ヨハネの福音書 11
1 さて、ひとりの病人がいた。ラザロといい、マリヤとその姉妹マルタの村ベタニヤの人であった。
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus, of Bethany, the village of Mary and Martha her sister.
2 このマリヤは主に香油をぬり、自分の髪の毛で、主の足をふいた女であって、病気であったのは、彼女の兄弟ラザロであった。
It was the Mary that anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
3 姉妹たちは人をイエスのもとにつかわして、「主よ、ただ今、あなたが愛しておられる者が病気をしています」と言わせた。
Therefore his sisters sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
4 イエスはそれを聞いて言われた、「この病気は死ぬほどのものではない。それは神の栄光のため、また、神の子がそれによって栄光を受けるためのものである」。
But when Jesus heard it, he said: This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that by it the Son of God may be glorified.
5 イエスは、マルタとその姉妹とラザロとを愛しておられた。
Now, Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 ラザロが病気であることを聞いてから、なおふつか、そのおられた所に滞在された。
When, therefore, he heard that he was sick, he still remained two days in the place where he was.
7 それから弟子たちに、「もう一度ユダヤに行こう」と言われた。
Then after this, he said to his disciples: Let us go into Judea again.
8 弟子たちは言った、「先生、ユダヤ人らが、さきほどもあなたを石で殺そうとしていましたのに、またそこに行かれるのですか」。
His disciples said to him: Rabbi, the Jews just now sought to stone thee, and art thou going thither again?
9 イエスは答えられた、「一日には十二時間あるではないか。昼間あるけば、人はつまずくことはない。この世の光を見ているからである。
Jesus answered: Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walks during the day, he does not stumble, for he sees the light of this world.
10 しかし、夜あるけば、つまずく。その人のうちに、光がないからである」。
But if any one walks in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
11 そう言われたが、それからまた、彼らに言われた、「わたしたちの友ラザロが眠っている。わたしは彼を起しに行く」。
Thus spoke he; and after this he said to them: Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.
12 すると弟子たちは言った、「主よ、眠っているのでしたら、助かるでしょう」。
Then his disciples said: Lord, if he sleeps, he will be saved.
13 イエスはラザロが死んだことを言われたのであるが、弟子たちは、眠って休んでいることをさして言われたのだと思った。
Jesus spoke of his death; but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
14 するとイエスは、あからさまに彼らに言われた、「ラザロは死んだのだ。
Therefore, Jesus then said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead.
15 そして、わたしがそこにいあわせなかったことを、あなたがたのために喜ぶ。それは、あなたがたが信じるようになるためである。では、彼のところに行こう」。
And I rejoice, on your account, that I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him.
16 するとデドモと呼ばれているトマスが、仲間の弟子たちに言った、「わたしたちも行って、先生と一緒に死のうではないか」。
Then Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow-disciples: Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 さて、イエスが行ってごらんになると、ラザロはすでに四日間も墓の中に置かれていた。
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had already been four days in the tomb.
18 ベタニヤはエルサレムに近く、二十五丁ばかり離れたところにあった。
Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off.
19 大ぜいのユダヤ人が、その兄弟のことで、マルタとマリヤとを慰めようとしてきていた。
And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 マルタはイエスがこられたと聞いて、出迎えに行ったが、マリヤは家ですわっていた。
Then Martha, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went out to meet him; but Mary sat still in the house.
21 マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう。
Then Martha said to Jesus: Lord, if thou hadst been here my brother would not have died.
22 しかし、あなたがどんなことをお願いになっても、神はかなえて下さることを、わたしは今でも存じています」。
But even now, I know that whatever thou wilt ask of God, God will give thee.
23 イエスはマルタに言われた、「あなたの兄弟はよみがえるであろう」。
Jesus said to her: Your brother shall rise again.
24 マルタは言った、「終りの日のよみがえりの時よみがえることは、存じています」。
Martha said to him: I know that he will rise, in the resurrection at the last day.
25 イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしはよみがえりであり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、たとい死んでも生きる。
Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believes on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live;
and he that lives and believes on me, shall never die. Do you believe this? (aiōn g165)
27 マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、信じます。あなたがこの世にきたるべきキリスト、神の御子であると信じております」。
She said to him: Yes, Lord; I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.
28 マルタはこう言ってから、帰って姉妹のマリヤを呼び、「先生がおいでになって、あなたを呼んでおられます」と小声で言った。
And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying: The Teacher has come, and calls for you.
29 これを聞いたマリヤはすぐ立ち上がって、イエスのもとに行った。
When she heard it, she rose quickly and came to him.
30 イエスはまだ村に、はいってこられず、マルタがお迎えしたその場所におられた。
Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.
31 マリヤと一緒に家にいて彼女を慰めていたユダヤ人たちは、マリヤが急いで立ち上がって出て行くのを見て、彼女は墓に泣きに行くのであろうと思い、そのあとからついて行った。
Then the Jews that were with her in the house, and were comforting her, seeing Mary rise and go out quickly, followed her, saying: She is going to the tomb to weep there.
32 マリヤは、イエスのおられる所に行ってお目にかかり、その足もとにひれ伏して言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう」。
Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him: Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.
33 イエスは、彼女が泣き、また、彼女と一緒にきたユダヤ人たちも泣いているのをごらんになり、激しく感動し、また心を騒がせ、そして言われた、
Then, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews that came with her weeping also, he was greatly moved in spirit, and troubled;
34 「彼をどこに置いたのか」。彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、きて、ごらん下さい」。
and he said: Where have you laid him? They said to him: Lord, come and see.
35 イエスは涙を流された。
Jesus wept.
36 するとユダヤ人たちは言った、「ああ、なんと彼を愛しておられたことか」。
Then said the Jews: See how he loved him!
37 しかし、彼らのある人たちは言った、「あの盲人の目をあけたこの人でも、ラザロを死なせないようには、できなかったのか」。
And some of them said: Could not he, who opened the eyes of the blind man, have caused that even this man should not have died?
38 イエスはまた激しく感動して、墓にはいられた。それは洞穴であって、そこに石がはめてあった。
Then Jesus, again greatly moved within himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was laid against it.
39 イエスは言われた、「石を取りのけなさい」。死んだラザロの姉妹マルタが言った、「主よ、もう臭くなっております。四日もたっていますから」。
Jesus said: Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said to him: Lord, the body is offensive; for he has been dead four days.
40 イエスは彼女に言われた、「もし信じるなら神の栄光を見るであろうと、あなたに言ったではないか」。
Jesus said to her: Did I not tell you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?
41 人々は石を取りのけた。すると、イエスは目を天にむけて言われた、「父よ、わたしの願いをお聞き下さったことを感謝します。
Then they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said: Father, I thank thee, that thou hast heard me.
42 あなたがいつでもわたしの願いを聞きいれて下さることを、よく知っています。しかし、こう申しますのは、そばに立っている人々に、あなたがわたしをつかわされたことを、信じさせるためであります」。
I know, in deed, that thou dost always hear me. But for the sake of the multitude who stand around me, I have said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 こう言いながら、大声で「ラザロよ、出てきなさい」と呼ばわれた。
And when he had said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 すると、死人は手足を布でまかれ、顔も顔おおいで包まれたまま、出てきた。イエスは人々に言われた、「彼をほどいてやって、帰らせなさい」。
And he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound around with a handkerchief. Jesus said to them: Loose him, and let him go.
45 マリヤのところにきて、イエスのなさったことを見た多くのユダヤ人たちは、イエスを信じた。
Then many of the Jews that had come to Mary, and who saw what he had done, believed on him.
46 しかし、そのうちの数人がパリサイ人たちのところに行って、イエスのされたことを告げた。
But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
47 そこで、祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、議会を召集して言った、「この人が多くのしるしを行っているのに、お互は何をしているのだ。
Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called together the Sanhedrin, and said: What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
48 もしこのままにしておけば、みんなが彼を信じるようになるだろう。そのうえ、ローマ人がやってきて、わたしたちの土地も人民も奪ってしまうであろう」。
If we thus let him alone, all will believe on him, and the Romans will come and take away our place and our nation.
49 彼らのうちのひとりで、その年の大祭司であったカヤパが、彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、何もわかっていないし、
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was chief priest that year, said to them: You know nothing,
50 ひとりの人が人民に代って死んで、全国民が滅びないようになるのがわたしたちにとって得だということを、考えてもいない」。
nor do you consider that it is profitable for us, that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.
51 このことは彼が自分から言ったのではない。彼はこの年の大祭司であったので、預言をして、イエスが国民のために、
But this he did not speak of himself; but being chief priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation;
52 ただ国民のためだけではなく、また散在している神の子らを一つに集めるために、死ぬことになっていると、言ったのである。
and not for the nation only, but that he should gather into one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 彼らはこの日からイエスを殺そうと相談した。
From that day, therefore, they consulted together to put him to death.
54 そのためイエスは、もはや公然とユダヤ人の間を歩かないで、そこを出て、荒野に近い地方のエフライムという町に行かれ、そこに弟子たちと一緒に滞在しておられた。
Therefore, Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but withdrew thence to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples.
55 さて、ユダヤ人の過越の祭が近づいたので、多くの人々は身をきよめるために、祭の前に、地方からエルサレムへ上った。
And the passover of the Jews was near; and many went up from the country to Jerusalem, before the passover, to purify themselves.
56 人々はイエスを捜し求め、宮の庭に立って互に言った、「あなたがたはどう思うか。イエスはこの祭にこないのだろうか」。
Then they sought for Jesus, and said one to another, as they stood in the temple: What think you, that he will not come to the feast?
57 祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、イエスを捕えようとして、そのいどころを知っている者があれば申し出よ、という指令を出していた。
Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders, that, if any one knew where he was, he should inform them, that they might take him.
