ヨシュア記 24
1 ヨシュアは、イスラエルのすべての部族をシケムに集め、イスラエルの長老、かしら、さばきびと、つかさたちを召し寄せて、共に神の前に進み出た。
And Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel to Shechem; and he called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and they presented themselves before God.
2 そしてヨシュアはすべての民に言った、「イスラエルの神、主は、こう仰せられる、『あなたがたの先祖たち、すなわちアブラハムの父、ナホルの父テラは、昔、ユフラテ川の向こうに住み、みな、ほかの神々に仕えていたが、
And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, On the other side of the river did your fathers dwell in old time, even Terach, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor; and they served other gods.
3 わたしは、あなたがたの先祖アブラハムを、川の向こうから連れ出して、カナンの全地を導き通り、その子孫を増した。わたしは彼にイサクを与え、
And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river, and I led him throughout all the land of Canaan; and I multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
4 イサクにヤコブとエサウを与え、エサウにはセイルの山地を与えて、所有とさせたが、ヤコブとその子供たちはエジプトに下った。
And I gave unto Isaac, Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
5 わたしはモーセとアロンをつかわし、またエジプトのうちに不思議をおこなって、これに災を下し、その後あなたがたを導き出した。
And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt in the manner as I have done among them; and after that I brought you out.
6 わたしはあなたがたの父たちを、エジプトから導き出し、あなたがたが海にきたとき、エジプトびとは、戦車と騎兵とをもって、あなたがたの父たちを紅海に追ってきた。
And I brought your fathers out of Egypt; and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red Sea.
7 そのとき、あなたがたの父たちが主に呼ばわったので、主は暗やみをあなたがたとエジプトびととの間に置き、海を彼らの上に傾けて彼らをおおわれた。あなたがたは、わたしがエジプトでしたことを目で見た。そして長い間、荒野に住んでいた。
And they cried unto the Lord, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he brought the sea over them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I had done on Egypt; and ye dwelt in the wilderness many days.
8 わたしはまたヨルダンの向こう側に住んでいたアモリびとの地に、あなたがたを導き入れた。彼らはあなたがたと戦ったので、わたしは彼らをあなたがたの手に渡して、彼らの地を獲させ、彼らをあなたがたの前から滅ぼし去った。
And I brought you into the land of the Emorites, that dwelt on the other side of the Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, and ye took possession of their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
9 ついで、モアブの王チッポルの子バラクが立って、イスラエルに敵し、人をつかわし、ベオルの子バラムを招き、あなたがたをのろわせようとしたが、
Then Balak the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel; and he sent and called Bil'am the son of Beor to curse you;
10 わたしがバラムに聞こうとしなかったので、彼は、かえって、あなたがたを祝福した。こうしてわたしは彼の手からあなたがたを救い出した。
And I would not hearken unto Bil'am; but he had to bless you instead: and I delivered you out of his hand.
11 そしてあなたがたは、ヨルダンを渡って、エリコにきたが、エリコの人々はあなたがたと戦い、アモリびと、ペリジびと、カナンびと、ヘテびと、ギルガシびと、ヒビびと、およびエブスびとも、あなたがたと戦ったが、わたしは彼らをあなたがたの手に渡した。
And ye passed over the Jordan, and came unto Jericho; and then fought the men of Jericho against you, the Emorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I gave them up into your hand.
12 わたしは、あなたがたの前に、くまばちを送って、あのアモリびとのふたりの王を、あなたがたの前から追い払った。これはあなたがたのつるぎ、または、あなたがたの弓によってではなかった。
And I sent before you the hornet which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Emorites: not with thy sword, and not with thy bow.
