使徒の働き 21
1 わたしたちは彼らを振り切って出航すると，コスに直行し，翌日ロードスに着き，そこからパタラに渡った。
And when it came to pass that we were parted from them, and had set sail, we came with a straight course unto Cos, and the next day unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
2 フェニキアに渡る船を見つけたので，それに乗って出航した。
and having found a ship crossing over unto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail.
3 キュプロスが見えてきたが，それを左手に通り過ぎ，シリアに向かって航海を続け，テュロスに着いた。船はここで積み荷を降ろすことになっていたのである。
And when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed unto Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.
4 わたしたちは弟子たちを見つけ出して，そこに七日間滞在した。それらの者たちは，エルサレムに上って行かないようにと霊によってパウロに告げた。
And having found the disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not set foot in Jerusalem.
5 その期間が満ちると，わたしたちは出発して自分たちの旅を続けた。みんなは妻や子供たちと一緒に，町の外までわたしたちを案内してくれた。わたしたちは浜辺にひざまずいて祈った。
And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way, till we were out of the city: and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed,
6 互いに別れを告げた後，わたしたちは船に乗り込み，彼らは家に帰って行った。
and bade each other farewell; and we went on board the ship, but they returned home again.
7 わたしたちはテュロスから航海を終えてプトレマイスに着いた。兄弟たちにあいさつをして，彼らと共に一日過ごした。
And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and we saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.
8 翌日，わたしたちパウロの一行は出発し，カエサレアに行った。 あの七人のうちの一人である福音伝道者フィリポの家に入り，彼と共に過ごした。
And on the morrow we departed, and came unto Caesarea: and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abode with him.
9 ところで，この人には処女の娘が四人いて，預言をしていた。
Now this man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
10 わたしたちがそこに幾日か滞在していると，アガボスという名の預言者がユダヤから下って来た。
And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
11 わたしたちのもとに来て，パウロの帯を取り，自分の両足と両手を縛ってこう言った，「聖霊がこのように言われる。『ユダヤ人たちはエルサレムで，この帯の持ち主を同じように縛って，彼を異邦人たちの手に引き渡すだろう』」。
And coming to us, and taking Paul’s girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
12 これを聞くと，わたしたちも土地の人々も，エルサレムに上って行かないよう彼に懇願した。
And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
13 するとパウロは答えた，「泣いたり，わたしの心をくじいたりして，いったいどうしようというのですか。わたしは主イエスの名のため，エルサレムで縛られることばかりか，死ぬことさえも覚悟しているのです」。
Then Paul answered, What do ye, weeping and breaking my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
14 彼が説得を聞き入れようとしないので，わたしたちは，「主のご意志がなりますように」と言って，口をつぐんだ。
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
15 こうした日々ののち，わたしたちは荷物を手に取ってエルサレムに上って行った。
And after these days we took up our baggage, and went up to Jerusalem.
16 カエサレアから来た数人の弟子たちもわたしたちと一緒に来て，キュプロスのムナソンという古くからの弟子のところに案内した。わたしたちはそこに泊まることになっていたのである。
And there went with us also [certain] of the disciples from Caesarea, bringing [with them] one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.
17 わたしたちがエルサレムに着くと，兄弟たちは喜んでわたしたちを出迎えた。
And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.
18 次の日，パウロはわたしたちと共にヤコブのところに行った。長老たちも皆出席していた。
And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.
19 彼は彼らにあいさつをしたのち，自分の奉仕を通して神が異邦人たちの間で行なった事柄を次々に報告した。
And when he had saluted them, he rehearsed one by one the things which God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
20 これを聞いて彼らは神に栄光をささげた。彼らは彼に言った，「兄弟，ご承知のように，ユダヤ人たちの中で信者になった者が幾万人もいますが，彼らはみな律法に熱心です。
And they, when they heard it, glorified God; and they said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of them which have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:
21 彼らがあなたについて聞かされているのは，あなたが異邦人たちの間にいるすべてのユダヤ人たちに対し，子供に割礼を施したり，慣習に従って歩んだりしないようにと告げて，モーセを破棄するよう教えているということです。
and they have been informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
22 それで，どうすればよいでしょうか。あなたが来ていることを聞いて，きっと集会がつどうでしょう。
What is it therefore? they will certainly hear that thou art come.
