ヨハネの福音書 8
1 しかしイエスはオリーブ山に行った。
but Jesus went to the mount of Olives.
2 さて，朝早く，彼は再び神殿の中に来た。そして人々はみな彼のもとに来た。彼は座って彼らを教えた。
And early in the morning he came again to the temple, and all the people were coming to him. And he sat down and taught them.
3 律法学者たちとファリサイ人たちが，姦淫の最中に捕まった女を連れて来た。彼女を中央に立たせて，
And the scribes and the Pharisees bring to him a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,
4 彼に告げた，「先生，わたしたちはこの女を姦淫の真っ最中に見つけました。
they say to him, Teacher, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 さて，わたしたちの律法の中で，このような者は石打ちにするよう，モーセはわたしたちに命令しました。あなたは彼女について何と言いますか」。
Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such persons; what then dost thou say?
6 彼らは彼を試して，訴える口実を得るために，このことを言ったのである。 しかしイエスは身をかがめ，指で地面に何か書いていた。
But this they said to try him, that they might be able to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
7 それでも彼らがしつこく尋ねると，目を上げて彼らに言った，「あなた方の間で罪のない者が，この女に向かって最初に石を投げなさい」 。
But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up, and said to them, Let him that is without sin among you first cast a stone at her.
8 再び身をかがめ，指で地面に何か書いていた。
And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 これを聞くと彼らは良心に責められ，年長者から始めて最後の者まで，一人また一人と出て行った。イエスがひとり，真ん中にいる女と共に残された。
And when they heard this, they went out one by one, beginning with the oldest; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman who was in the midst.
10 イエスは立ち上がり，彼女を見て言った，「女よ，あなたの告訴人はどこにいるのか。だれもあなたを罪に定めなかったのか」 。
And Jesus lifted himself up and said to her, Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn thee!
11 彼女は言った，「だれも，主よ」。 イエスは言った，「わたしもあなたを罪に定めない。帰りなさい。今からは，もう罪を犯してはならない」 。
And she said, No one, Lord. And Jesus said, neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more.
12 それでイエスは再び彼らに話して言った，「わたしは世の光だ。わたしに従う者は闇の中を歩くことがなく，命の光を持つことになる」 。
Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.]]
13 それでファリサイ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたは自分について証言している。あなたの証言は正当ではない」。
The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.
14 イエスは彼らに答えた，「たとえわたしが自分について証言するとしても，わたしの証言は真実だ。自分がどこから来たか，そしてどこへ行こうとしているかを知っているからだ。しかしあなた方はわたしがどこから来たか，またどこへ行こうとしているかを知らない。
Jesus answered and said to them, Though I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.
15 あなた方はうわべで裁く。わたしはだれをも裁かない。
Ye judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
16 しかし，わたしが裁くとしても，わたしの裁きは正しい。わたしはひとりではなく，わたしを遣わされた父と共にいるからだ。
But even if I myself should judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and he who sent me.
17 あなた方の律法に，二人の人の証言は正当だと書いてあるとおりだ。
Moreover, it is written in your law, that the witness of two men is true.
18 わたしは自分について証言し，わたしを遣わされた父もわたしについて証言してくださる」 。
I am one who bear witness of myself, and the Father who sent me beareth witness of me.
19 それで彼らは彼に言った，「あなたの父はどこにいるのか」。 イエスは答えた，「あなた方はわたしもわたしの父も知っていない。もしあなた方がわたしを知っていたなら，わたしの父をも知っていただろう」 。
They said therefore to him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father. If ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.
20 神殿の中で教えていた際，宝物殿の中で，イエスはこれらの言葉を語った。それでも，彼を逮捕する者はいなかった。彼の時がまだ来ていなかったからである。
These words he spoke in the treasury, while teaching in the temple; and no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
21 それでイエスは再び彼らに言った，「わたしは去って行こうとしている。そしてあなた方はわたしを探すが，自分の罪のうちに死ぬだろう。わたしが行く所に，あなた方は来ることができない」 。
Again therefore he said to them, I go away, and ye will seek me, and will die in your sin. Whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 それでユダヤ人たちは言った，「彼は自殺するつもりなのだろうか。『わたしが行く所に，あなた方は来ることができない』 と言うのだから」。
The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?
