申命記 19

1 汝の神ヱホバこの國々の民を滅し絶ち汝の神ヱホバこれが地を汝に賜ふて汝つひにこれを獲その邑々とその家々に住にいたる時は

When Jehovah your God shall cut off the nations, whose land Jehovah your God gives you, and you succeed them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses;

2 汝の神ヱホバの汝に與へて產業となさしめたまふ地の中に三の邑を汝のために區別べし

you shall set apart three cities for you in the midst of your land, which Jehovah your God gives you to possess it.

3 而して汝これに道路を開きまた汝の神ヱホバの汝に與へて產業となさしめたまふ地の全體を三の區に分ち凡て人を殺せる者をして其處に逃れしむべし

You shall prepare you the way, and divide the borders of your land, which Jehovah your God causes you to inherit, into three parts, that every manslayer may flee there.

4 人を殺せる者の彼處に逃れて生命を全うすべきその事は是のごとし即ち凡て素より惡むことも無く知ずしてその鄰人を殺せる者

This is the case of the manslayer, that shall flee there and live: whoever kills his neighbor unawares, and did not hate him in time past;

5 例ば人木を伐んとてその鄰人とともに林に入り手に斧を執て木を斫んと撃おろす時にその頭の鐵柯より脱てその鄰人にあたりて之を死しめたるが如き是なり斯る人は是等の邑の一に逃れて生命を全うすべし

as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood, and his hand fetches a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle, and lights on his neighbor, so that he dies; he shall flee to one of these cities and live:

6 恐くは復仇する者心熱してその殺人者を追かけ道路長きにおいては遂に追しきて之を殺さん然るにその人は素より之を惡みたる者にあらざれば殺さるべき理あらざるなり

lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and strike him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he did not hate him in time past.

7 是をもて我なんぢに命じて三の邑を汝のために區別べしと言り

Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for yourselves.

8 汝の神ヱホバ汝の先祖等に誓ひしごとく汝の境界を廣め汝の先祖等に與へんと言し地を盡く汝に賜ふにいたらん時

If Jehovah your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;

9 即ち汝我が今日なんぢに命ずるこの一切の誡命を守りてこれを行なひ汝の神ヱホバを愛し恒にその道に歩まん時はこの三の外にまた三の邑を増加ふべし

if you keep all this commandment to do it, which I command you this day, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk ever in his ways; then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, besides these three:

10 是汝の神ヱホバの汝に與へて產業となさしめたまふ地に辜なき者の血を流すこと無らんためなり斯せずばその血汝に歸せん

that innocent blood not be shed in the midst of your land, which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance, and so blood be on you.

11 然どもし人その隣人を惡みて之を附覘ひ起かかり撃てその生命を傷ひて之を死しめ而してこの邑の一に逃れたる事あらば

But if any man hates his neighbor, and lies in wait for him, and rises up against him, and strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;

12 その邑の長老等人を遣て之を其處より曳きたらしめ復仇者の手にこれを付して殺さしむべし

then the elders of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

13 汝かれを憫み視るべからず辜なき者の血を流せる咎をイスラエルより除くべし然せば汝に福祉あらん

Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall put away the innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

14 汝の神ヱホバの汝に與へて獲させたまふ地の中において汝が嗣ぐところの產業に汝の先人の定めたる汝の鄰の地界を侵すべからず

You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, in the land that Jehovah your God gives you to possess it.

15 何の惡にもあれ凡てその犯すところの罪は只一人の證人によりて定むべからず二人の證人の口によりまたは三人の證人の口によりてその事を定むべし

One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sins: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall every word be established.

16 もし偽妄の證人起りて某の人は惡事をなせりと言たつること有ば

If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,

17 その相爭ふ二人の者ヱホバの前に至り當時の祭司と士師の前に立べし

then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

18 然る時士師詳細にこれを査べ視るにその證人もし偽妄の證人にしてその兄弟にむかひて虚妄の證をなしたる者なる時は

and the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, look, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother;

19 汝兄弟に彼が蒙らさんと謀れる所を彼に蒙らし斯して汝らの中より惡事を除くべし

then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

20 然せばその遺れる者等聞て畏れその後かさねて斯る惡き事を汝らの中におこなはじ

Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall hereafter commit no more any such evil in the midst of you.

21 汝憫み視ることをすべからず生命は生命眼は眼歯は歯手は手足は足をもて償はしむべし

Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
