イザヤ書 31
1 助けを得るためにエジプトに下り、馬にたよる者はわざわいだ。彼らは戦車が多いので、これに信頼し、騎兵がはなはだ強いので、これに信頼する。しかしイスラエルの聖者を仰がず、また主にはかることをしない。
Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and stay on horses; and trust in chariots, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
2 それにもかかわらず、主もまた賢くいらせられ、必ず災をくだし、その言葉を取り消すことなく、立って悪をなす者の家を攻め、また不義を行う者を助ける者を攻められる。
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evil-doers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
3 かのエジプトびとは人であって、神ではない。その馬は肉であって、霊ではない。主がみ手を伸ばされるとき、助ける者はつまずき、助けられる者も倒れて、皆ともに滅びる。
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit: and when the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall stumble, and he that is holpen shall fall, and they all shall fail together.
4 主はわたしにこう言われた、「ししまたは若いししが獲物をつかんで、ほえたけるとき、あまたの羊飼が呼び出されて、これにむかっても、その声によって驚かず、その叫びによって恐れないように、万軍の主は下ってきて、シオンの山およびその丘で戦われる。
For thus saith the LORD unto me, Like as when the lion growleth and the young lion over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds be called forth against him, he will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight upon mount Zion, and upon the hill thereof.
5 鳥がひなを守るように、万軍の主はエルサレムを守り、これを守って救い、これを惜しんで助けられる」。
As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver [it], he will pass over and preserve [it].
6 イスラエルの人々よ、主に帰れ。あなたがたは、はなはだしく主にそむいた。
Turn ye unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, O children of Israel.
7 その日、あなたがたは自分の手で造って罪を犯したしろがねの偶像と、こがねの偶像をめいめい投げすてる。
For in that day they shall cast away every man his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
8 「アッスリヤびとはつるぎによって倒れる、人のつるぎではない。つるぎが彼らを滅ぼす、人のつるぎではない。彼らはつるぎの前から逃げ去り、その若い者は奴隷の働きをしいられる。
Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of men, shall devour him: and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become tributary.
9 彼らの岩は恐れによって過ぎ去り、その君たちはあわて、旗をすてて逃げ去る」。これは主の言葉である。主の火はシオンにあり、その炉はエルサレムにある。
And his rock shall pass away by reason of terror, and his princes shall be dismayed at the ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
