Salmi 60

1 Per il Capo de’ musici. Su “il giglio della testimonianza”. Inno di Davide da insegnare; quand’egli mosse guerra ai Siri di Mesopotamia e ai Siri di Soba e Joab tornò, e sconfisse 12.000 Idumei nella valle del Sale. O Dio, tu ci hai rigettati, ci hai dispersi, tu ti sei adirato; deh, ci ristabilisci!

For the end, for them that shall yet be changed; for an inscription by David for instruction, when he [had] burnt Mesopotamia of Syria, and Syria Sobal, and Joab [had] returned and struck [in] the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, you have rejected and destroyed us; you have been angry, yet have pitied us.

2 Tu hai fatto tremare la terra, tu l’hai schiantata; restaura le sue rotture, perché vacilla.

You have shaken the earth, and troubled it; heal its breaches, for it has been shaken.

3 Tu hai fatto vedere al tuo popolo cose dure; tu ci hai dato a bere un vino che stordisce.

You have shown your people hard things: you has made us drink the wine of astonishment.

4 Ma tu hai dato a quelli che ti temono una bandiera, perché si levino in favor della verità. (Sela)

You have given a token to them that fear you, that they might flee from the bow. (Pause)

5 Perché i tuoi diletti sian liberati, salvaci con la tua destra e rispondici.

That your beloved ones may be delivered; save with your right hand, and hear me.

6 Iddio ha parlato nella sua santità: Io trionferò, spartirò Sichem e misurerò la valle di Succot.

God has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, and divide Sicima, and measure out the valley of tents.

7 Mio è Galaad e mio è Manasse, ed Efraim è la forte difesa del mio capo; Giuda è il mio scettro.

Galaad is mine, and Manasse is mine; and Ephraim is the strength of my head;

8 Moab è il bacino dove mi lavo; sopra Edom getterò il mio sandalo; o Filistia, fammi delle acclamazioni!

Judas is my king; Moab is the cauldron of my hope; over Idumea will I stretch out my shoe; the Philistines have been subjected to me.

9 Chi mi condurrà nella città forte? Chi mi menerà fino in Edom?

Who will lead me into the fortified city? who will guide me as far a Idumea?

10 Non sarai tu, o Dio, che ci hai rigettati e non esci più, o Dio, coi nostri eserciti?

Will not you, O God, who have cast us off? and will not you, O God, go forth with our forces?

11 Dacci aiuto per uscir dalla distretta, poiché vano è il soccorso dell’uomo.

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the deliverance of man.

12 Con Dio noi faremo prodezze, ed egli schiaccerà i nostri nemici.

In God will we do valiantly; and he shall bring to nothing them that harass us.
