テモテへの手紙第一 6
1 くびきの下にある奴隷はすべて、自分の主人を、真に尊敬すべき者として仰ぐべきである。それは、神の御名と教とが、そしりを受けないためである。
All who are under the yoke of slavery must regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that no one will revile God's name or his doctrine.
2 信者である主人を持っている者たちは、その主人が兄弟であるというので軽視してはならない。むしろ、ますます励んで仕えるべきである。その益を受ける主人は、信者であり愛されている人だからである。あなたは、これらの事を教えかつ勧めなさい。
Slaves who have believing masters must not despise them, for they are brothers; rather they must serve them, because those who benefit from their good service are faithful and beloved. Teach and encourage these things.
3 もし違ったことを教えて、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの健全な言葉、ならびに信心にかなう教に同意しないような者があれば、
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that is in accordance with godliness,
4 彼は高慢であって、何も知らず、ただ論議と言葉の争いとに病みついている者である。そこから、ねたみ、争い、そしり、さいぎの心が生じ、
he is puffed up and understands nothing. Moreover, he has an unhealthy desire for controversies and quarrels about words, from which come envy, strife, slanderous words, evil suspicions,
5 また知性が腐って、真理にそむき、信心を利得と心得る者どもの間に、はてしのないいがみ合いが起るのである。
and constant disagreement among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of gain. Keep away from such people.
6 しかし、信心があって足ることを知るのは、大きな利得である。
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 わたしたちは、何ひとつ持たないでこの世にきた。また、何ひとつ持たないでこの世を去って行く。
For we brought nothing into the world, and it is clear that we cannot bring anything out either,
8 ただ衣食があれば、それで足れりとすべきである。
but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
9 富むことを願い求める者は、誘惑と、わなとに陥り、また、人を滅びと破壊とに沈ませる、無分別な恐ろしいさまざまの情欲に陥るのである。
But those who wish to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many senseless and harmful desires that sink people into ruin and destruction.
10 金銭を愛することは、すべての悪の根である。ある人々は欲ばって金銭を求めたため、信仰から迷い出て、多くの苦痛をもって自分自身を刺しとおした。
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to become rich some have wandered away from the faith, piercing themselves with many sorrows.
11 しかし、神の人よ。あなたはこれらの事を避けなさい。そして、義と信心と信仰と愛と忍耐と柔和とを追い求めなさい。
But as for yoʋ, O man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness.
Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which yoʋ were called and concerning which yoʋ made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (aiōnios g166)
13 わたしはすべてのものを生かして下さる神のみまえと、またポンテオ・ピラトの面前でりっぱなあかしをなさったキリスト・イエスのみまえで、あなたに命じる。
I charge yoʋ before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who made the good confession in his testimony before Pontius Pilate,
14 わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの出現まで、その戒めを汚すことがなく、また、それを非難のないように守りなさい。
that yoʋ obey what has been commanded without fault or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 時がくれば、祝福に満ちた、ただひとりの力あるかた、もろもろの王の王、もろもろの主の主が、キリストを出現させて下さるであろう。
which God will reveal in his own time. He is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power. Amen. (aiōnios g166)
17 この世で富んでいる者たちに、命じなさい。高慢にならず、たよりにならない富に望みをおかず、むしろ、わたしたちにすべての物を豊かに備えて楽しませて下さる神に、のぞみをおくように、 (aiōn g165)
Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty or to put their hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. (aiōn g165)
18 また、良い行いをし、良いわざに富み、惜しみなく施し、人に分け与えることを喜び、
Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and willing to share,
19 こうして、真のいのちを得るために、未来に備えてよい土台を自分のために築き上げるように、命じなさい。
treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, so that they may take hold of eternal life.
20 テモテよ。あなたにゆだねられていることを守りなさい。そして、俗悪なむだ話と、偽りの「知識」による反対論とを避けなさい。
O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to yoʋ and avoid the profane chatter and counterarguments of what is falsely called “knowledge.”
21 ある人々はそれに熱中して、信仰からそれてしまったのである。恵みが、あなたがたと共にあるように。
By professing it, some have strayed from the faith. Grace be with yoʋ. Amen.