13 そしてわたしは、あなたがたが自分で労しなかった地を、あなたがたに与え、あなたがたが建てなかった町を、あなたがたに与えた。そしてあなたがたはいまその所に住んでいる。あなたがたはまた自分で作らなかったぶどう畑と、オリブ畑の実を食べている』。
And I gave you a land for which ye had not toiled, and cities which ye had not built, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
14 それゆえ、いま、あなたがたは主を恐れ、まことと、まごころと、真実とをもって、主に仕え、あなたがたの先祖が、川の向こう、およびエジプトで仕えた他の神々を除き去って、主に仕えなさい。
Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
15 もしあなたがたが主に仕えることを、こころよしとしないのならば、あなたがたの先祖が、川の向こうで仕えた神々でも、または、いまあなたがたの住む地のアモリびとの神々でも、あなたがたの仕える者を、きょう、選びなさい。ただし、わたしとわたしの家とは共に主に仕えます」。
And if it be displeasing in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom ye will serve: whether the gods which your fathers that were on the other side of the river served, or the gods of the Emorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
16 その時、民は答えて言った、「主を捨てて、他の神々に仕えるなど、われわれは決していたしません。
And the people answered and said, Far be it from us to forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;
17 われわれの神、主がみずからわれわれと、われわれの先祖とを、エジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き上り、またわれわれの目の前で、あの大いなるしるしを行い、われわれの行くすべての道で守り、われわれが通ったすべての国民の中でわれわれを守られたからです。
For the Lord our God it is that hath brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and who hath done those great signs before our eyes, and preserved us upon all the way whereon we have gone, and among all the people through the midst of whom we have passed:
18 主はまた、この地に住んでいたアモリびとなど、すべての民を、われわれの前から追い払われました。それゆえ、われわれも主に仕えます。主はわれわれの神だからです」。
And the Lord hath driven out all the nations, and the Emorites who dwelt in the land, from before us; therefore also will we serve the Lord; for he is our God.
19 しかし、ヨシュアは民に言った、「あなたがたは主に仕えることはできないであろう。主は聖なる神であり、ねたむ神であって、あなたがたの罪、あなたがたのとがを、ゆるされないからである。
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye will not be able to serve the Lord; for he is a holy God; he is a watchful God; he will not have any indulgence for your transgressions and for your sins;
20 もしあなたがたが主を捨てて、異なる神々に仕えるならば、あなたがたにさいわいを下されたのちにも、ひるがえってあなたがたに災をくだし、あなたがたを滅ぼしつくされるであろう」。
If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then will he again do ye evil, and consume ye, after that he hath done you good.
21 民はヨシュアに言った、「いいえ、われわれは主に仕えます」。
And the people said unto Joshua, No; nevertheless the Lord will we serve.
22 そこでヨシュアは民に言った、「あなたがたは主を選んで、主に仕えると言った。あなたがたみずからその証人である」。彼らは言った、「われわれは証人です」。
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye yourselves have chosen for you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
23 ヨシュアはまた言った、「それならば、あなたがたのうちにある、異なる神々を除き去り、イスラエルの神、主に、心を傾けなさい」。
And now put away the strange gods which are in the midst of you, and incline your heart unto the Lord the God of Israel.
24 民はヨシュアに言った、「われわれの神、主に、われわれは仕え、その声に聞きしたがいます」。
And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
25 こうしてヨシュアは、その日、民と契約をむすび、シケムにおいて、定めと、おきてを、彼らのために設けた。
And Joshua made a covenant with the people on that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26 ヨシュアはこれらの言葉を神の律法の書にしるし、大きな石を取って、その所で、主の聖所にあるかしの木の下にそれを立て、
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak, that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.
27 ヨシュアは、すべての民に言った、「見よ、この石はわれわれのあかしとなるであろう。主がわれわれに語られたすべての言葉を、聞いたからである。それゆえ、あなたがたが自分の神を捨てることのないために、この石が、あなたがたのあかしとなるであろう」。
And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be among us as a witness; for it hath heard all the words of the Lord which he spoke unto us: it shall be therefore as a witness against you, that ye may not deny your God.
28 こうしてヨシュアは民を、おのおのその嗣業の地に帰し去らせた。
And Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
29 これらの事の後、主のしもべ、ヌンの子ヨシュアは百十歳で死んだ、
And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, one hundred and ten years old.
30 人々は彼をその嗣業の地のうちのテムナテ・セラに葬った。テムナテ・セラは、エフライムの山地で、ガアシ山の北にある。
And they buried him on the border of his inheritance at Timnath-serach, which is on the mountain of Ephraim, on the north side of mount Ga'ash.
31 イスラエルはヨシュアの世にある日の間、また主がイスラエルのために行われたもろもろのことを知っていて、ヨシュアのあとに生き残った長老たちが世にある日の間、つねに主に仕えた。
And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who lived many days after Joshua, and who had known all the deeds of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.
32 イスラエルの人々が、エジプトから携え上ったヨセフの骨は、むかしヤコブが銀百枚で、シケムの父ハモルの子らから買い取ったシケムのうちの地所の一部に葬られた。これはヨセフの子孫の嗣業となった。
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in a parcel of the field which Jacob had bought of the sons of Chamor the father of Shechem for one hundred kessitah: and it remained the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
33 アロンの子エレアザルも死んだ。人々は彼を、その子ピネハスに与えられた町で、エフライムの山地にあるギベアに葬った。
And Elazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him on the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the mountain of Ephraim.
