Geremia 7
1 La parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte dell’Eterno, dicendo:
The word that came unto Jeremiah, from Yahweh saying: —
2 Fermati alla porta della casa dell’Eterno, e quivi proclama questa parola: Ascoltate la parola dell’Eterno, o voi tutti uomini di Giuda ch’entrate per queste porte per prostrarvi dinanzi all’Eterno!
Stand thou in the gate of the house of Yahweh, and thou shalt proclaim there this word, —and shalt say—Hear ye the word of Yahweh all Judah ye who are entering in at these gates, to bow down unto Yahweh:
3 Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Emendate le vostre vie e le vostre opere, ed io vi farò dimorare in questo luogo.
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, Amend your ways, and your doings, —That I may cause you to dwell in this place.
4 Non ponete la vostra fiducia in parole fallaci, dicendo: “Questo è il tempio dell’Eterno, il tempio dell’Eterno, il tempio dell’Eterno!”
Do not, on your part trust in false words, saying, —The temple of Yahweh The temple of Yahweh, The temple of Yahweh they are!
5 Ma se emendate veramente le vostre vie e le vostre opere, se praticate sul serio la giustizia gli uni verso gli altri,
But, if ye shall thoroughly amend, your ways, and your doings, —Shall thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbour;
6 se non opprimete lo straniero, l’orfano e la vedova, se non spargete sangue innocente in questo luogo e non andate per vostra sciagura dietro ad altri dèi,
The sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, shall not oppress, And innocent blood, shall not shed in this place, —And after other gods, shall not walk to your own hurt,
7 io altresì vi farò abitare in questo luogo, nel paese che ho dato ai vostri padri in sempiterno.
Then will I cause you to dwell In this place, In the land which I gave to your fathers, —From one age even unto another,
8 Ecco, voi mettete la vostra fiducia in parole fallaci, che non giovano a nulla.
Lo! ye, on your part, are trusting in false words, —To no profit!
9 Come! Voi rubate, uccidete, commettete adulteri, giurate il falso, offrite profumi a Baal, andate dietro ad altri dèi che prima non conoscevate,
Are ye to steal, commit murder and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, —and walk after other gods whom ye have not known;
10 e poi venite a presentarvi davanti a me, in questa casa, sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, e dite: “Siamo salvi!” e ciò per compiere tutte queste abominazioni?! E’ ella forse, agli occhi vostri, una spelonca di ladroni
And will ye then come in and stand before me in this house whereon my Name hath been called, and say, —We have set ourselves free, —for the purpose of committing all these abominations?
11 questa casa sulla quale è invocato il mio nome? Ecco, tutto questo io l’ho veduto, dice l’Eterno.
A den of robbers, hath this house on which my Name hath been called become in your own eyes? I, also, —lo! I have seen it Declareth Yahweh.
12 Andate dunque al mio luogo ch’era a Silo, dove avevo da prima stanziato il mio nome, e guardate come l’ho trattato, a motivo della malvagità del mio popolo d’Israele.
For go I pray you, unto my place which was in Shiloh, Where I made my Name to dwell, at first, —And see what I did to it, because of the wickedness of my people Israel!
13 Ed ora, poiché avete commesso tutte queste cose, dice l’Eterno, poiché v’ho parlato, parlato fin dal mattino, e voi non avete dato ascolto, poiché v’ho chiamati e voi non avete risposto,
Now, therefore—Because ye have done all these deeds Declareth Yahweh, —And though I spake unto you betimes speaking, Yet ye hearkened not, And though I cried unto you Yet ye answered not,
14 io tratterò questa casa, sulla quale è invocato il mio nome e nella quale riponete la vostra fiducia, e il luogo che ho dato a voi e ai vostri padri, come ho trattato Silo;
Therefore will I do to the house Whereon my Name hath been called Wherein, ye, are trusting, Even to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, —Just as I did unto Shiloh;
15 e vi caccerò dal mio cospetto, come ho cacciato tutti i vostri fratelli, tutta la progenie d’Efraim.
And will cast you out from before me, —Just as I have cast out All your brethren, All the seed of Ephraim.
16 E tu non intercedere per questo popolo, non innalzare per essi supplicazioni o preghiere, e non insistere presso di me, perché non t’esaudirò.
Thou, therefore—Do not pray for this people Neither lift up for them cry or prayer Neither intercede with me, —For I am not going to hear thee.
17 Non vedi tu quello che fanno nelle città di Giuda e nelle vie di Gerusalemme?
Dost thou not see what, they, are doing In the cities of Judah, —and In the streets of Jerusalem?
18 I figliuoli raccolgon le legna, i padri accendono il fuoco, e le donne intridon la pasta per far delle focacce alla regina del cielo e per far delle libazioni ad altri dèi, per offendermi.
The children, gather wood, and The fathers, kindle the fire, and The women, knead dough, —To make sacrificial cakes to the queen of the heavens, And to pour out drink-offerings to other gods, Provoking me to anger!
