ハガイ書 2
1 ダリヨス王の二年の七月二十一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
In the seventh [month], on the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the Lord by means of Haggai the prophet, saying,
2 「シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルと、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュア、および残りのすべての民に告げて言え、
Do say to Zerubbabel the son of Shealthiel, the governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
3 『あなたがた残りの者のうち、以前の栄光に輝く主の家を見た者はだれか。あなたがたは今、この状態をどう思うか。これはあなたがたの目には、無にひとしいではないか。
Who is there yet left among you that hath seen this house in its first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in comparison with it as nothing in your eyes?
4 主は言われる、ゼルバベルよ、勇気を出せ。ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアよ、勇気を出せ。主は言われる。この地のすべての民よ、勇気を出せ。働け。わたしはあなたがたと共にいると、万軍の主は言われる。
Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the Lord, and be strong O Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord, and do; [for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts, ]
5 これはあなたがたがエジプトから出た時、わたしがあなたがたに、約束した言葉である。わたしの霊が、あなたがたのうちに宿っている。恐れるな。
[In accordance with] the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so [will] my spirit remain among you: fear nought.
6 万軍の主はこう言われる、しばらくして、いま一度、わたしは天と、地と、海と、かわいた地とを震う。
For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Yet one thing more [will I do], it is but little, when I will cause to quake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7 わたしはまた万国民を震う。万国民の財宝は、はいって来て、わたしは栄光をこの家に満たすと、万軍の主は言われる。
And I will cause to quake all the nations, and the precious things of all the nations shall come [hither]: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
8 銀はわたしのもの、金もわたしのものであると、万軍の主は言われる。
Mine is the silver, and mine is the gold, saith the Lord of hosts.
9 主の家の後の栄光は、前の栄光よりも大きいと、万軍の主は言われる。わたしはこの所に繁栄を与えると、万軍の主は言われる』」。
Greater shall be the glory of this latter house than that of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
10 ダリヨスの二年の九月二十四日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
On the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by means of Haggai the prophet, saying,
11 「万軍の主はこう言われる、律法について祭司たちに尋ねて言え、
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Do ask the priests concerning the law, saying,
12 『人がその衣服のすそで聖なる肉を運んで行き、そのすそがもし、パンまたはあつもの、または酒、または油、またはどんな食物にでもさわったなら、それらは聖なるものとなるか』と」。祭司たちは「ならない」と答えた。
Lo! if one should carry holy flesh in the corner of his garment, and touch with his corner bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it become holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13 ハガイはまた言った、「もし、死体によって汚れた人が、これらの一つにさわったなら、それは汚れるか」。祭司たちは「汚れる」と答えた。
Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body shall touch any of these, will it become unclean? And the priests answered and said, It will become unclean.
14 そこで、ハガイは言った、「主は言われる、この民も、この国も、わたしの前では、そのようである。またその手のわざもそのようである。その所で彼らのささげるものは、汚れたものである。
Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so are all works of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
15 今、あなたがたはこの日から、後の事を思うがよい。主の宮で石の上に石が積まれなかった前、あなたがたは、どんなであったか。
And now direct, I pray you, your heart from this day and upward, before the time that a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord:
16 あの時には、二十枡の麦の積まれる所に行ったが、わずかに十枡を得、また五十桶をくもうとして、酒ぶねに行ったが、二十桶を得たのみであった。
Since those days were, when one came to a heap of sheaves of twenty [in number], and there were but ten; when one came to the winepress for to draw off fifty measures out of the vat, and there were but twenty.
17 わたしは立ち枯れと、腐り穂と、ひょうをもってあなたがたと、あなたがたのすべての手のわざを撃った。しかし、あなたがたは、わたしに帰らなかったと主は言われる。
I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labors of your hands: yet ye [turned] not [back] to me, saith the Lord.
18 あなたがたはこの日より後、すなわち、九月二十四日よりの事を思うがよい。また主の宮の基をすえた日から後の事を心にとめるがよい。
Direct, I pray you, your heart from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, direct your heart [to this].
19 種はなお、納屋にあるか。ぶどうの木、いちじくの木、ざくろの木、オリブの木もまだ実を結ばない。しかし、わたしはこの日から、あなたがたに恵みを与える」。
Is the seed yet in the barn? yes, as yet the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, have not brought forth; [but] from this day will I bless you.
20 この月の二十四日に、主の言葉がふたたびハガイに臨んだ、
And the word of the Lord came the second time unto Haggai on the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
21 「ユダの総督ゼルバベルに告げて言え、わたしは天と地を震う。
Speak to Zerubbabel the governor of Judah, saying, I will cause to quake the heavens and the earth;
22 わたしは国々の王位を倒し、異邦の国々の力を滅ぼし、また戦車、およびこれに乗る者を倒す。馬およびこれに乗る者は、たがいにその仲間のつるぎによって倒れる。
And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
23 万軍の主は言われる、シャルテルの子、わがしもべゼルバベルよ、主は言われる、その日、わたしはあなたを立て、あなたを印章のようにする。わたしはあなたを選んだからであると、万軍の主は言われる」。
On that day, saith the Lord of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, the son of Shealthiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and I will place thee as a signet; for of thee have I made choice, saith the Lord of hosts.
