申命記 5
1 さてモーセはイスラエルのすべての人を召し寄せて言った、「イスラエルよ、きょう、わたしがあなたがたの耳に語る定めと、おきてを聞き、これを学び、これを守って行え。
And Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, Hear, Israel, the statutes and the ordinances that I speak in your ears this day, and learn them, and keep them to do them.
2 われわれの神、主はホレブで、われわれと契約を結ばれた。
Jehovah our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
3 主はこの契約をわれわれの先祖たちとは結ばず、きょう、ここに生きながらえているわれわれすべての者と結ばれた。
Not with our fathers did Jehovah make this covenant, but with us, [even] us, those [who are] here alive all of us this day.
4 主は山で火の中から、あなたがたと顔を合わせて語られた。
Face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire Jehovah spoke with you
5 その時、わたしは主とあなたがたとの間に立って主の言葉をあなたがたに伝えた。あなたがたは火のゆえに恐れて山に登ることができなかったからである。主は言われた、
(I stood between Jehovah and you at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah; for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up to the mountain), saying,
6 『わたしはあなたの神、主であって、あなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出した者である。
I am Jehovah thy God who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
7 あなたはわたしのほかに何ものをも神としてはならない。
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
8 あなたは自分のために刻んだ像を造ってはならない。上は天にあるもの、下は地にあるもの、また地の下の水の中にあるものの、どのような形をも造ってはならない。
Thou shalt not make thyself any graven image, any form of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the earth beneath, or what is in the waters under the earth:
9 それを拝んではならない。またそれに仕えてはならない。あなたの神、主であるわたしは、ねたむ神であるから、わたしを憎むものには、父の罪を子に報いて三、四代に及ぼし、
thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, and upon the third and upon the fourth [generation] of them that hate me,
10 わたしを愛し、わたしの戒めを守る者には恵みを施して千代に至るであろう。
and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
11 あなたの神、主の名をみだりに唱えてはならない。主はその名をみだりに唱える者を罰しないではおかないであろう。
Thou shalt not idly utter the name of Jehovah thy God; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his name.
12 安息日を守ってこれを聖とし、あなたの神、主があなたに命じられたようにせよ。
Keep the sabbath day to hallow it, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee.
13 六日のあいだ働いて、あなたのすべてのわざをしなければならない。
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
14 七日目はあなたの神、主の安息であるから、なんのわざをもしてはならない。あなたも、あなたのむすこ、娘、しもべ、はしため、牛、ろば、もろもろの家畜も、あなたの門のうちにおる他国の人も同じである。こうしてあなたのしもべ、はしためを、あなたと同じように休ませなければならない。
but the seventh day is the sabbath of Jehovah thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy sojourner that is within thy gates; that thy bondman and thy handmaid may rest as well as thou.
15 あなたはかつてエジプトの地で奴隷であったが、あなたの神、主が強い手と、伸ばした腕とをもって、そこからあなたを導き出されたことを覚えなければならない。それゆえ、あなたの神、主は安息日を守ることを命じられるのである。
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and that Jehovah thy God brought thee out thence with a powerful hand and with a stretched-out arm; therefore Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee to observe the sabbath day.
16 あなたの神、主が命じられたように、あなたの父と母とを敬え。あなたの神、主が賜わる地で、あなたが長く命を保ち、さいわいを得ることのできるためである。
Honour thy father and thy mother, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may be well with thee in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.
17 あなたは殺してはならない。
Thou shalt not kill.
18 あなたは姦淫してはならない。
Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
19 あなたは盗んではならない。
Neither shalt thou steal.
20 あなたは隣人について偽証してはならない。
Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
21 あなたは隣人の妻をむさぼってはならない。また隣人の家、畑、しもべ、はしため、牛、ろば、またすべて隣人のものをほしがってはならない』。
Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, nor his bondman, nor his handmaid, his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.
22 主はこれらの言葉を山で火の中、雲の中、濃い雲の中から、大いなる声をもって、あなたがたの全会衆にお告げになったが、このほかのことは言われず、二枚の石の板にこれを書きしるして、わたしに授けられた。
These words Jehovah spoke to all your congregation on the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the obscurity, with a great voice, and he added no more; and he wrote them on two tables of stone, and gave them to me.
23 時に山は火で燃えていたが、あなたがたが暗黒のうちから聞える声を聞くに及んで、あなたがたの部族のすべてのかしらと長老たちは、わたしに近寄って、
And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, and the mountain burned with fire, that ye came near to me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
24 言った、『われわれの神、主がその栄光と、その大いなることとを、われわれに示されて、われわれは火の中から出るその声を聞きました。きょう、われわれは神が人と語られ、しかもなおその人が生きているのを見ました。
and ye said, Behold, Jehovah our God has shewn us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God talks with man, and he lives.
25 われわれはなぜ死ななければならないでしょうか。この大いなる火はわれわれを焼き滅ぼそうとしています。もしこの上なおわれわれの神、主の声を聞くならば、われわれは死んでしまうでしょう。
And now, why should we die? for this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more, we shall die.
26 およそ肉なる者のうち、だれが、火の中から語られる生ける神の声を、われわれのように聞いてなお生きている者がありましょうか。
For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we, and has lived?
27 あなたはどうぞ近く進んで行って、われわれの神、主が言われることをみな聞き、われわれの神、主があなたにお告げになることをすべてわれわれに告げてください。われわれは聞いて行います』。
Come thou near, and hear all that Jehovah our God will say; and speak thou to us all that Jehovah our God will speak to thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
28 あなたがたがわたしに語っている時、主はあなたがたの言葉を聞いて、わたしに言われた、『わたしはこの民がおまえに語っている言葉を聞いた。彼らの言ったことはみな良い。
And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, when ye spoke to me; and Jehovah said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people that have spoken to thee: they have well spoken all that they have spoken.
29 ただ願わしいことは、彼らがつねにこのような心をもってわたしを恐れ、わたしのすべての命令を守って、彼らもその子孫も永久にさいわいを得るにいたることである。
Oh that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments continually, that it might be well with them and with their sons for ever!
30 おまえは行って彼らに、「あなたがたはおのおのその天幕に帰れ」と言え。
Go, say unto them, Get you into your tents again.
31 しかし、おまえはこの所でわたしのそばに立て。わたしはすべての命令と、定めと、おきてとをおまえに告げ示すであろう。おまえはこれを彼らに教え、わたしが彼らに与えて獲させる地において、これを行わせなければならない』。
But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
32 それゆえ、あなたがたの神、主が命じられたとおりに、慎んで行わなければならない。そして左にも右にも曲ってはならない。
Take heed then to do as Jehovah your God hath commanded you: turn not aside to the right hand or to the left.
33 あなたがたの神、主が命じられた道に歩まなければならない。そうすればあなたがたは生きることができ、かつさいわいを得て、あなたがたの獲る地において、長く命を保つことができるであろう。
In all the way that Jehovah your God hath commanded you shall ye walk, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
