ヨハネの福音書 1
1 はじめに言葉があり，言葉は神と共にあり，言葉は神であった。
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 この言葉ははじめに神と共にあった。
The same was in the beginning with God.
3 すべての物は彼を通して造られた。造られた物で，彼によらずに造られた物はなかった。
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 彼の内には命があり，命は人の光であった。
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 光は闇の中で輝くが，闇はそれに打ち勝たなかった。
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 神から遣わされた一人の人が現われた。その名はヨハネであった。
There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
7 この人は証人として来た。光について証言するためであり，それはすべての人が彼を通して信じるためであった。
The same came for a witness, to bear testimony of the Light, that all [men] through him might believe.
8 彼自身は光ではなく，光について証言するために遣わされた。
He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear testimony of that Light.
9 すべての人を啓発する真の光が世に来ようとしていた。
[That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 彼は世におり，世は彼を通して造られたのに，世は彼が分からなかった。
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 彼は自分の所有物のところに来たのに，彼自身の所有物であった者たちは彼を受け入れなかった。
He came to his own, and his own received him not.
12 しかし，彼を受け入れたすべての者たち，その名を信じた者たちに，彼は神の子供となる権利を与えた。
But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
13 すなわち，血によらず，肉によらず，人によらず，神によって生まれた人々である。
Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 言葉は肉となってわたしたちの間に住んだ。わたしたちはその栄光を見た。父のひとり子に属する栄光であって，恵みと真理とに満ちていた。
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
15 ヨハネは彼について証言し，叫んで言った，「この方は，『わたしの後に来る方はわたしよりまさっている。わたしより先にいたからだ』とわたしが言った方だ」。
John testified concerning him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that cometh after me, is preferred before me; for he was before me.
16 わたしたちは皆，彼の充満の中から，恵みの上に恵みを受けた。
And of his fullness have we all received, and grace for grace.
17 というのは，律法はモーセを通して与えられ，恵みと真理とはイエス・キリストを通して来たからだ。
For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 いまだ神を見た者はいない。父の懐にいるひとり子こそ，その方を知らせたのである。
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
19 これは，ユダヤ人たちがエルサレムから祭司たちとレビ人たちを遣わして，「あなたはだれか」と尋ねさせた時の，ヨハネの証言である。
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou?
20 彼は告白して否まず，「わたしはキリストではない」と告白した。
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 彼らは彼に尋ねた，「それでは何か。あなたはエリヤか」。 彼は「そうではない」と言った。 「あなたはあの預言者か」。 彼は「違う」と答えた。
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? and he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 それで彼らは彼に言った，「あなたはだれか。わたしたちを遣わした人たちに答えられるように，わたしたちに答えて欲しい。あなたは自分について何と言うのか」。
Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 彼は言った，「わたしは，預言者イザヤが言ったように，『主の道をまっすぐにせよ』と荒野で叫ぶ者の声だ」。
He said, I [am] the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 遣わされていた者たちはファリサイ人の出であった。
And they who were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 彼らは彼に尋ねた，「あなたがキリストでもエリヤでもあの預言者でもないのなら，なぜバプテスマを施すのか」。
And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
26 ヨハネは彼らに答えた，「わたしは水でバプテスマを施すが，あなた方の知らない方が，あなた方の間に立っている。
John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 わたしの後に来る方で，わたしよりも優れている。わたしはその方のサンダルのひもをほどくにも値しない」。
He it is, who coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoes' latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 これらの事は，ヨルダンの向こうのベタニアで起こった。ヨハネはそこでバプテスマを施していたのである。
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 次の日，彼はイエスが自分の方へ来るのを見て言った，「見よ，世の罪を取り去る神の子羊だ！
The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.
30 この方は，『わたしの後に来る方はわたしよりも優れている。わたしより先にいたからだ』とわたしが言った方だ。
This is he of whom I said, after me cometh a man who is preferred before me; for he was before me.
31 わたしはこの方を知らなかった。だが，この理由でわたしは水でバプテスマを施しに来た。すなわち，この方がイスラエルに示されるためだ」。
And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 ヨハネは証言して言った，「わたしは，霊がハトのように天から下って，この方の上にとどまるのを見た。
And John bore testimony, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 わたしはこの方が分からなかった。だが，水でバプテスマを施すためにわたしを遣わされた方が，わたしに言われた，『だれでも霊が下ってその上にとどまるのを見たなら，その者が聖霊でバプテスマを施す者だ』。
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.
34 わたしは見たので，この方が神の子だということを証言している」。
And I saw and bore testimony, that this is the Son of God.
35 また，次の日，ヨハネは自分の弟子のうちの二人と共に立っていた。
Again the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 彼は歩いているイエスを見つめて言った，「見よ，神の子羊だ！」
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 二人の弟子は彼が話すのを聞いて，イエスに従った。
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 イエスは振り向いて，彼らが付いて来るのを見て，彼らに言った，「あなた方は何を求めているのか」 。 彼らは言った，「ラビ」（訳せば先生ということ），「どこにお泊まりですか」。
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith to them, What seek ye? They said to him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master) where dwellest thou?
39 彼は彼らに言った，「来て，見なさい」 。 彼らは行って，彼がどこに泊まっているかを見た。そして彼らはその日，彼のところに泊まった。それは第十時ごろであった。
He saith to them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 ヨハネから聞いて彼に従った二人のうちの一人は，シモン・ペトロの兄弟アンデレであった。
One of the two who heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 この人は最初に自分の兄弟シモンを見つけて，「わたしたちはメシアを見つけた！」と言った。（メシアとは，訳せばキリストということ。）
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 彼はシモンをイエスのもとに連れて行った。イエスは彼に目をとめて言った，「あなたはヨナの子シモンだ。あなたはケファと呼ばれるだろう」 。（ケファとは，訳せばペトロということ。）
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas; which is, by interpretation, a stone.
43 次の日，イエスはガリラヤに出かけることに決め，フィリポを見つけた。イエスは彼に言った，「わたしに従いなさい」 。
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith to him, follow me.
44 ところでフィリポはベツサイダ，すなわちアンデレやペトロの町の生まれであった。
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 フィリポはナタナエルを見つけて言った，「わたしたちはモーセが律法の中に書き，預言者たちも書いた方を見つけた。すなわちヨセフの子，ナザレのイエスだ」。
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him described by Moses in the law, and by the prophets, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 ナタナエルは彼に言った，「何か良いものがナザレから出ることがあるだろうか」。 フィリポは彼に言った，「来て，見なさい」。
And Nathanael said to him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
47 イエスはナタナエルが自分の方へ来るのを見て，彼についてこう言った。「見よ，本当のイスラエル人，その内に偽りのない人だ！」
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 ナタナエルはイエスに言った，「どうしてわたしを知っておられるのですか」。 イエスは彼に答えた，「フィリポがあなたを呼ぶ前に，あなたがイチジクの木の下にいた時，わたしはあなたを見た」。
Nathanael saith to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 ナタナエルはイエスに答えた, 「ラビ，あなたは神の子です！ あなたはイスラエルの王です！」
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 イエスは彼に答えた，「『あなたがイチジクの木の下にいるのを見た』と，わたしが告げたので信じるのか。あなたはこれより大きな事を見るだろう」 。
Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 彼に言った，「本当にはっきりとあなたに言う。これから先，あなた方は天が開けて，神のみ使いたちが人の子の上に上り下りするのを見るだろう」 。
And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
