Salmi 55

1 Per il Capo de’ musici. Per strumenti a corda. Cantico di Davide. Porgi orecchio alla mia preghiera o Dio, e non rifiutar di udir la mia supplicazione.

God, listen to my prayer, and do not turn away from me while I am pleading with you.

2 Attendi a me, e rispondimi; io non ho requie nel mio lamento, e gemo,

Listen to me, and answer me, because I am overwhelmed by [all] my troubles.

3 per la voce del nemico, per l’oppressione dell’empio; poiché mi gettano addosso delle iniquità e mi perseguitano con furore.

My enemies cause me to be terrified; wicked people oppress me. They cause me to have great troubles; they are angry with me, and they hate me.

4 Il mio cuore spasima dentro di me e spaventi mortali mi son caduti addosso.

I am terrified, and I am very much afraid that I will die.

5 Paura e tremito m’hanno assalito, e il terrore mi ha sopraffatto;

I am very fearful and I tremble/shake, and I am completely terrified.

6 onde ho detto: Oh avess’io delle ali come la colomba! Me ne volerei via, e troverei riposo.

I said, “I wish that I had wings like a dove! If I had wings, I would fly away and find a place to rest.

7 Ecco, me ne fuggirei lontano, andrei a dimorar nel deserto; (Sela)

I would fly far away and live in the desert.

8 m’affretterei a ripararmi dal vento impetuoso e dalla tempesta.

I would quickly find a shelter from [my enemies] [who are like] [MET] a strong wind and rainstorm.”

9 Annienta, Signore, dividi le loro lingue, poiché io vedo violenza e rissa nella città.

Lord, confuse my enemies, and cause their plans to fail, because I see them acting violently and causing strife in the city [of Jerusalem].

10 Giorno e notte essi fanno la ronda sulle sue mura; dentro di essa sono iniquità e vessazioni.

During [each] day and night they march around on top of its walls, committing crimes and causing trouble.

11 Malvagità è in mezzo a lei, violenza e frode non si dipartono dalle sue piazze.

They destroy [things] everywhere. They oppress and defraud [people] in the (marketplaces/public squares).

12 Poiché non è stato un nemico che mi ha fatto vituperio; altrimenti, l’avrei comportato; non è stato uno che m’odiasse a levarmisi contro; altrimenti, mi sarei nascosto da lui;

If it were an enemy who was making fun of me, I could endure it. If it were someone who hates me, who despises me, I could hide from him.

13 ma sei stato tu, l’uomo ch’io stimavo come mio pari, il mio compagno e il mio intimo amico.

But it is someone who is just like me, my companion, someone who was my friend [who is doing this to me].

14 Insieme avevamo dolci colloqui, insieme ce n’andavamo tra la folla alla casa di Dio.

We previously had many good talks together; we walked around together in God’s temple.

15 Li sorprenda la morte! Scendano vivi nel soggiorno de’ morti! poiché nelle lor dimore e dentro di loro non v’è che malvagità. (Sheol h7585)

I desire/hope that my enemies will die suddenly; while they are still young, cause them to go down to the place where the dead people are. They they think evil things. (Sheol h7585)

16 Quanto a me: io griderò, a Dio e l’Eterno mi salverà.

But I [will] ask Yahweh, [my] God, to help me, and he will save me.

17 La sera, la mattina e sul mezzodì mi lamenterò e gemerò, ed egli udrà la mia voce.

[Each] morning and [each] noontime and [each] evening I tell him what I am concerned about, and I moan, and he hears my voice.

18 Egli darà pace all’anima mia, riscuotendola dall’assalto che m’è dato, perché sono in molti contro di me.

I have [very] many enemies, but he will rescue me and bring me back safely from the battles that I fight.

19 Iddio udirà e li umilierà, egli che siede sul trono ab antico; (Sela) poiché in essi non v’è mutamento, e non temono Iddio.

God is the one who has ruled everything forever, and he will listen to me. He will cause my enemies to be [defeated and] disgraced, because they do not change their evil behavior and they do not revere God.

20 Il nemico ha steso la mano contro quelli ch’erano in pace con lui, ha violato il patto concluso.

My companion, [whom I mentioned previously], betrayed his friends and broke the agreement that he made with them.

21 La sua bocca è più dolce del burro, ma nel cuore ha la guerra; le sue parole son più morbide dell’olio, ma sono spade sguainate.

What he said was [easy to listen to, like] butter [is easy to swallow] [MET], but in his inner being he hated people; his words were [soothing] like [olive] oil, [but they hurt people like] sharp swords do [MET].

22 Getta sull’Eterno il tuo peso, ed egli ti sosterrà; egli non permetterà mai che il giusto sia smosso.

Put your troubles in Yahweh’s hands, and he will take care of you; he will never allow righteous [people] to experience disasters.

23 Ma tu, o Dio, farai cader costoro nel profondo della fossa; gli uomini di sangue e di frode non arriveranno alla metà de’ lor giorni; ma io confiderò in te.

God, you will cause murderers [MTY] and liars to die before they have lived half as long as they expect to live; but [as for me], I will trust in you.
