エステル 記 5

1 三日目にエステルは王妃の服を着、王宮の内庭に入り、王の広間にむかって立った。王は王宮の玉座に座して王宮の入口にむかっていたが、

Now it happened on the third day that Esther put on her royal clothing, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, next to the king's house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house.

2 王妃エステルが庭に立っているのを見て彼女に恵みを示し、その手にある金の笏をエステルの方に伸ばしたので、エステルは進みよってその笏の頭にさわった。

When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near, and touched the top of the scepter.

3 王は彼女に言った、「王妃エステルよ、何を求めるのか。あなたの願いは何か。国の半ばでもあなたに与えよう」。

Then the king asked her, "What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom."

4 エステルは言った、「もし王がよしとされるならば、きょうわたしが王のために設けた酒宴に、ハマンとご一緒にお臨みください」。

Esther said, "If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him."

5 そこで王は「ハマンを速く連れてきて、エステルの言うようにせよ」と言い、やがて王とハマンはエステルの設けた酒宴に臨んだ。

Then the king said, "Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said." So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

6 酒宴の時、王はエステルに言った、「あなたの求めることは何か。必ず聞かれる。あなたの願いは何か。国の半ばでも聞きとどけられる」。

The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, "What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed."

7 エステルは答えて言った、「わたしの求め、わたしの願いはこれです。

Then Esther answered and said, "My petition and my request is this.

8 もしわたしが王の目の前に恵みを得、また王がもしわたしの求めを許し、わたしの願いを聞きとどけるのをよしとされるならば、ハマンとご一緒に、あすまた、わたしが設けようとする酒宴に、お臨みください。わたしはあす王のお言葉どおりにいたしましょう」。

If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said."

9 こうしてハマンはその日、心に喜び楽しんで出てきたが、ハマンはモルデカイが王の門にいて、自分にむかって立ちあがりもせず、また身動きもしないのを見たので、モルデカイに対し怒りに満たされた。

Then Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the King's Gate, that he did not stand up nor move for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.

10 しかしハマンは耐え忍んで家に帰り、人をやってその友だちおよび妻ゼレシを呼んでこさせ、

Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and went home. There, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife.

11 そしてハマンはその富の栄華と、そのむすこたちの多いことと、すべて王が自分を重んじられたこと、また王の大臣および侍臣たちにまさって自分を昇進させられたことを彼らに語った。

Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.

12 ハマンはまた言った、「王妃エステルは酒宴を設けたが、わたしのほかはだれも王と共にこれに臨ませなかった。あすもまたわたしは王と共に王妃に招かれている。

Haman also said, "Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

13 しかしユダヤ人モルデカイが王の門に座しているのを見る間は、これらの事もわたしには楽しくない」。

Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King's Gate."

14 その時、妻ゼレシとすべての友は彼に言った、「高さ五十キュビトの木を立てさせ、あすの朝、モルデカイをその上に掛けるように王に申し上げなさい。そして王と一緒に楽しんでその酒宴においでなさい」。ハマンはこの事をよしとして、その木を立てさせた。

Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, "Let a gallows be made seventy-three feet eight inches high, and in the morning speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet." This pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.
