Giobbe 12
1 Allora Giobbe rispose e disse:
Sotheli Joob answeride, and seide,
2 “Voi, certo, valete quanto un popolo, e con voi morrà la sapienza.
Therfor ben ye men aloone, that wisdom dwelle with you?
3 Ma del senno ne ho anch’io al par di voi, non vi son punto inferiore; e cose come codeste chi non le sa?
And to me is an herte, as and to you, and Y am not lowere than ye; for who knowith not these thingis, whiche ye knowen?
4 Io dunque dovrei essere il ludibrio degli amici! Io che invocavo Iddio, ed ei mi rispondeva; il ludibrio io, l’uomo giusto, integro!
He that is scorned of his frend, as Y am, schal inwardli clepe God, and God schal here hym; for the symplenesse of a iust man is scorned.
5 Lo sprezzo alla sventura è nel pensiero di chi vive contento; esso è sempre pronto per coloro a cui vacilla il piede.
A laumpe is dispisid at the thouytis of riche men, and the laumpe is maad redi to a tyme ordeyned.
6 Sono invece tranquille le tende de’ ladroni e chi provoca Iddio, chi si fa un dio della propria forza, se ne sta al sicuro.
The tabernaclis of robberis ben plenteuouse, `ether ful of goodis; and boldli thei terren God to wraththe, whanne he hath youe alle thingis in to her hondis.
7 Ma interroga un po’ gli animali, e te lo insegneranno; gli uccelli del cielo, e te lo mostreranno;
No wondur, ax thou beestis, and tho schulen teche thee; and axe thou volatilis of the eir, and tho schulen schewe to thee.
8 o parla alla terra ed essa te lo insegnerà, e i pesci del mare te lo racconteranno.
Speke thou to the erthe, and it schal answere thee; and the fischis of the see schulen telle tho thingis.
9 Chi non sa, fra tutte queste creature, che la mano dell’Eterno ha fatto ogni cosa,
Who knowith not that the hond of the Lord made alle these thingis?
10 ch’egli tiene in mano l’anima di tutto quel che vive, e lo spirito di ogni essere umano?
In whos hond the soule is of ech lyuynge thing, and the spirit, `that is, resonable soule, of ech fleisch of man.
11 L’orecchio non discerne esso le parole, come il palato assaggia le vivande?
Whether the eere demeth not wordis, and the chekis of the etere demen sauour?
12 Nei vecchi si trova la sapienza e lunghezza di giorni da intelligenza.
Wisdom is in elde men, and prudence is in myche tyme.
13 Ma in Dio stanno la saviezza e la potenza, a lui appartengono il consiglio e l’intelligenza.
Wisdom and strengthe is at God; he hath counsel and vndurstondyng.
14 Ecco, egli abbatte, e niuno può ricostruire; Chiude un uomo in prigione, e non v’è chi gli apra.
If he distrieth, no man is that bildith; if he schittith in a man, `noon is that openith.
15 Ecco, egli trattiene le acque, e tutto inaridisce; le lascia andare, ed esse sconvolgono la terra.
If he holdith togidere watris, alle thingis schulen be maad drie; if he sendith out tho watris, tho schulen distrie the erthe.
16 Egli possiede la forza e l’abilità; da lui dipendono chi erra e chi fa errare.
Strengthe and wisdom is at God; he knowith bothe hym that disseyueth and hym that is disseyued.
17 Egli manda scalzi i consiglieri, colpisce di demenza i giudici.
And he bryngith conselours in to a fonned eende, and iugis in to wondryng, ethir astonying.
18 Scioglie i legami dell’autorità dei re e cinge i loro fianchi di catene.
He vnbindith the girdil of kyngis, and girdith her reynes with a coorde.
19 Manda scalzi i sacerdoti, e rovescia i potenti.
He ledith her prestis with out glorie, and he disseyueth the principal men, `ethir counselours;
20 Priva della parola i più eloquenti, e toglie il discernimento ai vecchi.
and he chaungith the lippis of sothefast men, and takith awei the doctrine of elde men.
21 Sparge lo sprezzo sui nobili, e rallenta la cintura ai forti.
He schedith out dispisyng on princes, and releeueth hem, that weren oppressid.
22 Rivela le cose recondite, facendole uscir dalle tenebre, e trae alla luce ciò ch’è avvolto in ombra di morte.
Which schewith depe thingis fro derknessis; and bryngith forth in to liyt the schadewe of deeth.
23 Aggrandisce i popoli e li annienta, amplia le nazioni e le riconduce nei loro confini;
Which multiplieth folkis, and leesith hem, and restorith hem destried in to the hool.
24 Toglie il senno ai capi della terra, e li fa errare in solitudini senza sentiero.
Which chaungith the herte of princes of the puple of erthe; and disseyueth hem, that thei go in veyn out of the weie.
25 Van brancolando nelle tenebre, senza alcuna luce, e li fa barcollare come ubriachi.
Thei schulen grope, as in derknessis, and not in liyt; and he schal make hem to erre as drunken men.
