1 ダビデがキシの子サウルにしりぞけられて、なおチクラグにいた時、次の人々が彼のもとに来た。彼らはダビデを助けて戦った勇士たちのうちにあり、
Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag, while he was still kept from the presence of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.
2 弓をよくする者、左右いずれの手をもってもよく矢を射、石を投げる者で、ともにベニヤミンびとで、サウルの同族である。
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow: they were of Saul's brothers of Benjamin.
3 そのかしらはアヒエゼル、次はヨアシで、ともにギベア出身のシマアの子たちである。またエジエルとペレテで、ともにアズマウテの子たちである。またベラカおよびアナトテ出身のエヒウ。
The chief was Ahiezer; then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite,
4 またギベオン出身のイシマヤ、彼は三十人のうちの勇士で、その三十人の長である。またエレミヤ、ヤハジエル、ヨハナン、ゲデラ出身のヨザバデ、
and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the Thirty, and over the Thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite,
5 エルザイ、エリモテ、ベアリヤ、シマリヤ、ハリフびとシパテヤ、
Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Baaliah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite,
6 エルカナ、イシア、アザリエル、ヨエゼル、ヤショベアムで、これらはコラびとである。
Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites,
7 またゲドルのエロハムの子たちであるヨエラおよびゼバデヤである。
and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 ガドびとのうちから荒野の要害に来て、ダビデについた者は皆勇士で、よく戦う軍人、よく盾とやりをつかう者、その顔はししの顔のようで、その速いことは山にいるしかのようであった。
Of the Gadites there separated themselves to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes on the mountains;
9 彼らのかしらはエゼル、次はオバデヤ、第三はエリアブ、
Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
10 第四はミシマンナ、第五はエレミヤ、
Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 第六はアッタイ、第七はエリエル、
Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 第八はヨナハン、第九はエルザバデ、
Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 第十はエレミヤ、第十一はマクバナイである。
Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
14 これらはガドの子孫で軍勢の長たる者、その最も小さい者でも百人に当り、その最も大いなる者は千人に当った。
These of the sons of Gad were captains of the army: he who was least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand.
15 正月、ヨルダンがその全岸にあふれたとき、彼らはこれを渡って、谷々にいる者をことごとく東に西に逃げ走らせた。
These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
16 ベニヤミンとユダの子孫のうちの人々が要害に来て、ダビデについた。
There came of the people of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold to David.
17 ダビデは出て彼らを迎えて言った、「あなたがたが好意をもって、わたしを助けるために来たのならば、わたしの心もあなたがたと、ひとつになりましょう。しかし、わたしの手になんの悪事もないのに、もしあなたがたが、わたしを欺いて、敵に渡すためであるならば、われわれの先祖の神がどうぞみそなわして、あなたがたを責められますように」。
David went out to meet them, and answered them, "If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it."
18 時に霊が三十人の長アマサイに臨み、アマサイは言った、「ダビデよ、われわれはあなたのもの。エッサイの子よ、われわれはあなたと共にある。平安あれ、あなたに平安あれ。あなたを助ける者に平安あれ。あなたの神があなたを助けられる」。そこでダビデは彼らを受けいれて部隊の長とした。
Then the Ruach came on Amasai, who was chief of the Thirty, and he said, "We are yours, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse: peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you." Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
19 さきにダビデがペリシテびとと共にサウルと戦おうと攻めて来たとき、マナセびと数人がダビデについた。（ただしダビデはついにペリシテびとを助けなかった。それはペリシテびとの君たちが相はかって、「彼はわれわれの首をとって、その主君サウルのもとに帰るであろう」と言って、彼を去らせたからである。）
Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they did not help them; for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, "He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads."
20 ダビデがチクラグへ行ったとき、マナセびとアデナ、ヨザバデ、エデアエル、ミカエル、ヨザバデ、エリウ、ヂルタイが彼についた。皆マナセびとの千人の長であった。
As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands who were of Manasseh.
21 彼らはダビデを助けて敵軍に当った。彼らは皆大勇士で軍勢の長であった。
They helped David against the band of rovers: for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army.
22 ダビデを助ける者が日に日に加わって、ついに大軍となり、神の軍勢のようになった。
For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God.
23 主の言葉に従い、サウルの国をダビデに与えようとして、ヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに来た武装した軍隊の数は、次のとおりである。
These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.
24 ユダの子孫で盾とやりをとり、武装した者六千八百人、
The people of Judah who bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.
25 シメオンの子孫で、よく戦う勇士七千百人、
Of the people of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.
26 レビの子孫からは四千六百人。
Of the descendants of Levi four thousand and six hundred.
27 エホヤダはアロンの家のつかさで、彼に属する者は三千七百人。
Jehoiada was the leader of the household of Aaron; and with him were three thousand and seven hundred,
28 ザドクは年若い勇士で、彼の氏族から出た将軍は二十二人。
and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father's house twenty-two captains.
29 サウルの同族、ベニヤミンの子孫からは三千人、ベニヤミンびとの多くはなおサウルの家に忠義をつくしていた。
Of the people of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.
30 エフライムの子孫からは二万八百人、皆勇士で、その氏族の名ある人々であった。
Of the people of Ephraim twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers' houses.
31 マナセの半部族からは一万八千人、皆ダビデを王に立てようとして上って来て、名をつらねた者である。
Of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king.
32 イッサカルの子孫からはよく時勢に通じ、イスラエルのなすべきことをわきまえた人々が来た。その長たる者が二百人あって、その兄弟たちは皆その指揮に従った。
Of the people of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their heads were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their commandment.
33 ゼブルンからは五万人、皆訓練を経た軍隊で、もろもろの武具で身をよろい、一心にダビデを助けた者である。
Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, with all kinds of instruments of war, fifty thousand, to help David and were not of double heart.
34 ナフタリからは将たる者一千人および盾とやりをとってこれに従う者三万七千人。
Of Naphtali one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand.
35 ダンびとからは武装した者二万八千六百人。
Of the Danites who could set the battle in array, twenty-eight thousand six hundred.
36 アセルからは戦いの備えをした熟練の者四万人。
Of Asher, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, forty thousand.
37 またヨルダンのかなたルベンびと、ガドびと、マナセの半部族からはもろもろの武具で身をよろった者十二万人であった。
On the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all kinds of instruments of war for the battle, one hundred twenty thousand.
38 すべてこれらの戦いの備えをしたいくさびとらは真心をもってヘブロンに来て、ダビデを全イスラエルの王にしようとした。このほかのイスラエルびともまた、心をひとつにしてダビデを王にしようとした。
All these being men of war, who could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
39 彼らはヘブロンにダビデとともに三日いて、食い飲みした。その兄弟たちは彼らのために備えをしたからである。
They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had made preparation for them.
40 また彼らに近い人々はイッサカル、ゼブルン、ナフタリなどの遠い所の者まで、ろば、らくだ、騾馬、牛などに食物を負わせて来た。すなわち麦粉の食物、干いちじく、干ぶどう、ぶどう酒、油、牛、羊などを多く携えて来た。これはイスラエルに喜びがあったからである。
Moreover those who were near to them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, food of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and cattle, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Israel.
