1 これがためにわが心もまたわななき、その所からとび離れる。
At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of its place.
2 聞け、神の声のとどろきを、またその口から出るささやきを。
Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.
3 彼はこれを天が下に放ち、その光を地のすみずみまで至らせられる。
He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 その後、声とどろき、彼はそのいかめしい声をもって鳴り渡られる。その声の聞える時、彼はいなずまを引きとめられない。
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not restrain them when his voice is heard.
5 神はその驚くべき声をもって鳴り渡り、われわれの悟りえない大いなる事を行われる。
God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things he doeth, which we cannot comprehend.
6 彼は雪に向かって『地に降れ』と命じ、夕立ちおよび雨に向かって『強く降れ』と命じられる。
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
7 彼はすべての人の手を封じられる。これはすべての人にみわざを知らせるためである。
He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
8 その時、獣は穴に入り、そのほらにとどまる。
Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.
9 つむじ風はそのへやから、寒さは北風から来る。
From the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold from the north.
10 神のいぶきによって氷が張り、広々とした水は凍る。
By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is narrowed.
11 彼は濃い雲に水気を負わせ、雲はそのいなずまを散らす。
Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
12 これは彼の導きによってめぐる。彼の命じるところをことごとく世界のおもてに行うためである。
And it is turned around by his counsels: that they may do whatever he commandeth them upon the face of the world on the earth.
13 神がこれらをこさせるのは、懲しめのため、あるいはその地のため、あるいはいつくしみのためである。
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
14 ヨブよ、これを聞け、立って神のくすしきみわざを考えよ。
Hearken to this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
15 あなたは知っているか、神がいかにこれらに命じて、その雲の光を輝かされるかを。
Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
16 あなたは知っているか、雲のつりあいと、知識の全き者のくすしきみわざを。
Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 南風によって地が穏やかになる時、あなたの着物が熱くなることを。
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?
18 あなたは鋳た鏡のように堅い大空を、彼のように張ることができるか。
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
19 われわれが彼に言うべき事をわれわれに教えよ、われわれは暗くて、言葉をつらねることはできない。
Teach us what we shall say to him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.
20 わたしは語ることがあると彼に告げることができようか、人は滅ぼされることを望むであろうか。
Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man shall speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.
21 光が空に輝いているとき、風過ぎて空を清めると、人々はその光を見ることができない。
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
22 北から黄金のような輝きがでてくる。神には恐るべき威光がある。
Fair weather cometh from the north: with God is terrible majesty.
23 全能者はわれわれはこれを見いだすことができない。彼は力と公義とにすぐれ、正義に満ちて、これを曲げることはない。
As for the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in abundance of justice: he will not afflict.
24 それゆえ、人々は彼を恐れる。彼はみずから賢いと思う者を顧みられない」。
Men therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
