マタイの福音書 3
1 その頃バプテスマのヨハネ來り、ユダヤの荒野にて教を宣べて言ふ
In those days appeared John the Immerser, who proclaimed in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2 『なんぢら悔改めよ、天國は近づきたり』
Reform, for the Reign of Heaven approaches.
3 これ預言者イザヤによりて、斯く云はれし人なり、曰く『荒野に呼はる者の聲す「主の道を備へ、その路すぢを直くせよ」』
For this is he, of whom the Prophet Isaiah speaks in these words, "The voice of one proclaiming in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord, make for him a straight passage."
4 このヨハネは駱駝の毛織衣をまとひ、腰に皮の帶をしめ、蝗と野蜜とを食とせり。
Now John wore raiment of camel's hair with a letter girdle about his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 ここにエルサレム及びユダヤ全國、またヨルダンの邊なる全地方の人々、ヨハネの許に出できたり、
Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the country along the Jordan, resorted to him,
6 罪を言ひ表し、ヨルダン川にてバプテスマを受けたり。
and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 ヨハネ、パリサイ人およびサドカイ人のバプテスマを受けんとて、多く來るを見て、彼らに言ふ『蝮の裔よ、誰が汝らに、來らんとする御怒を避くべき事を示したるぞ。
But he seeing many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to receive immersion, said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has prompted you to flee from the impending vengeance?
8 さらば悔改に相應しき果を結べ。
Produce, then, the proper fruit of reformation;
9 汝ら「われらの父にアブラハムあり」と心のうちに言はんと思ふな。我なんぢらに告ぐ、神は此らの石よりアブラハムの子らを起し得給ふなり。
and presume not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father, for I assure you, that of these stones God can raise children to Abraham.
10 斧ははや樹の根に置かる。されば凡て善き果を結ばぬ樹は、伐られて火に投げ入れらるべし。
And even now the ax lies at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which produces not good fruit, is cut down, and turned into fuel.
11 我は汝らの悔改のために、水にてバプテスマを施す。されど我より後にきたる者は、我よりも能力あり、我はその鞋をとるにも足らず、彼は聖 靈と火とにて汝らにバプテスマを施さん。
I, indeed, immerse you in water, into reformation; but he who comes after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and in fire.
12 手には箕を持ちて禾場をきよめ、その麥は倉に納め、殼は消えぬ火にて燒きつくさん』
His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his grain; he will gather his wheat into the granary, and consume the chaff in unquenchable fire.
13 ここにイエス、ヨハネにバプテスマを受けんとて、ガリラヤよりヨルダンに來り給ふ。
Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, to be immersed by John.
14 ヨハネ之を止めんとして言ふ『われは汝にバプテスマを受くべき者なるに、反つて我に來り給ふか』
But John excused himself, saying, It is I who need to be immersed by you; and you come to me!
15 イエス答へて言ひたまふ『今は許せ、われら斯く正しき事をことごとく爲遂ぐるは、當然なり』ヨハネ乃ち許せり。
Jesus answering, said to him, Permit this at present; for thus ought we to ratify every institution. Then John acquiesced.
16 イエス、バプテスマを受けて直ちに水より上り給ひしとき、視よ、天ひらけ、神の御靈の、鴿のごとく降りて己が上にきたるを見 給ふ。
Jesus being immersed, no sooner arose out of the water, than heaven was opened to him; and the Spirit of God appeared, descending like a dove, and lighting upon him;
17 また天より聲あり、曰く『これは我が愛しむ子、わが悦ぶ者なり』
while a voice from heaven proclaimed, This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I delight.