23 彼は彼らに答えた，「あなた方は下からの者だが，わたしは上からの者だ。あなた方はこの世からの者だが，わたしはこの世からの者ではない。
And he said to them, Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 そのためわたしは，あなた方は自分の罪のうちに死ぬだろうと言った。わたしがその者だと信じない限り，あなた方は自分の罪のうちに死ぬからだ」 。
Therefore I said to you, that ye will die in your sins; for unless ye believe that I am He, ye will die in your sins.
25 それで彼らは彼に言った，「あなたはだれなのか」。 イエスは彼らに答えた，「まさしくわたしがはじめからあなた方に言っているものだ。
They said therefore to him, Who art thou? Jesus said to them, In the first place, I am just that which I speak to you.
26 わたしには，あなた方に関して言うべき，また裁くべき事柄がたくさんある。だが，わたしを遣わされた父は真実な方であり，わたしはその方から聞いた事柄を世に対して話すのだ」 。
I have many things to say, and to judge, concerning you; but he who sent me is true; and I speak to the world what I heard from him.
27 彼らは，彼が父について話していることを理解しなかった。
They understood not that he spoke to them of the Father.
28 それでイエスは彼らに言った，「あなた方は，人の子を挙げると，その時，わたしがその者であること，また，わたしが自分からは何も行なうことができず，父が教えてくださったとおりにそれらの事柄を話すことを知るだろう。
Jesus therefore said, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye will know that I am He, and do nothing of myself, but speak these things as the Father taught me.
29 わたしを遣わされた方はわたしと共におられる。父はわたしをひとりで残してはおかれない。わたしはいつでもその方の喜ばれる事を行なうからだ」 。
And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone, for I always do the things that please him.
30 彼がこれらの事柄を話していた際，多くの人が彼を信じた。
As he spoke these words, many believed in him.
31 それでイエスは，自分を信じたそれらのユダヤ人たちに言った，「あなた方がわたしの言葉にとどまるなら，あなた方は本当にわたしの弟子だ。
Jesus therefore said to those Jews who believed in him, If ye continue in my word, ye are truly my disciples;
32 あなた方は真理を知り，真理はあなた方を自由にするだろう」 。
and ye will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
33 彼らは彼に答えた，「わたしたちはアブラハムの子孫であり，だれかの奴隷になったことなど決してない。『あなた方は自由にされる』 と言うのはどうしてか」。
They answered him, We are Abraham's offspring, and have never been in bondage to any one; how sayest, thou, Ye will be made free?
34 イエスは彼らに答えた，「本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。罪を犯す者はみな罪の奴隷だ。
Jesus answered them, Truly, truly do I say to you, Every one that committeth sin is a bond-servant of sin.
And the bond-servant abideth not in the house for ever; the son abideth for ever. (aiōn g165)
36 もし子があなた方を自由にするなら，あなた方は本当に自由になるのだ。
If therefore the Son make you free, ye will be free indeed.
37 わたしはあなた方がアブラハムの子孫であることを知っている。だが，あなた方はわたしを殺そうとしている。わたしの言葉があなた方の内に場所を見いだせないからだ。
I know that ye are Abraham's offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my word is not received within you.
38 わたしは自分の父のもとで見てきた事柄を話している。あなた方も自分たちの父のところで見てきた事柄を行なっている」 。
I speak what I have seen with the Father; and ye accordingly do what ye have seen with your father.
39 彼らは彼に答えた，「我々の父はアブラハムだ」。 イエスは彼らに言った，「もしあなた方がアブラハムの子供であったなら，あなた方はアブラハムの業を行なうだろう。
They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 ところが今，あなた方はわたしを，自分が神から聞いた真理を告げる者を殺そうとしている。アブラハムはこのようなことをしなかった。
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath spoken to you the truth, which I heard from God; this did not Abraham.
