テモテへの手紙第一 1
1 わたしたちの救主なる神と、わたしたちの望みであるキリスト・イエスとの任命によるキリスト・イエスの使徒パウロから、
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the command of God our Savior and Sovereign Jesus Christ our hope,
2 信仰によるわたしの真実な子テモテへ。父なる神とわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
to Timothy, true son by faith: Grace, mercy, peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 わたしがマケドニヤに向かって出発する際、頼んでおいたように、あなたはエペソにとどまっていて、ある人々に、違った教を説くことをせず、
You recall that I urged you to remain in Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, in order that you should command certain persons to stop teaching a different doctrine
4 作り話やはてしのない系図などに気をとられることもないように、命じなさい。そのようなことは信仰による神の務を果すものではなく、むしろ論議を引き起させるだけのものである。
and occupying themselves with myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than the godly training which is by faith.
5 わたしのこの命令は、清い心と正しい良心と偽りのない信仰とから出てくる愛を目標としている。
Now the goal of that command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith;
6 ある人々はこれらのものからそれて空論に走り、
some having strayed from these have been turned aside to empty talk,
7 律法の教師たることを志していながら、自分の言っていることも主張していることも、わからないでいる。
desiring to be teachers of the law, not understanding either what they say or the things that they affirm.
8 わたしたちが知っているとおり、律法なるものは、法に従って用いるなら、良いものである。
Now we know that the law is good if one uses it correctly,
9 すなわち、律法は正しい人のために定められたのではなく、不法な者と法に服さない者、不信心な者と罪ある者、神聖を汚す者と俗悪な者、父を殺す者と母を殺す者、人を殺す者、
knowing that law is not made for a righteous person but for lawless and rebellious ones, for ungodly and sinners, for unholy and profane, for father-smiters and mother-smiters, for murderers,
10 不品行な者、男色をする者、誘かいする者、偽る者、偽り誓う者、そのほか健全な教にもとることがあれば、そのために定められていることを認むべきである。
for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine
11 これは、祝福に満ちた神の栄光の福音が示すところであって、わたしはこの福音をゆだねられているのである。
as defined by the Gospel of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted.
12 わたしは、自分を強くして下さったわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスに感謝する。主はわたしを忠実な者と見て、この務に任じて下さったのである。
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who enables me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into a ministry;
13 わたしは以前には、神をそしる者、迫害する者、不遜な者であった。しかしわたしは、これらの事を、信仰がなかったとき、無知なためにしたのだから、あわれみをこうむったのである。
I, who was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and arrogant; but I was shown mercy, because being ignorant I did it in unbelief;
14 その上、わたしたちの主の恵みが、キリスト・イエスにある信仰と愛とに伴い、ますます増し加わってきた。
the grace of our Lord overflowed, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15 「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世にきて下さった」という言葉は、確実で、そのまま受けいれるに足るものである。わたしは、その罪人のかしらなのである。
Here is a trustworthy word, worthy of total acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am chief;
16 しかし、わたしがあわれみをこうむったのは、キリスト・イエスが、まずわたしに対して限りない寛容を示し、そして、わたしが今後、彼を信じて永遠のいのちを受ける者の模範となるためである。 (aiōnios g166)
precisely for this reason I was shown mercy, that in me, the ‘chief’, Jesus Christ might display all his forbearance, as an example for those who are going to rely on Him into eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
18 わたしの子テモテよ。以前あなたに対してなされた数々の預言の言葉に従って、この命令を与える。あなたは、これらの言葉に励まされて、信仰と正しい良心とを保ちながら、りっぱに戦いぬきなさい。
Son Timothy, I am giving you this charge in accordance with the prophecies about you that lead the way, that in them you may wage the good warfare,
19 ある人々は、正しい良心を捨てたため、信仰の破船に会った。
holding on to faith and a good conscience (which some having rejected have suffered shipwreck concerning the Faith;
20 その中に、ヒメナオとアレキサンデルとがいる。わたしは、神を汚さないことを学ばせるため、このふたりをサタンの手に渡したのである。
of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander—whom I have handed over to Satan that they may be taught not to blaspheme).
