エレミヤ書 47

1 パロがまだガザを撃たなかったころ、ペリシテびとの事について預言者エレミヤに臨んだ主の言葉。

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before the time that Pharaoh smote Gazzah.

2 「主はこう言われる、見よ、水は北から起り、あふれ流れて、この地と、そこにあるすべての物、その町と、その中に住む者とにあふれかかる。その時、人々は叫び、この地に住む者はみな嘆く。

Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, waters are coming up out of the north, and they shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land, and what filleth it; the city, and those that dwell therein: and the men shall cry aloud, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.

3 そのたくましい馬のひずめの踏み鳴らす音のため、その戦車の響きのため、その車輪のとどろきのために、父はその手が弱くなって、自分の子をも顧みない。

Because of the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stud-horses, because of the rushing sound of his chariots, the rumbling of his wheels, fathers do not turn round to their children from their feebleness of hands;

4 これは、ペリシテびとを滅ぼし尽し、ツロとシドンに残って助けをなす者をことごとく絶やす日が来るからである。主はカフトルの海岸に残っているペリシテびとを滅ぼされる。

Because of the day that cometh to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remaineth; for the Lord devastateth the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphthor.

5 ガザには髪をそることが始まっている。アシケロンは滅びた。アナクびとの残りの民よ、いつまで自分の身に傷つけるのか。

Baldness is come upon Gazzah; ruined is Ashkelon with the remnant of their valley: how long yet wilt thou cut thyself?

6 主のつるぎよ、おまえはいつになれば静かになるのか。おまえのさやに帰り、休んで静かにしておれ。

Woe! thou sword of the Lord, how long yet wilt thou not be quiet? withdraw thyself into thy scabbard, take thee rest, and be still.

7 主がこれに命を下されたのだ、どうして静かにしておれようか。アシケロンと海岸の地を攻めることを定められたのだ」。

Yet how canst thou be quiet? When the Lord hath given it a charge, against Ashkelon, and against the sea-coast—thither hath he destined it.
