ヨナ書 3
1 ヱホバの言ふたたびヨナに臨めり 曰く
And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2 起てかの大なる府ニネベに往きわが汝に命ずるところを宣よ
Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 ヨナすなはちヱホバの言に循ひて起てニネベに往り ニネベは甚だ大なる邑にしてこれをめぐるに三日を歴る程なり
So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4 ヨナその邑に入はじめ一日路を行つつ呼はり曰けるは四十日を歴ばニネベは滅亡さるべし
And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 かかりしかばニネベの人々神を信じ斷食を宣れ大なる者より小き者に至るまでみな麻布を衣たり
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 この言ニネベの王に聞えければ彼 位より起ち朝服を脱ぎ麻布を身に纒ふて灰の中に坐せり
For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered [him] with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 また王大臣とともに命をくだしてニネベ中に宣しめて曰く人も畜も牛も羊もともに何をも味ふべからず 又物をくらひ水を飮べからず
And he caused [it] to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 人も畜も麻布をまとひ只管神に呼はり且おのおの其惡き途および其手に作す邪惡を離るべし
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands.
9 或は神その聖旨をかへて悔い其烈しき怒を息てわれらを滅亡さざらん 誰かその然らざるを知んや
Who can tell [if] God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 神かれらの爲すところをかんがみ其あしき途を離るるを見そなはし彼等になさんと言し所の災禍を悔て之をなしたまはざりき
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did [it] not.
