Giobbe 20
1 Allora Tsofar di Naama rispose e disse:
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,
2 “Quel che tu dici mi spinge a risponderti e ne suscita in me il fervido impulso.
“I'm forced to reply because I'm really upset!
3 Ho udito rimproveri che mi fanno oltraggio; ma lo spirito mio mi darà una risposta assennata.
What I hear you say insults me, but I know how to reply to you!
4 Non lo sai tu che in ogni tempo, da che l’uomo è stato posto sulla terra,
Don't you know that since ancient times, since human beings were put on this earth,
5 il trionfo de’ malvagi è breve, e la gioia degli empi non dura che un istante?
that the triumph of the wicked doesn't last long, that those who reject God are only happy for a short time?
6 Quando la sua altezza giungesse fino al cielo ed il suo capo toccasse le nubi,
Even though they are so tall they reach the heavens, even though their heads reach the clouds,
7 l’empio perirà per sempre come lo sterco suo; quelli che lo vedevano diranno: “Dov’è?”
they will vanish forever like their own excrement. People who knew them will ask, ‘Where have they gone?’
8 Se ne volerà via come un sogno, e non si troverà più; dileguerà come una visione notturna.
They will vanish like a dream, never to be found, fleeing like a vision of the night.
9 L’occhio che lo guardava, cesserà di vederlo, e la sua dimora più non lo scorgerà.
Those who once saw them will not see them anymore; their families will never set eyes on them again.
10 I suoi figli si raccomanderanno ai poveri, e le sue mani restituiranno la sua ricchezza.
Their children will have to pay back the poor; they will have to return their wealth.
11 Il vigor giovanile che gli riempiva l’ossa giacerà nella polvere con lui.
Though the wicked have bodies that are young and strong, they will die and be buried.
12 Il male è dolce alla sua bocca, se lo nasconde sotto la lingua,
Though evil tastes sweet in their mouths and they hide it under their tongues,
13 lo risparmia, non lo lascia andar giù, lo trattiene sotto al suo palato:
not letting it go but keeping it in their mouths,
14 ma il cibo gli si trasforma nelle viscere, e gli diventa in corpo veleno d’aspide.
in their stomachs it turns bitter, becoming like snake venom inside them.
15 Ha trangugiato ricchezze e le vomiterà; Iddio stesso gliele ricaccerà dal ventre.
They swallow wealth and vomit it up again; God forces it from their stomachs.
16 Ha succhiato veleno d’aspide, la lingua della vipera l’ucciderà.
They suck in snake venom; the bite of the viper will kill them.
17 Non godrà più la vista d’acque perenni, né di rivi fluenti di miele e di latte.
They will not live to enjoy the streams, the rivers of milk and honey.
18 Renderà il frutto delle sue fatiche, senza poterlo ingoiare. Pari alla sua ricchezza sarà la restituzione che ne dovrà fare, e così non godrà dei suoi beni.
They will have to give back what they have gained and will not have any benefit; they will not enjoy any of their profits.
19 Perché ha oppresso e abbandonato il povero, s’è impadronito di case che non avea costruite;
For they have oppressed and abandoned the poor; they have seized houses they did not build.
20 perché la sua ingordigia non conobbe requie, egli non salverà nulla di ciò che ha tanto bramato.
Because their greed was never satisfied, nothing they liked is left that they didn't consume.
21 La sua voracità non risparmiava nulla, perciò il suo benessere non durerà.
Nothing escapes their ravenous appetites, so their happiness doesn't last long.
22 Nel colmo dell’abbondanza, si troverà in penuria; la mano di chiunque ebbe a soffrir tormenti si leverà contro lui.
Even when the wicked have all that they want they run into trouble; all kinds of misery will fall upon them.
23 Quando starà per riempirsi il ventre, ecco Iddio manderà contro a lui l’ardor della sua ira; gliela farà piovere addosso per servirgli di cibo.
While they are busy filling their bellies, God's hostility will burn against them, raining down on them.
24 Se scampa alle armi di ferro, lo trafigge l’arco di rame.
As they flee to escape an iron weapon, a bronze arrow will strike them down.
25 Si strappa il dardo, esso gli esce dal corpo, la punta sfolgorante gli vien fuori dal fiele, lo assalgono i terrori della morte.
The arrow is pulled out of their gall bladder, glistening with blood. They are absolutely terrified!
26 Buio profondo è riservato a’ suoi tesori; lo consumerà un fuoco non attizzato dall’uomo, che divorerà quel che resta nella sua tenda.
All they value will disappear into the darkness; divine fire will destroy them; all they have left will go up in smoke.
27 Il cielo rivelerà la sua iniquità, e la terra insorgerà contro di lui.
The heavens reveal what they have done wrong; the earth will rise up against them.
28 Le rendite della sua casa se n’andranno, portate via nel giorno dell’ira di Dio.
All their possessions will be carried from their homes; they will be dragged off on the day of God's judgment.
29 Tale la parte che Dio riserba all’empio, tale il retaggio che Dio gli destina”.
This is the share the wicked receive from God, the inheritance God says they should have.”
