民数記 13
1 茲にヱホバ、モーセに告て言たまはく
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
2 汝人を遣して我がイスラエルの子孫に與ふるカナンの地を窺はしめよ即ち支派ごとに一人を取て之を遣すべし其人々は皆かれらの中の牧伯たる者なるべし
Send you men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a ruler among them.
3 モーセすなはちヱホバの命にしたがひてバランの曠野よりこれを遣せりその人等は皆イスラエルの子孫の領袖たる者なり
And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
4 その名は是のごとしルベンの支派にてはザックルの子シヤンマ
And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
5 シメオンの支派にてはホリの子シヤパテ
Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
6 ユダの支派にてはエフンネの子カルブ
Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7 イッサカルの支派にてはヨセフの子イガル
Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
8 エフライムの支派にてはヌンの子ホセア
Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
9 ベニヤミンの支派にてはラフの子パルテ
Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
10 ゼブルンの支派にてはソデの子ガデエル
Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
11 ヨセフの支派すなはちマナセの支派にてはスシの子ガデ
Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
12 ダンの支派にではゲマリの子アンミエル
Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
13 アセルの支派にてはミカエルの子セトル
Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
14 ナフタリの支派にてはワフシの子ナヘビ
Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15 ガドの支派にてはマキの子ギウエル
Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16 是すなはちモーセがその地を窺はしめんとて遣したる人々の名なり時にモーセ、ヌンの子ホセアをヨシユアと名けたり
These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
17 モーセかれらを遣はしてカナンの地を窺はしめんとして之に言けるは汝等その南の方に赴きて山に登り
And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
18 その地の如何と其處に住む民の強か弱か多か寡かを觀
And see the land, what it is, and the people that dwells therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
19 またその住ところの地は善か惡か其住ところの邑々は如何なるものなるか彼等は天幕に住をるか城の邑に住をるかを觀
And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
20 またその地は腴なるか痩たるか其中に樹あるや否を觀よ汝等勇しかれその地の果物を携へきたれよとこの時は葡萄の熟し始むる時なりき
And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be you of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.
21 是において彼等上りゆきてその地を窺ひチンの曠野よりレホブにおよべり是はハマテに近し
So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
22 彼等すなはち南の方に上りゆきてヘブロンにいたれり此にはアナクの子アヒマン、セシヤイおよびタルマイあり(ヘブロンはエジプトのゾアンよりも七年前に建たる者なり)
And they ascended by the south, and came to Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 彼らつひにエシコルの谷にいたり其處より一球の葡萄のなれる枝を砍とりてこれを杠に貫き二人してこれを擔へりまた石榴と無花果を取り
And they came to the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two on a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
24 イスラエルの子孫其處より葡萄一球を砍とりしが故にその處をエシコル(一球の葡萄)の谷と稱ふ
The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from there.
25 彼ら四十日を經その地を窺ふことを竟て歸り
And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
26 パランの曠野なるカデシに至りてモーセとアロンおよびイスラエルの子孫の全會衆に就きかれらと全會衆にその復命を申しその地の果物をこれに見せり
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 彼等すなはちモーセに語りて言ふ我等は汝が遣しし地にいたれり誠に其處は乳と蜜とながる是その果物なり
And they told him, and said, We came to the land where you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28 然ながらその地に住む民は猛くその邑々は堅固にして甚だ大なり我等またアナクの子孫の其處にをるを見たり
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29 またアマレキ人その南の地に住みヘテ人エブス人およびアモリ人その山々に住みカナン人その海邊とヨルダンの邊に住をると
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
30 時にカルブ、モーセの前に民を靜めて言けるは我等直に上りゆきて之を攻取ん我等は必ずこれに勝ことを得ん
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 然ど彼とともに往たる人々は言ふ我等はかの民の所に攻上ることを得ず彼らは我らよりも強ければなりと
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32 彼等すなはちその窺ひたりし地の事をイスラエルの子孫の中に惡く言ふらして云く我等が行巡りて窺ひたる地は其中に住む者を呑ほろぼす地なり且またその中に我等が見し民はみな身幹たかき人なりし
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched to the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 我等またアナクの子ネピリムを彼處に見たり是ネピリムより出たる者なり我儕は自ら見るに蝗のごとくまた彼らにも然見なされたり
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
