことを知らなかった。
She said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." He awoke out of his sleep, and said, "I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free." But he didn't know that the LORD had departed from him.
21 そこでペリシテびとは彼を捕えて、両眼をえぐり、ガザに引いて行って、青銅の足かせをかけて彼をつないだ。こうしてサムソンは獄屋の中で、うすをひいていたが、
The Philistines seized him, and gouged out his eyes. And they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with bronze shackles, and he ground at the mill in the prison.
22 その髪の毛はそり落された後、ふたたび伸び始めた。
However the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaved.
23 さてペリシテびとの君たちは、彼らの神ダゴンに大いなる犠牲をささげて祝をしようと、共に集まって言った、「われわれの神は、敵サムソンをわれわれの手にわたされた」。
The lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon, and to celebrate; for they said, "Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand."
24 民はサムソンを見て、自分たちの神をほめたたえて言った、「われわれの神は、われわれの国を荒し、われわれを多く殺した敵をわれわれの手にわたされた」。
When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy and the destroyer of our country, who has slain many of us, into our hand."
25 彼らはまた心に喜んで言った、「サムソンを呼んで、われわれのために戯れ事をさせよう」。彼らは獄屋からサムソンを呼び出して、彼らの前に戯れ事をさせた。彼らがサムソンを柱のあいだに立たせると、
And it happened, when their hearts were merry, that they said, "Call for Samson, that he may entertain us." So they called for Samson out of the prison; and he performed before them. And they were striking him. And they set him between the pillars;
26 サムソンは自分の手をひいている若者に言った、「わたしの手を放して、この家をささえている柱をさぐらせ、それに寄りかからせてください」。
and Samson said to the boy who held him by the hand, "Allow me to feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean on them." And the boy did so.
27 その家には男女が満ち、ペリシテびとの君たちも皆そこにいた。また屋根の上には三千人ばかりの男女がいて、サムソンの戯れ事をするのを見ていた。
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there. And there were on the roof about three thousand men and women watching while Samson performed.
28 サムソンは主に呼ばわって言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、どうぞ、わたしを覚えてください。ああ、神よ、どうぞもう一度、わたしを強くして、わたしの二つの目の一つのためにでもペリシテびとにあだを報いさせてください」。
Samson called to the LORD, and said, "Lord GOD, please remember me, and please strengthen me only this once, God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes."
29 そしてサムソンは、その家をささえている二つの中柱の一つを右の手に、一つを左の手にかかえて、身をそれに寄せ、
Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and leaned on them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left.
30 「わたしはペリシテびとと共に死のう」と言って、力をこめて身をかがめると、家はその中にいた君たちと、すべての民の上に倒れた。こうしてサムソンが死ぬときに殺したものは、生きているときに殺したものよりも多かった。
Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines." He bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than those who he killed in his life.
31 やがて彼の身内の人たちおよび父の家族の者がみな下ってきて、彼を引き取り、携え上って、ゾラとエシタオルの間にある父マノアの墓に葬った。サムソンがイスラエルをさばいたのは二十年であった。
Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burial site of Manoah his father. He judged Israel twenty years.
