エズラ記 10
1 エズラが神の宮の前に泣き伏して祈り、かつざんげしていた時、男、女および子供の大いなる群集がイスラエルのうちから彼のもとに集まってきた。民はいたく泣き悲しんだ。
Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.
2 時にエラムの子孫のうちのエヒエルの子シカニヤが、エズラに告げて言った、「われわれは神にむかって罪を犯し、この地の民から異邦の女をめとりました。しかし、このことについてはイスラエルに、今なお望みがあります。
Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, “We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
3 それでわれわれはわが主の教と、われわれの神の命令におののく人々の教とに従って、これらの妻ならびにその子供たちを、ことごとく追い出すという契約を、われわれの神に立てましょう。そして律法に従ってこれを行いましょう。
Now therefore let’s make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.
4 立ちあがってください、この事はあなたの仕事です。われわれはあなたを助けます。心を強くしてこれを行いなさい」。
Arise, for the matter belongs to you and we are with you. Be courageous, and do it.”
5 エズラは立って、おもだった祭司、レビびとおよびすべてのイスラエルびとに、この言葉のように行うことを誓わせたので、彼らは誓った。
Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.
6 エズラは神の宮の前から出て、エリアシブの子ヨハナンのへやにはいったが、そこへ行っても彼はパンも食べず、水も飲まずに夜を過ごした。これは彼が、捕囚から帰った人々のとがを嘆いたからである。
Then Ezra rose up from before God’s house, and went into the room of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib. When he came there, he did not eat bread or drink water, for he mourned because of the trespass of the exiles.
7 そしてユダおよびエルサレムにあまねく布告を出し、捕囚から帰ったすべての者に告げて、エルサレムに集まるべき事と、
They made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem;
8 つかさおよび長老たちのさとしに従って、三日のうちにこない者はだれでもその財産はことごとく没収され、その人自身は捕われ人の会から破門されると言った。
and that whoever did not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his possessions should be forfeited, and he himself separated from the assembly of the captivity.
9 そこでユダとベニヤミンの人々は皆三日のうちにエルサレムに集まった。これは九月の二十日であった。すべての民は神の宮の前の広場に座して、このことのため、また大雨のために震えおののいていた。
Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the wide place in front of God’s house, trembling because of this matter, and because of the great rain.
10 時に祭司エズラは立って彼らに言った、「あなたがたは罪を犯し、異邦の女をめとって、イスラエルのとがを増した。
Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have trespassed, and have married foreign women, increasing the guilt of Israel.
11 それで今、あなたがたの先祖の神、主にざんげして、そのみ旨を行いなさい。あなたがたはこの地の民および異邦の女と離れなさい」。
Now therefore make confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers and do his pleasure. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign women.”
12 すると会衆は皆大声をあげて答えた、「あなたの言われたとおり、われわれは必ず行います。
Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, “We must do as you have said concerning us.
13 しかし民は多く、また大雨の季節ですから、外に立っていることはできません。またこれは一日やふつかの仕事ではありません。われわれはこの事について大いに罪を犯したからです。
But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand outside. This is not a work of one day or two, for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.
14 それでどうぞ、われわれのつかさたちは全会衆のために立ってください。われわれの町の内に、もし異邦の女をめとった者があるならば、みな定めの時にこさせなさい。またおのおのの町の長老および裁判人も、それと一緒にこさせなさい。そうすればこの事によるわれわれの神の激しい怒りは、ついにわれわれを離れるでしょう」。
Now let our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all those who are in our cities who have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God is turned from us, until this matter is resolved.”
15 ところがアサヘルの子ヨナタンおよびテクワの子ヤハジアはこれに反対した。そしてメシュラムおよびレビびとシャベタイは彼らを支持した。
Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
16 そこで捕囚から帰って来た人々はこのように行った。すなわち祭司エズラは、氏族の長たちをその氏族にしたがい、おのおのその名をさして選んだ。彼らは十月の一日から座してこの事を調べ、
The children of the captivity did so. Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers’ households, after their fathers’ houses, and all of them by their names, were set apart; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 正月の一日になって、異邦の女をめとった人々をことごとく調べ終った。
They finished with all the men who had married foreign women by the first day of the first month.
18 祭司の子孫のうちで異邦の女をめとった事のあらわれた者は、ヨザダクの子エシュアの子ら、およびその兄弟たちのうちではマアセヤ、エリエゼル、ヤリブ、ゲダリヤであった。
Among the sons of the priests there were found who had married foreign women: of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 彼らはその妻を離縁しようという誓いをなし、すでに罪を犯したというので、そのとがのために雄羊一頭をささげた。
They gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt.
20 インメルの子らのうちではハナニおよびゼバデヤ。
Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.
21 ハリムの子らのうちではマアセヤ、エリヤ、シマヤ、エヒエル、ウジヤ。
Of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 パシュルの子らのうちではエリオエナイ、マアセヤ、イシマエル、ネタンエル、ヨザバデ、エラサ。
Of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 レビびとのうちではヨザバテ、シメイ、ケラヤ（すなわちケリタ）、ペタヒヤ、ユダ、エリエゼル。
Of the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (also called Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 歌うたう者のうちではエリアシブ。門衛のうちではシャルム、テレム、ウリ。
Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.
25 イスラエルのうち、パロシの子らのうちではラミヤ、エジア、マルキヤ、ミヤミン、エレアザル、ハシャビヤ、ベナヤ。
Of Israel: Of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malchijah, and Benaiah.
26 エラムの子らのうちではマッタニヤ、ゼカリヤ、エヒエル、アブデ、エレモテ、エリヤ。
Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.
27 ザットの子らのうちではエリオエナイ、エリアシブ、マッタニヤ、エレモテ、ザバデ、アジザ。
Of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.
28 ベバイの子らのうちではヨハナン、ハナニヤ、ザバイ、アテライ。
Of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.
29 バニの子らのうちではメシュラム、マルク、アダヤ、ヤシュブ、シヤル、エレモテ。
Of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.
30 パハテ・モアブの子らのうちではアデナ、ケラル、ベナヤ、マアセヤ、マッタニヤ、ベザレル、ビンヌイ、マナセ。
Of the sons of Pahathmoab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.
31 ハリムの子らのうちではエリエゼル、イシヤ、マルキヤ、シマヤ、シメオン、
Of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,
32 ベニヤミン、マルク、シマリヤ。
Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.
33 ハシュムの子らのうちではマッテナイ、マッタタ、ザバデ、エリパレテ、エレマイ、マナセ、シメイ。
Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.
34 バニの子らのうちではマアダイ、アムラム、ウエル、
Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel,
35 ベナヤ、ベデヤ、ケルヒ、
Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,
36 ワニア、メレモテ、エリアシブ、
Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,
37 マッタニヤ、マッテナイ、ヤアス。
Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu,
38 ビンヌイの子らのうちではシメイ、
Bani, Binnui, Shimei,
39 シレミヤ、ナタン、アダヤ、
Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,
40 マクナデバイ、シャシャイ、シャライ、
Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,
41 アザリエル、シレミヤ、シマリヤ、
Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,
42 シャルム、アマリヤ、ヨセフ。
Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.
43 ネボの子らではエイエル、マッタテヤ、ザバデ、ゼビナ、ヤッダイ、ヨエル、ベナヤ。
Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, Joel, and Benaiah.
44 これらの者は皆異邦の女をめとった者である。彼らはその女たちをその子供と共に離縁した。
All these had taken foreign wives. Some of them had wives by whom they had children.
