ヨハネの福音書 6
1 そののち、イエスはガリラヤの海、すなわち、テベリヤ湖の向こう岸へ渡られた。
After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is [the sea] of Tiberias.
2 すると、大ぜいの群衆がイエスについてきた。病人たちになさっていたしるしを見たからである。
And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he performed on them that were diseased.
3 イエスは山に登って、弟子たちと一緒にそこで座につかれた。
And Jesus went upon a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
4 時に、ユダヤ人の祭である過越が間近になっていた。
And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
5 イエスは目をあげ、大ぜいの群衆が自分の方に集まって来るのを見て、ピリポに言われた、「どこからパンを買ってきて、この人々に食べさせようか」。
When Jesus then lifted up [his] eyes, and saw a great company come to him, he saith to Philip, Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat?
6 これはピリポをためそうとして言われたのであって、ご自分ではしようとすることを、よくご承知であった。
(And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.)
7 すると、ピリポはイエスに答えた、「二百デナリのパンがあっても、めいめいが少しずついただくにも足りますまい」。
Philip answered him, Two hundred penny-worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them make take a little:
8 弟子のひとり、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレがイエスに言った、
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith to him,
9 「ここに、大麦のパン五つと、さかな二ひきとを持っている子供がいます。しかし、こんなに大ぜいの人では、それが何になりましょう」。
There is a lad here, who hath five barley-loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
10 イエスは「人々をすわらせなさい」と言われた。その場所には草が多かった。そこにすわった男の数は五千人ほどであった。
And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. (Now there was much grass in the place.) So the men sat down in number about five thousand.
11 そこで、イエスはパンを取り、感謝してから、すわっている人々に分け与え、また、さかなをも同様にして、彼らの望むだけ分け与えられた。
And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes, as much as they would.
12 人々がじゅうぶんに食べたのち、イエスは弟子たちに言われた、「少しでもむだにならないように、パンくずのあまりを集めなさい」。
When they were satisfied, he said to his disciples, Gather the fragments that remain, that nothing may be lost.
13 そこで彼らが集めると、五つの大麦のパンを食べて残ったパンくずは、十二のかごにいっぱいになった。
Therefore they gathered [them], and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley-loaves, which remained over and above to them that had eaten.
14 人々はイエスのなさったこのしるしを見て、「ほんとうに、この人こそ世にきたるべき預言者である」と言った。
Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus performed, said, This is truly that prophet that should come into the world.
15 イエスは人々がきて、自分をとらえて王にしようとしていると知って、ただひとり、また山に退かれた。
When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again to a mountain himself alone.
16 夕方になったとき、弟子たちは海べに下り、
And when evening had [now] come, his disciples went down to the sea,
17 舟に乗って海を渡り、向こう岸のカペナウムに行きかけた。すでに暗くなっていたのに、イエスはまだ彼らのところにおいでにならなかった。
And entered into a boat, and went over the sea towards Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
18 その上、強い風が吹いてきて、海は荒れ出した。
And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 四、五十丁こぎ出したとき、イエスが海の上を歩いて舟に近づいてこられるのを見て、彼らは恐れた。
So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh to the boat: and they were afraid.
20 すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしだ、恐れることはない」。
But he saith to them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 そこで、彼らは喜んでイエスを舟に迎えようとした。すると舟は、すぐ、彼らが行こうとしていた地に着いた。
Then they willingly received him into the boat: and immediately the boat was at the land whither they were going.
22 その翌日、海の向こう岸に立っていた群衆は、そこに小舟が一そうしかなく、またイエスは弟子たちと一緒に小舟にお乗りにならず、ただ弟子たちだけが船出したのを見た。
The day following, when the people who stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save that one into which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone;
23 しかし、数そうの小舟がテベリヤからきて、主が感謝されたのちパンを人々に食べさせた場所に近づいた。
(Yet there came other boats from Tiberias nigh to the place where they ate bread, after the Lord had given thanks: )
24 群衆は、イエスも弟子たちもそこにいないと知って、それらの小舟に乗り、イエスをたずねてカペナウムに行った。
When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 そして、海の向こう岸でイエスに出会ったので言った、「先生、いつ、ここにおいでになったのですか」。
And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたがわたしを尋ねてきているのは、しるしを見たためではなく、パンを食べて満腹したからである。
Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied.
27 朽ちる食物のためではなく、永遠の命に至る朽ちない食物のために働くがよい。これは人の子があなたがたに与えるものである。父なる神は、人の子にそれをゆだねられたのである」。 (aiōnios g166)
Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed. (aiōnios g166)
28 そこで、彼らはイエスに言った、「神のわざを行うために、わたしたちは何をしたらよいでしょうか」。
Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?
