創世記 15
1 これらの事の後、主の言葉が幻のうちにアブラムに臨んだ、「アブラムよ恐れてはならない、わたしはあなたの盾である。あなたの受ける報いは、はなはだ大きいであろう」。
And so, these things having been transacted, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your protector, and your reward is exceedingly great.”
2 アブラムは言った、「主なる神よ、わたしには子がなく、わたしの家を継ぐ者はダマスコのエリエゼルであるのに、あなたはわたしに何をくださろうとするのですか」。
And Abram said: “Lord God, what will you give to me? I may go without children. And the son of the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.”
3 アブラムはまた言った、「あなたはわたしに子を賜わらないので、わたしの家に生れたしもべが、あとつぎとなるでしょう」。
And Abram added: “Yet to me you have not given offspring. And behold, my servant born in my house will be my heir.”
4 この時、主の言葉が彼に臨んだ、「この者はあなたのあとつぎとなるべきではありません。あなたの身から出る者があとつぎとなるべきです」。
And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: “This one will not be your heir. But he who will come from your loins, the same will you have for your heir.”
5 そして主は彼を外に連れ出して言われた、「天を仰いで、星を数えることができるなら、数えてみなさい」。また彼に言われた、「あなたの子孫はあのようになるでしょう」。
And he brought him outside, and he said to him, “Take in the heavens, and number the stars, if you can.” And he said to him, “So also will your offspring be.”
6 アブラムは主を信じた。主はこれを彼の義と認められた。
Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.
7 また主は彼に言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたに与えて、これを継がせようと、あなたをカルデヤのウルから導き出した主です」。
And he said to him, “I am the Lord who led you away from Ur of the Chaldeans, so as to give you this land, and so that you would possess it.”
8 彼は言った、「主なる神よ、わたしがこれを継ぐのをどうして知ることができますか」。
But he said, “Lord God, in what way may I be able to know that I will possess it?”
9 主は彼に言われた、「三歳の雌牛と、三歳の雌やぎと、三歳の雄羊と、山ばとと、家ばとのひなとをわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。
And the Lord responded by saying: “Take for me a cow of three years, and a she-goat of three years, and a ram of three years, also a turtle-dove and a pigeon.”
10 彼はこれらをみな連れてきて、二つに裂き、裂いたものを互に向かい合わせて置いた。ただし、鳥は裂かなかった。
Taking all these, he divided them through the middle, and placed both parts opposite one another. But the birds he did not divide.
11 荒い鳥が死体の上に降りるとき、アブラムはこれを追い払った。
And birds descended upon the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
12 日の入るころ、アブラムが深い眠りにおそわれた時、大きな恐ろしい暗やみが彼に臨んだ。
And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a dread, great and dark, invaded him.
13 時に主はアブラムに言われた、「あなたはよく心にとめておきなさい。あなたの子孫は他の国に旅びととなって、その人々に仕え、その人々は彼らを四百年の間、悩ますでしょう。
And it was said to him: “Know beforehand that your future offspring will be sojourners in a land not their own, and they will subjugate them in servitude and afflict them for four hundred years.
14 しかし、わたしは彼らが仕えたその国民をさばきます。その後かれらは多くの財産を携えて出て来るでしょう。
Yet truly, I will judge the nation that they will serve, and after this they will depart with great substance.
15 あなたは安らかに先祖のもとに行きます。そして高齢に達して葬られるでしょう。
But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.
16 四代目になって彼らはここに帰って来るでしょう。アモリびとの悪がまだ満ちないからです」。
But in the fourth generation, they will return here. For the iniquities of the Amorites are not yet completed, even to this present time.”
17 やがて日は入り、暗やみになった時、煙の立つかまど、炎の出るたいまつが、裂いたものの間を通り過ぎた。
Then, when the sun had set, there came a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.
18 その日、主はアブラムと契約を結んで言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたの子孫に与える。エジプトの川から、かの大川ユフラテまで。
On that day, God formed a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt, even to the great river Euphrates:
19 すなわちケニびと、ケニジびと、カドモニびと、
the land of the Kenites and the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites
20 ヘテびと、ペリジびと、レパイムびと、
and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, likewise the Rephaim,
21 アモリびと、カナンびと、ギルガシびと、エブスびとの地を与える」。
and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
