Proverbi 29
1 L’uomo che, essendo spesso ripreso, irrigidisce il collo, sarà di subito fiaccato, senza rimedio.
The man that with a stiff neck despiseth him that reproveth him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him.
2 Quando i giusti son numerosi, il popolo si rallegra: ma quando domina l’empio, il popolo geme.
When just men increase, the people shall rejoice: when the wicked shall bear rule, the people shall mourn.
3 L’uomo che ama la sapienza, rallegra suo padre; ma chi frequenta le meretrici dissipa i suoi beni.
A man that loveth wisdom, rejoiceth his father: but he that maintaineth bar lots, shall squander away his substance.
4 Il re, con la giustizia, rende stabile il paese; ma chi pensa solo a imporre tasse, lo rovina.
A just king setteth up the land: a covetous man shall destroy it.
5 L’uomo che lusinga il prossimo, gli tende una rete davanti ai piedi.
A man that speaketh to his friend with flattering and dissembling words, spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 Nella trasgressione del malvagio v’è un’insidia; ma il giusto canta e si rallegra.
A snare shall entangle the wicked man when he sinneth: and the just shall praise and rejoice.
7 Il giusto prende conoscenza della causa de’ miseri, ma l’empio non ha intendimento né conoscenza.
The just taketh notice of the cause of the poor: the wicked is void of knowledge.
8 I beffardi soffian nel fuoco delle discordie cittadine, ma i savi calmano le ire.
Corrupt men bring a city to ruin: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 Se un savio viene a contesa con uno stolto, quello va in collera e ride, e non c’è da intendersi.
If a wise man contend with a fool, whether he be angry or laugh, he shall find no rest.
10 Gli uomini di sangue odiano chi è integro, ma gli uomini retti ne proteggono la vita.
Bloodthirsty men hate the upright: but just men seek his soul.
11 Lo stolto dà sfogo a tutta la sua ira, ma il savio rattiene la propria.
A fool uttereth all his mind: a wise man deferreth, and keepeth it till afterwards.
12 Quando il sovrano dà retta alle parole menzognere, tutti i suoi ministri sono empi.
A prince that gladly heareth lying words, hath all his servants wicked.
13 Il povero e l’oppressore s’incontrano; l’Eterno illumina gli occhi d’ambedue.
The poor man and the creditor have met one another: the Lord is the enlightener of them both.
14 Il re che fa ragione ai miseri secondo verità, avrà il trono stabilito in perpetuo.
The king that judgeth the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 La verga e la riprensione dànno sapienza; ma il fanciullo lasciato a sé stesso, fa vergogna a sua madre.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but the child that is left to his own will bringeth his mother to shame.
16 Quando abbondano gli empi, abbondano le trasgressioni; ma i giusti ne vedranno la ruina.
When the wicked are multiplied, crimes shall be multiplied: but the just shall see their downfall.
17 Correggi il tuo figliuolo; egli ti darà conforto, e procurerà delizie all’anima tua.
Instruct thy son, and he shall refresh thee, and shall give delight to thy soul.
18 Quando non c’è visioni, il popolo è senza freno; ma beato colui che osserva la legge!
When prophecy shall fail, the people shall be scattered abroad: but he that keepeth the law is blessed.
19 Uno schiavo non si corregge a parole; anche se comprende, non ubbidisce.
A slave will not be corrected by words: because he understandeth what thou sayest, and will not answer.
20 Hai tu visto un uomo precipitoso nel suo parlare? C’è più da sperare da uno stolto che da lui.
Hast thou seen a man hasty to speak? folly is rather to be looked for, than his amendment.
21 Se uno alleva delicatamente da fanciullo il suo servo, questo finirà per voler essere figliuolo.
He that nourisheth his servant delicately from his childhood, afterwards shall find him stubborn.
22 L’uomo iracondo fa nascere contese, e l’uomo collerico abbonda in trasgressioni.
A passionate man provoketh quarrels: and he that is easily stirred up to wrath, shall be more prone to sin.
23 L’orgoglio abbassa l’uomo, ma chi è umile di spirito ottiene gloria.
Humiliation followeth the proud: and glory shall uphold the humble of spirit.
24 Chi fa società col ladro odia l’anima sua; egli ode la esecrazione e non dice nulla.
He that is partaker with a thief, hateth his own soul: he heareth one putting him to his oath, and discovereth not.
25 La paura degli uomini costituisce un laccio, ma chi confida nell’Eterno è al sicuro.
He that feareth man, shall quickly fall: he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be set on high.
26 Molti cercano il favore del principe, ma l’Eterno fa giustizia ad ognuno.
Many seek the face of the prince: but the judgment of every one cometh forth from the Lord.
27 L’uomo iniquo è un abominio per i giusti, e colui che cammina rettamente è un abominio per gli empi.
The just abhor the wicked man: and the wicked loathe them that are in the right way. The son that keepeth the word, shall be free from destruction.
