出エジプト記 5
1 その後、モーセとアロンは行ってパロに言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、『わたしの民を去らせ、荒野で、わたしのために祭をさせなさい』と」。
And afterwards Moses and Aaron went in, and said to Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go that they may celebrate a feast to me in the wilderness.
2 パロは言った、「主とはいったい何者か。わたしがその声に聞き従ってイスラエルを去らせなければならないのか。わたしは主を知らない。またイスラエルを去らせはしない」。
And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, to whose voice I am to hearken to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, neither will I let Israel go.
3 彼らは言った、「ヘブルびとの神がわたしたちに現れました。どうか、わたしたちを三日の道のりほど荒野に行かせ、わたしたちの神、主に犠牲をささげさせてください。そうしなければ主は疫病か、つるぎをもって、わたしたちを悩まされるからです」。
And they said, The God of the Hebrews has met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Jehovah our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence or with sword.
4 エジプトの王は彼らに言った、「モーセとアロンよ、あなたがたは、なぜ民に働きをやめさせようとするのか。自分の労役につくがよい」。
And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do ye, Moses and Aaron, wish to have the people go off from their works? Away, to your burdens!
5 パロはまた言った、「見よ、今や土民の数は多い。しかも、あなたがたは彼らに労役を休ませようとするのか」。
And Pharaoh said, Behold the people of the land are now many, and ye wish to make them rest from their burdens.
6 その日、パロは民を追い使う者と、民のかしらたちに命じて言った、
And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7 「あなたがたは、れんがを作るためのわらを、もはや、今までのように、この民に与えてはならない。彼らに自分で行って、わらを集めさせなさい。
Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8 また前に作っていた、れんがの数どおりに彼らに作らせ、それを減らしてはならない。彼らはなまけ者だ。それだから、彼らは叫んで、『行ってわたしたちの神に犠牲をささげさせよ』と言うのだ。
And the number of the bricks they have made heretofore shall ye lay upon them: ye shall not diminish any of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go [and] sacrifice to our God.
9 この人々の労役を重くして、働かせ、偽りの言葉に心を寄せさせぬようにしなさい」。
Let them put heavier labour on the men, that they may be taken up with it, and not regard vain words.
10 そこで民を追い使う者たちと、民のかしらたちは出て行って、民に言った、「パロはこう仰せられる、『あなたがたに、わらは与えない。
And the taskmasters of the people and their officers went out and spoke to the people, saying, Thus says Pharaoh: I will not give you straw:
11 自分で行って、見つかる所から、わらを取って来るがよい。しかし働きは少しも減らしてはならない』と」。
go ye, get yourselves straw where ye may find it; but none of your work shall be diminished.
12 そこで民はエジプトの全地に散って、わらのかわりに、刈り株を集めた。
And the people were scattered abroad throughout the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
13 追い使う者たちは、彼らをせき立てて言った、「わらがあった時と同じように、あなたがたの働きの、日ごとの分を仕上げなければならない」。
And the taskmasters urged [them], saying, Fulfil your labours, the daily work, as when there was straw.
14 パロの追い使う者たちがイスラエルの人々の上に立てたかしらたちは、打たれて、「なぜ、あなたがたは、れんが作りの仕事を、きょうも、前のように仕上げないのか」と言われた。
And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, [and] it was said, Why have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick, both yesterday and to-day, as heretofore?
15 そこで、イスラエルの人々のかしらたちはパロのところに行き、叫んで言った、「あなたはなぜ、しもべどもにこんなことをなさるのですか。
Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, Why dost thou deal thus with thy bondmen?
16 しもべどもは、わらを与えられず、しかも彼らはわたしたちに、『れんがは作れ』と言うのです。その上、しもべどもは打たれています。罪はあなたの民にあるのです」。
There is no straw given to thy bondmen, and they say to us, Make brick; and behold, thy bondmen are beaten, but it is the fault of thy people.
17 パロは言った、「あなたがたは、なまけ者だ、なまけ者だ。それだから、『行って、主に犠牲をささげさせよ』と言うのだ。
And he said, Ye are idle, idle! therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah.
18 さあ、行って働きなさい。わらは与えないが、なおあなたがたは定めた数のれんがを納めなければならない」。
And now go — work! and straw shall not be given you, and ye shall deliver the measure of bricks.
19 イスラエルの人々のかしらたちは、「れんがの日ごとの分を減らしてはならない」と言われたので、悪い事態になったことを知った。
And the officers of the children of Israel saw [that] it stood ill with them, because it was said, Ye shall not diminish anything from your bricks, the daily work.
20 彼らがパロを離れて出てきた時、彼らに会おうとして立っていたモーセとアロンに会ったので、
And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood there to meet them, as they came out from Pharaoh.
21 彼らに言った、「主があなたがたをごらんになって、さばかれますように。あなたがたは、わたしたちをパロとその家来たちにきらわせ、つるぎを彼らの手に渡して、殺させようとしておられるのです」。
And they said to them, Jehovah look upon you and judge, that ye have made our odour to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his bondmen, putting a sword into their hand to kill us!
22 モーセは主のもとに帰って言った、「主よ、あなたは、なぜこの民をひどい目にあわされるのですか。なんのためにわたしをつかわされたのですか。
And Moses returned to Jehovah, and said, Lord, why hast thou done evil to this people? why now hast thou sent me?
23 わたしがパロのもとに行って、あなたの名によって語ってからこのかた、彼はこの民をひどい目にあわせるばかりです。また、あなたは、すこしもあなたの民を救おうとなさいません」。
For ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all!
