ペテロの手紙第一 1
1 イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤおよびビテニヤに離散し寄留している人たち、
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 すなわち、イエス・キリストに従い、かつ、その血のそそぎを受けるために、父なる神の予知されたところによって選ばれ、御霊のきよめにあずかっている人たちへ。恵みと平安とが、あなたがたに豊かに加わるように。
according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
3 ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神。神は、その豊かなあわれみにより、イエス・キリストを死人の中からよみがえらせ、それにより、わたしたちを新たに生れさせて生ける望みをいだかせ、
Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 あなたがたのために天にたくわえてある、朽ちず汚れず、しぼむことのない資産を受け継ぐ者として下さったのである。
unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 あなたがたは、終りの時に啓示さるべき救にあずかるために、信仰により神の御力に守られているのである。
who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 そのことを思って、今しばらくのあいだは、さまざまな試錬で悩まねばならないかも知れないが、あなたがたは大いに喜んでいる。
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold temptations,
7 こうして、あなたがたの信仰はためされて、火で精錬されても朽ちる外はない金よりもはるかに尊いことが明らかにされ、イエス・キリストの現れるとき、さんびと栄光とほまれとに変るであろう。
that the proof of your faith, [being] more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, might be found unto praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ:
8 あなたがたは、イエス・キリストを見たことはないが、彼を愛している。現在、見てはいないけれども、信じて、言葉につくせない、輝きにみちた喜びにあふれている。
whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 それは、信仰の結果なるたましいの救を得ているからである。
receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.
10 この救については、あなたがたに対する恵みのことを預言した預言者たちも、たずね求め、かつ、つぶさに調べた。
Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that [should come] unto you:
11 彼らは、自分たちのうちにいますキリストの霊が、キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光とを、あらかじめあかしした時、それは、いつの時、どんな場合をさしたのかを、調べたのである。
searching what [time] or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them.
12 そして、それらについて調べたのは、自分たちのためではなくて、あなたがたのための奉仕であることを示された。それらの事は、天からつかわされた聖霊に感じて福音をあなたがたに宣べ伝えた人々によって、今や、あなたがたに告げ知らされたのであるが、これは、御使たちも、うかがい見たいと願っている事である。
To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Ghost sent forth from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
13 それだから、心の腰に帯を締め、身を慎み、イエス・キリストの現れる時に与えられる恵みを、いささかも疑わずに待ち望んでいなさい。
Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 従順な子供として、無知であった時代の欲情に従わず、
as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in [the time of] your ignorance:
15 むしろ、あなたがたを召して下さった聖なるかたにならって、あなたがた自身も、あらゆる行いにおいて聖なる者となりなさい。
but like as he which called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living;
16 聖書に、「わたしが聖なる者であるから、あなたがたも聖なる者になるべきである」と書いてあるからである。
because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.
17 あなたがたは、人をそれぞれのしわざに応じて、公平にさばくかたを、父と呼んでいるからには、地上に宿っている間を、おそれの心をもって過ごすべきである。
And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:
18 あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、あなたがたが先祖伝来の空疎な生活からあがない出されたのは、銀や金のような朽ちる物によったのではなく、
knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers;
19 きずも、しみもない小羊のようなキリストの尊い血によったのである。
but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, [even the blood] of Christ:
20 キリストは、天地が造られる前から、あらかじめ知られていたのであるが、この終りの時に至って、あなたがたのために現れたのである。
who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of the times for your sake,
21 あなたがたは、このキリストによって、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせて、栄光をお与えになった神を信じる者となったのであり、したがって、あなたがたの信仰と望みとは、神にかかっているのである。
who through him are believers in God, which raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 あなたがたは、真理に従うことによって、たましいをきよめ、偽りのない兄弟愛をいだくに至ったのであるから、互に心から熱く愛し合いなさい。
Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from the heart fervently:
having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth. (aiōn g165)
24 「人はみな草のごとく、その栄華はみな草の花に似ている。草は枯れ、花は散る。
For, All flesh is as grass, And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:
