列王記Ⅱ 5

1 スリヤ王の軍勢の長ナアマンはその主君に重んじられた有力な人であった。主がかつて彼を用いてスリヤに勝利を得させられたからである。彼は大勇士であったが、らい病をわずらっていた。

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance to Syria: he was also a mighty man in valor, but he was a leper.

2 さきにスリヤびとが略奪隊を組んで出てきたとき、イスラエルの地からひとりの少女を捕えて行った。彼女はナアマンの妻に仕えたが、

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

3 その女主人にむかって、「ああ、御主人がサマリヤにいる預言者と共におられたらよかったでしょうに。彼はそのらい病をいやしたことでしょう」と言ったので、

And she said to her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

4 ナアマンは行って、その主君に、「イスラエルの地からきた娘がこういう事を言いました」と告げると、

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

5 スリヤ王は言った、「それでは行きなさい。わたしはイスラエルの王に手紙を書きましょう」。そこで彼は銀十タラントと、金六千シケルと、晴れ着十着を携えて行った。

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

6 彼がイスラエルの王に持って行った手紙には、「この手紙があなたにとどいたならば、わたしの家来ナアマンを、あなたにつかわしたことと御承知ください。あなたに彼のらい病をいやしていただくためです」とあった。

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come to you, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may recover him of his leprosy.

7 イスラエルの王はその手紙を読んだ時、衣を裂いて言った、「わたしは殺したり、生かしたりすることのできる神であろうか。どうしてこの人は、らい病人をわたしにつかわして、それをいやせと言うのか。あなたがたは、彼がわたしに争いをしかけているのを知って警戒するがよい」。

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man does send to me to recover a man of his leprosy? why consider, I pray you, and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.

8 神の人エリシャは、イスラエルの王がその衣を裂いたことを聞き、王に人をつかわして言った、「どうしてあなたは衣を裂いたのですか。彼をわたしのもとにこさせなさい。そうすれば彼はイスラエルに預言者のあることを知るようになるでしょう」。

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Why have you rent your clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 そこでナアマンは馬と車とを従えてきて、エリシャの家の入口に立った。

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 するとエリシャは彼に使者をつかわして言った、「あなたはヨルダンへ行って七たび身を洗いなさい。そうすれば、あなたの肉はもとにかえって清くなるでしょう」。

And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.

11 しかしナアマンは怒って去り、そして言った、「わたしは、彼がきっとわたしのもとに出てきて立ち、その神、主の名を呼んで、その箇所の上に手を動かして、らい病をいやすのだろうと思った。

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

12 ダマスコの川アバナとパルパルはイスラエルのすべての川水にまさるではないか。わたしはこれらの川に身を洗って清まることができないのであろうか」。こうして彼は身をめぐらし、怒って去った。

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

13 その時、しもべたちは彼に近よって言った、「わが父よ、預言者があなたに、何か大きな事をせよと命じても、あなたはそれをなさらなかったでしょうか。まして彼はあなたに『身を洗って清くなれ』と言うだけではありませんか」。

And his servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid you do some great thing, would you not have done it? how much rather then, when he says to you, Wash, and be clean?

14 そこでナアマンは下って行って、神の人の言葉のように七たびヨルダンに身を浸すと、その肉がもとにかえって幼な子の肉のようになり、清くなった。

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like to the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 彼はすべての従者を連れて神の人のもとに帰ってきて、その前に立って言った、「わたしは今、イスラエルのほか、全地のどこにも神のおられないことを知りました。それゆえ、どうぞ、しもべの贈り物を受けてください」。

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray you, take a blessing of your servant.

16 エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える主は生きておられる。わたしは何も受けません」。彼はしいて受けさせようとしたが、それを拒んだ。

But he said, As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 そこでナアマンは言った、「もしお受けにならないのであれば、どうぞ騾馬に二駄の土をしもべにください。これから後しもべは、他の神には燔祭も犠牲もささげず、ただ主にのみささげます。

And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray you, be given to your servant two mules’ burden of earth? for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD.

18 どうぞ主がこの事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように。すなわち、わたしの主君がリンモンの宮にはいって、そこで礼拝するとき、わたしの手によりかかることがあり、またわたしもリンモンの宮で身をかがめることがありましょう。わたしがリンモンの宮で身をかがめる時、どうぞ主がその事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように」。

In this thing the LORD pardon your servant, that when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this thing.

19 エリシャは彼に言った、「安んじて行きなさい」。ナアマンがエリシャを離れて少し行ったとき、

And he said to him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

20 神の人エリシャのしもべゲハジは言った、「主人はこのスリヤびとナアマンをいたわって、彼が携えてきた物を受けなかった。主は生きておられる。わたしは彼のあとを追いかけて、彼から少し、物を受けよう」。

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

21 そしてゲハジはナアマンのあとを追ったが、ナアマンは自分のあとから彼が走ってくるのを見て、車から降り、彼を迎えて、「変った事があるのですか」と言うと、

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

22 彼は言った、「無事です。主人がわたしをつかわして言わせます、『ただいまエフライムの山地から、預言者のともがらのふたりの若者が、わたしのもとに来ましたので、どうぞ彼らに銀一タラントと晴れ着二着を与えてください』」。

And he said, All is well. My master has sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray you, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

23 ナアマンは、「どうぞ二タラントを受けてください」と言って彼にしい、銀二タラントを二つの袋に入れ、晴れ着二着を添えて、自分のふたりのしもべに渡したので、彼らはそれを負ってゲハジの先に立って進んだが、

And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them on two of his servants; and they bore them before him.

24 彼は丘にきたとき、それを彼らの手から受け取って家のうちにおさめ、人々を送りかえしたので、彼らは去った。

And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

25 彼がはいって主人の前に立つと、エリシャは彼に言った、「ゲハジよ、どこへ行ってきたのか」。彼は言った、「しもべはどこへも行きません」。

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, From where come you, Gehazi? And he said, Your servant went no where.

26 エリシャは言った、「あの人が車をはなれて、あなたを迎えたとき、わたしの心はあなたと一緒にそこにいたではないか。今は金を受け、着物を受け、オリブ畑、ぶどう畑、羊、牛、しもべ、はしためを受ける時であろうか。

And he said to him, Went not my heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

27 それゆえ、ナアマンのらい病はあなたに着き、ながくあなたの子孫に及ぶであろう」。彼がエリシャの前を出ていくとき、らい病が発して雪のように白くなっていた。

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall stick to you, and to your seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