19 E’ proprio me che offendono? dice l’Eterno; non offendon essi loro stessi, a loro propria confusione?
Is it me, they are provoking? Enquireth Yahweh, —Is it not themselves, —unto the shame of their own faces?
20 Perciò così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Ecco, la mia ira, il mio furore, si riversa su questo luogo, sugli uomini e sulla bestie, sugli alberi della campagna e sui frutti della terra; essa consumerà ogni cosa e non si estinguerà.
Wherefore, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh—Lo! mine anger and mine indignation, are about to be poured out upon this place, On man and on beast, and On the tree of the field and On the fruit of the ground, —And it shall burn and shall not be quenched.
21 Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Aggiungete i vostri olocausti ai vostri sacrifizi, e mangiatene la carne!
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, —Your ascending-offerings, add ye unto your peace-offerings and eat ye flesh.
22 Poiché io non parlai ai vostri padri e non diedi loro alcun comandamento, quando li trassi fuori dal paese d’Egitto, intorno ad olocausti ed a sacrifizi;
For I bade not your fathers Neither commanded I them, In the day I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, —Concerning the matter of ascending-offering and peace-offering;
23 ma questo comandai loro: “Ascoltate la mia voce, e sarò il vostro Dio, e voi sarete il mio popolo; camminate in tutte le vie ch’io vi prescrivo affinché siate felici”.
But, this thing, I commanded them—saying, Hearken ye unto my voice, So will I become unto you—a God, And, ye, shall become unto me—a people, —Ye shall therefore walk in all the way that I may command you, To the end it may be well with you;
24 Ma essi non ascoltarono, non prestarono orecchio, ma camminarono seguendo i consigli e la caparbietà del loro cuore malvagio, e invece di andare avanti si sono vòlti indietro.
Yet they hearkened not Neither inclined their ear, But walked, In the counsels—In the stubbornness of their own wicked heart; And went backward, and not forward.
25 Dal giorno che i vostri padri uscirono dal paese d’Egitto fino al dì d’oggi, io v’ho mandato tutti i miei servi, i profeti, e ve l’ho mandati ogni giorno, fin dal mattino;
Ever since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt, until this day, Have I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, Daily, betimes, sending them;
26 ma essi non m’hanno ascoltato, non hanno prestato orecchio; hanno fatto il collo duro; si son condotti peggio de’ loro padri.
Yet they hearkened not unto me, Neither inclined their ear, —But stiffened their neck, They did more wickedly than their fathers.
27 Di’ loro tutte queste cose, ma essi non t’ascolteranno; chiamali, ma essi non ti risponderanno.
Therefore shalt thou speak unto them all these words, Though they do not hearken unto thee, —And thou shalt cry aloud unto them Though they do not answer thee; —
28 Perciò dirai loro: Questa è la nazione che non ascolta la voce dell’Eterno, del suo Dio, e che non vuol accettare correzione; la fedeltà è perita, è venuta meno nella loro bocca.
But thou shalt say unto them, —This, is the nation that hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh its God, Neither accepted they correction, —Perished is fidelity, And is cut off out of their mouth.
29 Raditi la chioma, e buttala via, e leva sulle alture un lamento, poiché l’Eterno rigetta e abbandona la generazione ch’è divenuta oggetto della sua ira.
Cut thou off thy crown of hair [O Jerusalem], and cast it away, And lift thou up on the bare heights, a dirge, —For Yahweh hath rejected and cast out the generation with which he was wroth.
30 I figliuoli di Giuda hanno fatto ciò ch’è male agli occhi miei, dice l’Eterno; hanno collocato le loro abominazioni nella casa sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, per contaminarla.
For the sons of Judah, have done, that which was wicked in mine eyes, Declareth Yahweh, —They have set their abominations in the house whereon my Name hath been called to defile it;
31 Hanno edificato gli alti luoghi di Tofet, nella valle del figliuolo di Hinnom, per bruciarvi nel fuoco i loro figliuoli e le loro figliuole: cosa che io non avevo comandata, e che non m’era mai venuta in mente.
And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, To burn up their sons and their daughters in the fire, —Which I commanded not, Neither came it up on my heart,
32 Perciò, ecco, i giorni vengono, dice l’Eterno, che non si dirà più “Tofet” né “la valle del figliuolo di Hinnom”, ma “la valle del massacro”, e, per mancanza di spazio, si seppelliranno i morti a Tofet.
Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When it shall not be called any more—The Topheth, nor The valley of Ben-hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter, —And they shall bury in Topheth, for want of place;
33 E i cadaveri di questo popolo serviran di pasto agli uccelli del cielo e alle bestie della terra; e non vi sarà alcuno che li scacci.
And the dead bodies of this people shall become food, For the bird of the heavens, and For the beast of the earth, —And there shall be none to drive them away.
34 E farò cessare nelle città di Giuda e per le strade di Gerusalemme i gridi di gioia e i gridi d’esultanza, il canto dello sposo e il canto della sposa, perché il paese sarà una desolazione.
So will I cause to cease, From the cities of Judah, and, From the streets of Jerusalem, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, The voice of the bridegroom, and The voice of the bride, —For, a desolation, shall the land become.