29 イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「神がつかわされた者を信じることが、神のわざである」。
Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 彼らはイエスに言った、「わたしたちが見てあなたを信じるために、どんなしるしを行って下さいますか。どんなことをして下さいますか。
They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 わたしたちの先祖は荒野でマナを食べました。それは『天よりのパンを彼らに与えて食べさせた』と書いてあるとおりです」。
Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。天からのパンをあなたがたに与えたのは、モーセではない。天からのまことのパンをあなたがたに与えるのは、わたしの父なのである。
Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 神のパンは、天から下ってきて、この世に命を与えるものである」。
For the bread of God is he who cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world.
34 彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、そのパンをいつもわたしたちに下さい」。
Then said they to him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが命のパンである。わたしに来る者は決して飢えることがなく、わたしを信じる者は決してかわくことがない。
And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst.
36 しかし、あなたがたに言ったが、あなたがたはわたしを見たのに信じようとはしない。
But I said to you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 父がわたしに与えて下さる者は皆、わたしに来るであろう。そして、わたしに来る者を決して拒みはしない。
All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject.
38 わたしが天から下ってきたのは、自分のこころのままを行うためではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころを行うためである。
For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころは、わたしに与えて下さった者を、わたしがひとりも失わずに、終りの日によみがえらせることである。
And this is the Father's will who hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (aiōnios g166)
41 ユダヤ人らは、イエスが「わたしは天から下ってきたパンである」と言われたので、イエスについてつぶやき始めた。
The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 そして言った、「これはヨセフの子イエスではないか。わたしたちはその父母を知っているではないか。わたしは天から下ってきたと、どうして今いうのか」。
And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「互につぶやいてはいけない。
Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 わたしをつかわされた父が引きよせて下さらなければ、だれもわたしに来ることはできない。わたしは、その人々を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう。
No man can come to me, except the Father who hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 預言者の書に、『彼らはみな神に教えられるであろう』と書いてある。父から聞いて学んだ者は、みなわたしに来るのである。
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught from God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned from the Father, cometh to me.
46 神から出た者のほかに、だれかが父を見たのではない。その者だけが父を見たのである。
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he who is from God, he hath seen the Father.
Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
48 わたしは命のパンである。
I am that bread of life.
49 あなたがたの先祖は荒野でマナを食べたが、死んでしまった。
Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 しかし、天から下ってきたパンを食べる人は、決して死ぬことはない。
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man shall eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (aiōn g165)
52 そこで、ユダヤ人らが互に論じて言った、「この人はどうして、自分の肉をわたしたちに与えて食べさせることができようか」。
The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?
53 イエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。人の子の肉を食べず、また、その血を飲まなければ、あなたがたの内に命はない。
Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. (aiōnios g166)
55 わたしの肉はまことの食物、わたしの血はまことの飲み物である。
For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 わたしの肉を食べ、わたしの血を飲む者はわたしにおり、わたしもまたその人におる。
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 生ける父がわたしをつかわされ、また、わたしが父によって生きているように、わたしを食べる者もわたしによって生きるであろう。
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. (aiōn g165)
59 これらのことは、イエスがカペナウムの会堂で教えておられたときに言われたものである。
These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 弟子たちのうちの多くの者は、これを聞いて言った、「これは、ひどい言葉だ。だれがそんなことを聞いておられようか」。
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard [this], said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?
61 しかしイエスは、弟子たちがそのことでつぶやいているのを見破って、彼らに言われた、「このことがあなたがたのつまずきになるのか。
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said to them, Doth this offend you?
62 それでは、もし人の子が前にいた所に上るのを見たら、どうなるのか。
[What] if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 人を生かすものは霊であって、肉はなんの役にも立たない。わたしがあなたがたに話した言葉は霊であり、また命である。
It is the spirit that reviveth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak to you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.
64 しかし、あなたがたの中には信じない者がいる」。イエスは、初めから、だれが信じないか、また、だれが彼を裏切るかを知っておられたのである。
But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who he was that would betray him.
65 そしてイエスは言われた、「それだから、父が与えて下さった者でなければ、わたしに来ることはできないと、言ったのである」。
And he said, Therefore I said to you, that no man can come to me, except it were given to him by my Father.
66 それ以来、多くの弟子たちは去っていって、もはやイエスと行動を共にしなかった。
From that [time] many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 そこでイエスは十二弟子に言われた、「あなたがたも去ろうとするのか」。
Then said Jesus to the twelve, Will ye also go away?
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
69 わたしたちは、あなたが神の聖者であることを信じ、また知っています」。
And we believe, and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 イエスは彼らに答えられた、「あなたがた十二人を選んだのは、わたしではなかったか。それだのに、あなたがたのうちのひとりは悪魔である」。
Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 これは、イスカリオテのシモンの子ユダをさして言われたのである。このユダは、十二弟子のひとりでありながら、イエスを裏切ろうとしていた。
He spoke of Judas Iscariot [the son] of Simon: for it was he that was to betray him, being one of the twelve.