41 あなた方は自分たちの父の業を行なっているのだ」。 彼らは彼に言った，「我々は淫行によって生まれたのではない。我々にはただ一人の父，神がおられる」。
Ye do the works of your father. They said to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, God.
42 それでイエスは彼らに言った，「もし神があなた方の父であったなら，あなた方はわたしを愛するだろう。わたしは神のもとから出て来て，ここにいるからだ。わたしは自分の考えで来たのではなく，その方がわたしを遣わされたのだ。
Jesus said to them, If God were your father, ye would love me; for from God I proceeded forth and am come; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 あなた方がわたしの話すことを理解しないのはなぜなのか。それはあなた方がわたしの言葉を聞くことができないからだ。
Why do ye not understand my language? It is because ye cannot listen to my word.
44 あなた方は自分たちの父，悪魔からの者であり，自分たちの父の欲望を行ないたいと思っている。彼ははじめからの人殺しであって，真理の内に立たない。彼の内には真理がないからだ。彼が偽りを語るときには，彼自身のものに従って語る。彼は偽り者であり，偽りの父だからだ。
Ye are of your father the Devil, and what your father desireth ye are ready to do. He was a murderer from the beginning; and he abideth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 しかし，わたしはあなた方に真理を告げるので，あなた方はわたしを信じない。
But because I speak the truth, ye believe me not.
46 あなた方のうちのだれが，わたしに罪があると責めることができるのか。わたしがあなた方に真理を告げているのなら，なぜわたしを信じないのか。
Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I speak truth, Why do ye not believe me?
47 神に属している者は，神の言葉を聞く。この理由であなた方は聞かない。あなた方が神に属していないからだ」 。
He that is of God heareth God's words; for this cause ye do not hear, because ye are not of God.
48 するとユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた，「我々が，あなたはサマリア人で，悪魔に取りつかれていると言うのはもっともではないか」。
The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?
49 イエスは答えた，「わたしは悪魔に取りつかれてはいない。わたしは自分の父を敬うのに，あなた方はわたしを辱める。
Jesus answered, I have not a demon, but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.
50 しかし，わたしは自分の栄光を求めない。それを求め，裁く方がおられる。
But I seek not my own glory; there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
Truly, truly do I say to you, If any one keep my word, he will never see death. (aiōn g165)
52 するとユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたが悪霊に取りつかれていることが今こそ分かった。アブラハムは死に，預言者たちも死んだ。それなのにあなたは，『わたしの言葉を守るなら，その者は決して死を味わうことがない』 と言う。 (aiōn g165)
The Jews said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he will never taste of death. (aiōn g165)
53 あなたは，我々の父アブラハムより偉大なのか。彼は死んだし，預言者たちも死んだ。あなたは自分を何者とするのか」。
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets also died. Whom dost thou make thyself?
54 イエスは答えた，「もしわたしが自分に栄光を与えるなら，わたしの栄光は無意味だ。あなた方が自分たちの神だと言っているのは，わたしに栄光を与えてくださるわたしの父についてなのだ。
Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom ye say, He is our God:
55 あなた方はその方を知っていないが，わたしはその方を知っている。もし『わたしはその方を知らない』と言うなら，わたしはあなた方と同じように偽り者になるだろう。しかしわたしはその方を知っており，その方の言葉を守っている。
yet ye know him not; but I know him. And if I should say, I know him not, I should be a liar like you. But I know him, and keep his word.
56 あなた方の父アブラハムはわたしの日を見ることを喜んだ。彼はそれを見て喜んだ」 。
Your father Abraham exulted that he might see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.
57 それでユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「あなたはまだ五十歳にもなっていないのに，アブラハムを見たことがあるのか」。
The Jews therefore said to him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 イエスは彼らに言った，「本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。アブラハムが生まれる前から，わたしはある」 。
Jesus said to them, Truly, truly do I say to you, From before Abraham was, I have been.
59 そのため彼らは彼に投げつけるために石を拾い上げた。しかしイエスは隠され，神殿から出て行った。彼らの真ん中を通り抜けて行き，そのようにして通り過ぎて行った。
They therefore took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus concealed himself, and went out of the temple.
