ヤコブの手紙 2
1 わが兄弟よ、榮光の主なる我らの主イエス・キリストに對する信仰を保たんには、人を偏り視るな。
My brothers, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2 金の指輪をはめ華美なる衣を著たる人、なんぢらの會堂に入りきたり、また粗末なる衣を著たる貧しき者いり來らんに、
For if there come to your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
3 汝 等その華美なる衣を著たる人を重んじ視て『なんぢ此の善き處に坐せよ』と言ひ、また貧しき者に『なんぢ彼處に立つか、又はわが足下に坐せよ』と言はば、
And you have respect to him that wears the gay clothing, and say to him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 汝らの中にて區別をなし、また惡しき思をもてる審判 人となるに非ずや。
Are you not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
5 わが愛する兄弟よ、聽け、神は世の貧しき者を選びて信仰に富ませ、神を愛する者に約束し給ひし國の世繼たらしめ給ひしに非ずや。
Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?
6 然るに汝らは貧しき者を輕んじたり、汝らを虐げ、また裁判所に曳くものは、富める者にあらずや。
But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 彼らは汝らの上に稱へらるる尊き名を汚すものに非ずや。
Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called?
8 汝 等もし聖書にある『おのれの如く汝の隣を愛すべし』との尊き律法を全うせば、その爲すところ善し。
If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well:
9 されど若し人を偏り視れば、これ罪を行ふなり。律法、なんぢらを犯罪者と定めん。
But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10 人、律法 全體を守るとも、その一つに躓かば是すべてを犯すなり。
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 それ『姦淫する勿れ』と宣ひし者、また『殺す勿れ』と宣ひたれば、なんぢ姦淫せずとも、若し人を殺さば律法を破る者となるなり、
For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law.
12 なんぢら自由の律法によりて審かれんとする者のごとく語り、かつ行ふべし。
So speak you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 憐憫を行はぬ者は憐憫なき審判を受けん、憐憫は審判にむかひて勝ち誇るなり。
For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.
14 わが兄弟よ、人みづから信仰ありと言ひて、もし行爲なくば何の益かあらん、かかる信仰は彼を救ひ得んや。
What does it profit, my brothers, though a man say he has faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 もし兄弟 或は姉妹、裸體にて日用の食物に乏しからんとき、
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 汝 等のうち、或 人これに『安らかにして往け、温かなれ、飽くことを得よ』といひて體に無くてならぬ物を與へずば、何の益かあらん。
And one of you say to them, Depart in peace, be you warmed and filled; notwithstanding you give them not those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?
17 斯くのごとく信仰もし行爲なくば、死にたる者なり。
Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone.
18 人もまた言はん『なんぢ信仰あり、われ行爲あり、汝の行爲なき信仰を我に示せ、我わが行爲によりて信仰を汝に示さん』と。
Yes, a man may say, You have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 なんぢ神は唯一なりと信ずるか、かく信ずるは善し、惡鬼も亦 信じて慄けり。
You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 ああ虚しき人よ、なんぢ行爲なき信仰の徒然なるを知らんと欲するか。
But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 我らの父アブラハムはその子イサクを祭壇に献げしとき、行爲によりて義とせられたるに非ずや。
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22 なんぢ見るべし、その信仰、行爲と共にはたらき、行爲によりて全うせられたるを。
See you how faith worked with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 またアブラハム神を信じ、その信仰を義と認められたりと云へる聖書は成就し、かつ彼は神の友と稱へられたり。
And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 かく人の義とせらるるは、ただ信仰のみに由らずして行爲に由ることは、汝らの見る所なり。
You see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 また遊女ラハブも使者を受け、これを他の途より去らせたるとき、行爲によりて義とせられたるに非ずや。
Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 靈魂なき體の死にたる者なるが如く、行爲なき信仰も死にたるものなり。
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
