Salmi 44
1 Al capo de’ musici. Dei figliuoli di Core. Cantico. O Dio, noi abbiamo udito coi nostri orecchi, i nostri padri ci hanno raccontato l’opera che compisti ai loro giorni, ai giorni antichi.
For the end, a Psalm for instruction, for the sons of Core. O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, the work which thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old.
2 Tu con la tua mano scacciasti le nazioni e stabilisti i nostri padri; distruggesti dei popoli per estender loro.
Thine hand utterly destroyed the heathen, and thou didst plant them: thou didst afflict the nations, and cast them out.
3 Poiché essi non conquistarono il paese con la loro spada, né fu il loro braccio che li salvò, ma la tua destra, il tuo braccio, la luce del tuo volto, perché li gradivi.
For they inherited not the land by their [own] sword, and their [own] arm did not deliver them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou wert well pleased in them.
4 Tu sei il mio re, o Dio, ordina la salvezza di Giacobbe!
Thou art indeed my King and my God, who commandest deliverances for Jacob.
5 Con te noi abbatteremo i nostri nemici, nel tuo nome calpesteremo quelli che si levan contro a noi.
In thee will we push down our enemies, and in thy name will we bring to nought them that rise up against us.
6 Poiché non è nel mio arco che io confido, e non è la mia spada che mi salverà;
For I will not trust in my bow, and my sword shall not save me.
7 ma sei tu che ci salvi dai nostri nemici e rendi confusi quelli che ci odiano.
For thou hast saved us from them that afflicted us, and hast put to shame them that hated us.
8 In Dio noi ci glorieremo, ogni giorno e celebreremo il tuo nome in perpetuo. (Sela)
In God will we make our boast all the day, and to thy name will we give thanks for ever. (Pause)
9 Ma ora ci hai reietti e coperti d’onta, e non esci più coi nostri eserciti.
But now thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and thou wilt not go forth with our hosts.
10 Tu ci fai voltar le spalle davanti al nemico, e quelli che ci odiano ci depredano.
Thou hast turned us back before our enemies; and they that hated us spoiled for themselves.
11 Ci hai dati via come pecore da mangiare, e ci hai dispersi fra le nazioni.
Thou madest us as sheep for meat; and thou scatteredst us among the nations.
12 Tu vendi il tuo popolo per un nulla, e non ti sei tenuto alto nel fissarne il prezzo.
Thou hast sold thy people without price, and there was no profit by their exchange.
13 Tu ci fai oggetto d’obbrobrio per i nostri vicini, di beffe e di scherno per quelli che ci stan d’intorno.
Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision them that are round about us.
14 Tu ci rendi la favola delle nazioni, e i popoli scuotono il capo, quando si tratta di noi.
Thou hast made us a proverb among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the nations.
15 Tuttodì l’onta mia mi sta dinanzi, e la vergogna mi cuopre la faccia
All the day my shame is before me, and the confusion of my face has covered me,
16 all’udire chi mi vitupera e m’oltraggia, al vedere il nemico ed il vendicativo.
because of the voice of the slanderer and reviler; because of the enemy and avenger.
17 Tutto questo ci è avvenuto. Eppure non t’abbiam dimenticato e non siamo stati infedeli al tuo patto.
All these things are come upon us: but we have not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt unrighteously in thy covenant.
18 Il nostro cuore non si è rivolto indietro, e i nostri passi non si sono sviati dal tuo sentiero,
And our heart has not gone back; but thou hast turned aside our paths from thy way.
19 perché tu ci avessi a fiaccare cacciandoci in dimore di sciacalli, perché tu avessi a stender su noi l’ombra della morte.
For thou hast laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.
20 Se avessimo dimenticato il nome del nostro Dio, e avessimo teso le mani verso un dio straniero,
If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread out our hands to a strange god; shall not God search these things out?
21 Dio non l’avrebbe egli scoperto? Poich’egli conosce i segreti del cuore.
for he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Anzi è per cagion tua che siamo ogni dì messi a morte, e reputati come pecore da macello.
For, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for slaughter.
23 Risvegliati! Perché dormi, o Signore? Destati, non rigettarci in perpetuo!
Awake, wherefore sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and do not cast [us] off for ever.
24 Perché nascondi la tua faccia e dimentichi la nostra afflizione e la nostra oppressione?
Wherefore turnest thou thy face away, [and] forgettest our poverty and our affliction?
25 Poiché l’anima nostra è abbattuta nella polvere; il nostro corpo aderisce alla terra.
For our soul has been brought down to the dust; our belly has cleaved to the earth.
26 Lèvati in nostro aiuto, e liberaci, per amor della tua benignità.
Arise, O Lord, help us, and redeem us for thy name's sake.
