申命記 21
1 あなたの神、主が与えて獲させられる地で、殺されて野に倒れている人があって、だれが殺したのかわからない時は、
If someone is found killed in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess, lying in the field, and it is not known who has attacked him;
2 長老たちと、さばきびとたちが出てきて、その殺された者のある所から、周囲の町々までの距離をはからなければならない。
then your elders and your judges must go out, and they must measure to the cities that are around him who has been killed.
3 そしてその殺された者のある所に最も近い町の長老たちは、まだ使わない、まだくびきを負わせて引いたことのない若い雌牛をとり、
Then the elders of the town nearest to the dead man's body must take a heifer from the herd, one that has never been put to work, and that has not borne the yoke.
4 その町の長老たちはその雌牛を、耕すことも、種まくこともしない、絶えず水の流れている谷へ引いていって、その谷で雌牛のくびを折らなければならない。
Then they must lead the heifer down to a valley with running water, a valley that has been neither plowed nor sown, and there in the valley they must break the heifer's neck.
5 その時レビの子孫である祭司たちは、そこに進み出なければならない。彼らはあなたの神、主が自分に仕えさせ、また主の名によって祝福させるために選ばれた者で、すべての論争と、すべての暴行は彼らの言葉によって解決されるからである。
The priests, descendants of Levi, must come forward, for Yahweh your God has chosen them to serve him and give blessing in the name of Yahweh and to decide every case of dispute and assault by their word.
6 そしてその殺された者のある所に最も近い町の長老たちは皆、彼らが谷でくびを折った雌牛の上で手を洗い、
All the elders of the city that is the nearest to the killed man must wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;
7 証言して言わなければならない、『われわれの手はこの血を流さず、われわれの目もそれを見なかった。
and they must answer to the case and say, 'Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.
8 主よ、あなたがあがなわれた民イスラエルをおゆるしください。罪のない者の血を流したとがを、あなたの民イスラエルのうちにとどめないでください。そして血を流したとがをおゆるしください』。
Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and do not put guilt for innocent bloodshed in the midst of your people Israel.' Then the bloodshed will be forgiven them.
9 このようにして、あなたは主が正しいと見られる事をおこない、罪のない者の血を流したとがを、あなたがたのうちから除き去らなければならない。
In this way you will put away the innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the eyes of Yahweh.
10 あなたが出て敵と戦う際、あなたの神、主がそれをあなたの手にわたされ、あなたがそれを捕虜とした時、
When you go out to do battle against your enemies and Yahweh your God gives you victory and puts them under your control, and you take them away as captives,
11 もし捕虜のうちに美しい女のあるのを見て、それを好み、妻にめとろうとするならば、
if you see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire for her and wish to take her for yourself as a wife,
12 その女をあなたの家に連れて帰らなければならない。女は髪をそり、つめを切り、
then you will bring her home to your house; she will shave her head and cut her nails.
13 また捕虜の着物を脱ぎすてて、あなたの家におり、自分の父母のために一か月のあいだ嘆かなければならない。そして後、あなたは彼女の所にはいって、その夫となり、彼女を妻とすることができる。
Then she will take off the clothes she was wearing when she was taken captive and she will remain in your house and mourn for her father and her mother a full month. After that you may sleep with her and be her husband, and she will be your wife.
14 その後あなたがもし彼女を好まなくなったならば、彼女を自由に去らせなければならない。決して金で売ってはならない。あなたはすでに彼女をはずかしめたのだから、彼女を奴隷のようにあしらってはならない。
But if you take no delight in her, then you may let her go where she wishes. But you must not sell her at all for money, and you must not treat her like a slave, because you have humiliated her.
15 人がふたりの妻をもち、そのひとりは愛する者、ひとりは気にいらない者であって、その愛する者と気にいらない者のふたりが、ともに男の子を産み、もしその長子が、気にいらない女の産んだ者である時は、
If a man has two wives and one is loved and the other is hated, and they have both borne him children—both the beloved wife and the hated wife—if the firstborn son is of her that is hated,
16 その子たちに自分の財産を継がせる時、気にいらない女の産んだ長子をさしおいて、愛する女の産んだ子を長子とすることはできない。
then on the day that the man causes his sons to inherit what he possesses, he may not make the son of the beloved wife the firstborn before the son of the hated wife, the son who is actually the firstborn.
17 必ずその気にいらない者の産んだ子が長子であることを認め、自分の財産を分ける時には、これに二倍の分け前を与えなければならない。これは自分の力の初めであって、長子の特権を持っているからである。
Instead, he must acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated wife, by giving him a double portion of all that he possesses; for that son is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn belongs to him.
18 もし、わがままで、手に負えない子があって、父の言葉にも、母の言葉にも従わず、父母がこれを懲らしてもきかない時は、
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, even though they correct him, will not listen to them;
19 その父母はこれを捕えて、その町の門に行き、町の長老たちの前に出し、
then his father and his mother must lay hold on him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his city.
20 町の長老たちに言わなければならない、『わたしたちのこの子はわがままで、手に負えません。わたしたちの言葉に従わず、身持ちが悪く、大酒飲みです』。
They must say to the elders of his city, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.'
21 そのとき、町の人は皆、彼を石で撃ち殺し、あなたがたのうちから悪を除き去らなければならない。そうすれば、イスラエルは皆聞いて恐れるであろう。
Then all the men of his city must stone him to death with stones; and you will remove the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and fear.
22 もし人が死にあたる罪を犯して殺され、あなたがそれを木の上にかける時は、
If a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,
23 翌朝までその死体を木の上に留めておいてはならない。必ずそれをその日のうちに埋めなければならない。木にかけられた者は神にのろわれた者だからである。あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地を汚してはならない。
then his body must not remain all night on the tree. Instead, you must surely bury him the same day; for whoever is hanged is cursed by God. Obey this commandment so that you do not defile the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance.
