エレミヤ書 4
1 主は言われる、「イスラエルよ、もし、あなたが帰るならば、わたしのもとに帰らなければならない。もし、あなたが憎むべき者をわたしの前から取り除いて、ためらうことなく、
If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return to me: and if thou wilt put away thy abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not be removed.
2 また真実と正義と正直とをもって、『主は生きておられる』と誓うならば、万国の民は彼によって祝福を受け、彼によって誇る」。
And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
3 主はユダの人々とエルサレムに住む人々にこう言われる、「あなたがたの新田を耕せ、いばらの中に種をまくな。
For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
4 ユダの人々とエルサレムに住む人々よ、あなたがたは自ら割礼を行って、主に属するものとなり、自分の心の前の皮を取り去れ。さもないと、あなたがたの悪しき行いのためにわたしの怒りが火のように発して燃え、これを消す者はない」。
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
5 ユダに告げ、エルサレムに示して言え、「国中にラッパを吹き、大声に呼ばわって言え、『集まれ、われわれは堅固な町々へ行こう』と。
Declare ye in Judah, and proclaim in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, confirm, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.
6 シオンの方を示す旗を立てよ。避難せよ、とどまってはならない、わたしが北から災と大いなる破滅をこさせるからだ。
Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
7 ししはその森から出てのぼり、国々を滅ぼす者は進んできた。彼はあなたの国を荒そうとして、すでにその所から出てきた。あなたの町々は滅ぼされて、住む者もなくなる。
The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
8 このために、あなたがたは荒布を身にまとって、悲しみ嘆け。主の激しい怒りが、まだわれわれを離れないからだ」。
For this gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament and wail: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.
9 主は言われる、「その日、王と君たちとはその心を失い、祭司は驚き、預言者は怪しむ」。
And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
10 そこでわたしは言った、「ああ主なる神よ、まことにあなたはこの民とエルサレムとをまったく欺かれました。『あなたがたは安らかになる』と言われましたが、つるぎが命にまでも及びました」。
Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; though the sword reacheth to the soul.
11 その時この民とエルサレムとはこう告げられる、「熱い風が荒野の裸の山からわたしの民の娘のほうに吹いてくる。これはあおぎ分けるためではなく、清めるためでもない。
At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,
12 これよりもなお激しい風がわたしのために吹く。いまわたしは彼らにさばきを告げる」。
Even a full wind from those places shall come to me: now also will I give sentence against them.
13 見よ、彼は雲のように上ってくる。その戦車はつむじ風のよう、その馬はわしの飛ぶよりも速い。ああ、われわれはわざわいだ、われわれは滅ぼされる。
Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! for we are laid waste.
14 エルサレムよ、あなたの心の悪を洗い清めよ、そうするならば救われる。悪しき思いはいつまであなたのうちにとどまるのか。
O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?
15 ダンから告げる声がある、エフライムの山から災を知らせている。
For a voice declareth from Dan, and proclaimeth affliction from mount Ephraim.
16 国々の民に彼の来ることを告げ、またエルサレムに知らせよ。「攻めかこむ者が遠くの国から来て、ユダの町々にむかってその声をあげる。
Make ye mention to the nations; behold, proclaim against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
17 彼らは畑を守る者のようにこれを攻めかこむ。それはわたしにそむいたからだと、主は言われる。
As keepers of a field, they are against her on all sides; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.
18 あなたの道とその行いとが、あなたの身にこれを招いたのだ。これはあなたの悪の結果で、まことに苦く、あなたの心をつらぬく」。
Thy way and thy doings have procured these things to thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth to thy heart.
19 ああ、わがはらわたよ、わがはらわたよ、わたしは苦しみにもだえる。ああ、わが心臓の壁よ、わたしの心臓は、はげしく鼓動する。わたしは沈黙を守ることができない、ラッパの声と、戦いの叫びを聞くからである。
My heart, my heart! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
20 破壊に次ぐに破壊があり、全地は荒され、わたしの天幕はにわかに破られ、わたしの幕はたちまち破られた。
Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste: suddenly are my tents ruined, and my curtains in a moment.
21 いつまでわたしは旗を見、またラッパの声を聞かなければならないのか。
How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22 「わたしの民は愚かであって、わたしを知らない。彼らは愚鈍な子どもらで、悟ることがない。彼らは悪を行うのにさといけれども、善を行うことを知らない」。
For my people are foolish, they have not known me; they are silly children, and they have no understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
23 わたしは地を見たが、それは形がなく、またむなしかった。天をあおいだが、そこには光がなかった。
I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
24 わたしは山を見たが、みな震え、もろもろの丘は動いていた。
I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
25 わたしは見たが、人はひとりもおらず、空の鳥はみな飛び去っていた。
I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the fowls of the heavens had fled.
26 わたしは見たが、豊かな地は荒れ地となり、そのすべての町は、主の前に、その激しい怒りの前に、破壊されていた。
I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
27 それは主がこう言われたからだ、「全地は荒れ地となる。しかしわたしはことごとくはこれを滅ぼさない。
For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.
28 このために地は悲しみ、上なる天は暗くなる。わたしがすでにこれを言い、これを定めたからだ。わたしは悔いない、またそれをする事をやめない」。
For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.
29 どの町の人も、騎兵と射手の叫びのために逃げて森に入り、岩に上る。町はみな捨てられ、そこに住む人はない。
The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell in it.
30 ああ、荒された女よ、あなたが紅の着物をき、金の飾りで身をよそおい、目を塗って大きくするのは、なんのためか。あなたが美しくしても、むだである。あなたの恋人らはあなたを卑しめ、あなたの命を求めている。
And when thou art laid waste, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou enlarge thy eyes with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.
31 わたしは子を産む女のような声、ういごを産む女の苦しむような声を聞いた。シオンの娘のあえぐ叫びである。両手を伸べて彼女は言う、「わたしはわざわいだ、わたしを殺す者らの前にわたしは気が遠くなる」と。
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
