1 Al Capo de’ musici. Per strumenti a corda. Salmo di Davide. Quand’io grido, rispondimi, o Dio della mia giustizia; quand’ero in distretta, tu m’hai messo al largo; abbi pietà di me ed esaudisci la mia preghiera!
[For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm by David.] Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. You set me free in my distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
2 Figliuoli degli uomini, fino a quando sarà la mia gloria coperta d’obbrobrio? Fino a quando amerete vanità e andrete dietro a menzogna? (Sela)
You sons of man, how long will you shame my honor, love what is worthless, chase after a lie? (Selah)
3 Sappiate che l’Eterno s’è appartato uno ch’egli ama; l’Eterno m’esaudirà quando griderò a lui.
But know that the LORD works wonders for his godly one; the LORD will hear when I call to him.
4 Tremate e non peccate; ragionate nel cuor vostro sui vostri letti e tacete. (Sela)
Be angry, but do not sin. Ponder in your heart, but be at rest on your bed. (Selah)
5 Offrite sacrifizi di giustizia, e confidate nell’Eterno.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
6 Molti van dicendo: Chi ci farà veder la prosperità? O Eterno, fa’ levare su noi la luce del tuo volto!
Many say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of your face upon us.
7 Tu m’hai messo più gioia nel cuore che non provino essi quando il loro grano e il loro mosto abbondano.
You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and wine and oil abound.
8 In pace io mi coricherò e in pace dormirò, perché tu solo, o Eterno, mi fai abitare in sicurtà.
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me live in safety.