23 ですから，わたしたちの言うとおりにしてください。わたしたちには誓願を立てた四人の人たちがいます。
Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;
24 彼らを連れて行って，一緒に身を清め，彼らのために頭をそる費用を出してやりなさい。そうすれば，あなたについて聞かされている事柄が事実ではなく，あなた自身も律法を守って歩んでいることを，みんなが知るでしょう。
these take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges for them, that they may shave their heads: and all shall know that there is no truth in the things whereof they have been informed concerning thee; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, keeping the law.
25 それでも，信者になった異邦人たちについては，偶像にささげられた食物と，血と，絞め殺されたものと，淫行から身を守るべきことを除いては，いかなることも守り行なう必要はないというわたしたちの決定を書き送ってあります」。
But as touching the Gentiles which have believed, we wrote, giving judgment that they should keep themselves from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication.
26 そこで，パウロはその者たちを連れて行き，翌日，一緒に身を清めて神殿に入り，清めの期間が満ちてひとりひとりのためにささげ物がささげられる日時を申告した。
Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.
27 七日の期間が間もなく終わろうとしていた時，アシアから来たユダヤ人たちが，彼が神殿にいるのを見て，全群衆を扇動して彼に手をかけ，
And when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude, and laid hands on him,
28 叫んで言った，「イスラエルの人たち，手伝ってくれ！ この男は至るところであらゆる者に，民と律法とこの場所に反することを教えている。その上，ギリシャ人たちを神殿に連れ込んで，この聖なる場所を汚すことまでしたのだ！」
crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and moreover he brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place.
29 エフェソス人トロフィモスが都で彼と一緒にいたのを見たので，パウロが彼を神殿に連れ込んだものと思ったのである。
For they had before seen with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.
30 都全体が騒動になり，民は駆け寄って来た。人々はパウロを捕らえ，神殿の外に引きずり出した。すぐに門が閉ざされた。
And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: and straightway the doors were shut.
31 人々が彼を殺そうとしていると，エルサレム中が大騒ぎになっているとの知らせが連隊の司令官のところに届いた。
And as they were seeking to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in confusion.
32 すぐに彼は兵士たちと百人隊長たちを率いて，彼らのもとに駆け下った。人々は大隊長と兵士たちを見ると，パウロを打つのをやめた。
And forthwith he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down upon them: and they, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, left off beating Paul.
33 それから司令官は近づいて来て彼を逮捕し，二本の鎖で縛るよう命じ，彼が何者で，何をしたのかを尋ねた。
Then the chief captain came near, and laid hold on him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and inquired who he was, and what he had done.
34 群衆の間では，ある者たちが何かを叫べば，別の者たちは違うことを叫んでいた。騒がしくて真相をつかむことができないので，司令官は彼を兵営に引いて行くよう命じた。
And some shouted one thing, some another, among the crowd: and when he could not know the certainty for the uproar, he commanded him to be brought into the castle.
35 彼が階段に差し掛かった時には，群衆の暴行のため，兵士たちに担がれるほどであった。
And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the crowd;
36 大勢の民が，「彼を取り除け！」と叫びながら，後を付いて来たからである。
for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, Away with him.
37 兵営に連れ込まれようとした時，パウロは司令官に尋ねた，「お話ししてもよろしいでしょうか」。 彼は言った，「お前はギリシャ人なのか。
And as Paul was about to be brought into the castle, he saith unto the chief captain, May I say something unto thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?
38 するとお前は，この前反乱を起こして，四千人の暗殺者たちを引き連れて荒野に行った，あのエジプト人ではないのか」。
Art thou not then the Egyptian, which before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins?
39 しかしパウロは言った，「わたしはタルソス生まれのユダヤ人で，キリキアのれっきとした町の市民です。お願いします，あの民に話すことを許してください」。
But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee, give me leave to speak unto the people.
40 司令官が彼に許可を与えたので，パウロは階段に立ち，民を手で制した。すっかり静かになると，ヘブライ語で彼らに語りかけてこう言った。
And when he had given him leave, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with the hand unto the people; and when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew language, saying,
