ヨハネの福音書 16
1 わたしがこれらのことを語ったのは、あなたがたがつまずくことのないためである。
“I have said these things to you so that you wouldn’t be caused to stumble.
2 人々はあなたがたを会堂から追い出すであろう。更にあなたがたを殺す者がみな、それによって自分たちは神に仕えているのだと思う時が来るであろう。
They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.
3 彼らがそのようなことをするのは、父をもわたしをも知らないからである。
They will do these things because they have not known the Father nor me.
4 わたしがあなたがたにこれらのことを言ったのは、彼らの時がきた場合、わたしが彼らについて言ったことを、思い起させるためである。これらのことを初めから言わなかったのは、わたしがあなたがたと一緒にいたからである。
But I have told you these things so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
5 けれども今わたしは、わたしをつかわされたかたのところに行こうとしている。しかし、あなたがたのうち、だれも『どこへ行くのか』と尋ねる者はない。
But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
6 かえって、わたしがこれらのことを言ったために、あなたがたの心は憂いで満たされている。
But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 しかし、わたしはほんとうのことをあなたがたに言うが、わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたの益になるのだ。わたしが去って行かなければ、あなたがたのところに助け主はこないであろう。もし行けば、それをあなたがたにつかわそう。
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
8 それがきたら、罪と義とさばきとについて、世の人の目を開くであろう。
When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;
9 罪についてと言ったのは、彼らがわたしを信じないからである。
about sin, because they don’t believe in me;
10 義についてと言ったのは、わたしが父のみもとに行き、あなたがたは、もはやわたしを見なくなるからである。
about righteousness, because I am going to my Father, and you won’t see me any more;
11 さばきについてと言ったのは、この世の君がさばかれるからである。
about judgment, because the prince of this world has been judged.
12 わたしには、あなたがたに言うべきことがまだ多くあるが、あなたがたは今はそれに堪えられない。
“I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
13 けれども真理の御霊が来る時には、あなたがたをあらゆる真理に導いてくれるであろう。それは自分から語るのではなく、その聞くところを語り、きたるべき事をあなたがたに知らせるであろう。
However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
14 御霊はわたしに栄光を得させるであろう。わたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるからである。
He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you.
15 父がお持ちになっているものはみな、わたしのものである。御霊はわたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるのだと、わたしが言ったのは、そのためである。
All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.
16 しばらくすれば、あなたがたはもうわたしを見なくなる。しかし、またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう」。
“A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.”
17 そこで、弟子たちのうちのある者は互に言い合った、「『しばらくすれば、わたしを見なくなる。またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう』と言われ、『わたしの父のところに行く』と言われたのは、いったい、どういうことなのであろう」。
Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;’ and, ‘Because I go to the Father’?”
18 彼らはまた言った、「『しばらくすれば』と言われるのは、どういうことか。わたしたちには、その言葉の意味がわからない」。
They said therefore, “What is this that he says, ‘A little while’? We don’t know what he is saying.”
19 イエスは、彼らが尋ねたがっていることに気がついて、彼らに言われた、「しばらくすればわたしを見なくなる、またしばらくすればわたしに会えるであろうと、わたしが言ったことで、互に論じ合っているのか。
Therefore Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask him, and he said to them, “Do you inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’?
20 よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたは泣き悲しむが、この世は喜ぶであろう。あなたがたは憂えているが、その憂いは喜びに変るであろう。
Most certainly I tell you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
21 女が子を産む場合には、その時がきたというので、不安を感じる。しかし、子を産んでしまえば、もはやその苦しみをおぼえてはいない。ひとりの人がこの世に生れた、という喜びがあるためである。
A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.
22 このように、あなたがたにも今は不安がある。しかし、わたしは再びあなたがたと会うであろう。そして、あなたがたの心は喜びに満たされるであろう。その喜びをあなたがたから取り去る者はいない。
Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23 その日には、あなたがたがわたしに問うことは、何もないであろう。よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたが父に求めるものはなんでも、わたしの名によって下さるであろう。
“In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
24 今までは、あなたがたはわたしの名によって求めたことはなかった。求めなさい、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。そして、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるであろう。
Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.
25 わたしはこれらのことを比喩で話したが、もはや比喩では話さないで、あからさまに、父のことをあなたがたに話してきかせる時が来るであろう。
“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26 その日には、あなたがたは、わたしの名によって求めるであろう。わたしは、あなたがたのために父に願ってあげようとは言うまい。
In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you that I will pray to the Father for you,
27 父ご自身があなたがたを愛しておいでになるからである。それは、あなたがたがわたしを愛したため、また、わたしが神のみもとからきたことを信じたためである。
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
28 わたしは父から出てこの世にきたが、またこの世を去って、父のみもとに行くのである」。
I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
29 弟子たちは言った、「今はあからさまにお話しになって、少しも比喩ではお話しになりません。
His disciples said to him, “Behold, now you are speaking plainly, and using no figures of speech.
30 あなたはすべてのことをご存じであり、だれもあなたにお尋ねする必要のないことが、今わかりました。このことによって、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられたかたであると信じます」。
Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.”
31 イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。
Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
32 見よ、あなたがたは散らされて、それぞれ自分の家に帰り、わたしをひとりだけ残す時が来るであろう。いや、すでにきている。しかし、わたしはひとりでいるのではない。父がわたしと一緒におられるのである。
Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”
