Giobbe 23
1 Allora Giobbe rispose e disse:
Then Job answered and said,
2 “Anche oggi il mio lamento è una rivolta, per quanto io cerchi di comprimere il mio gemito.
Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3 Oh sapessi dove trovarlo! potessi arrivare fino al suo trono!
Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
4 Esporrei la mia causa dinanzi a lui, riempirei d’argomenti la mia bocca.
I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 Saprei quel che mi risponderebbe, e capirei quello che avrebbe da dirmi.
I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.
6 Contenderebbe egli meco con la sua gran potenza? No! invece, mi presterebbe attenzione.
Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
7 Là sarebbe un uomo retto a discutere con lui, e sarei dal mio giudice assolto per sempre.
There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
8 Ma, ecco, se vo ad oriente, egli non c’è; se ad occidente, non lo trovo;
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
9 se a settentrione, quando vi opera, io non lo veggo; si nasconde egli nel mezzodì, io non lo scorgo.
On the left hand, where he does work, but I cannot behold him: he hides himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
10 Ma la via ch’io batto ei la sa; se mi mettesse alla prova, ne uscirei come l’oro.
But he knows the way that I take: when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11 Il mio piede ha seguito fedelmente le sue orme, mi son tenuto sulla sua via senza deviare;
My foot has held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
12 non mi sono scostato dai comandamenti delle sue labbra, ho riposto nel mio seno le parole della sua bocca.
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
13 Ma la sua decisione e una; chi lo farà mutare? Quello ch’ei desidera, lo fa;
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desires, even that he does.
14 egli eseguirà quel che di me ha decretato; e di cose come queste ne ha molte in mente.
For he performs the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.
15 Perciò nel suo cospetto io sono atterrito; quando ci penso, ho paura di lui.
Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
16 Iddio m’ha tolto il coraggio, l’Onnipotente mi ha spaventato.
For God makes my heart soft, and the Almighty troubles me:
17 Questo mi annienta: non le tenebre, non la fitta oscurità che mi ricopre.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither has he covered the darkness from my face.
