Geremia 40

1 La parola che fu rivolta dall’Eterno a Geremia, dopo che Nebuzaradan, capo delle guardie, l’ebbe rimandato da Rama. Quando questi lo fece prendere, Geremia era incatenato in mezzo a tutti quelli di Gerusalemme e di Giuda, che dovevano esser menati in cattività a Babilonia.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive to Babylon.

2 Il capo delle guardie prese dunque Geremia, e gli disse: “L’Eterno, il tuo Dio, aveva pronunziato questo male contro questo luogo;

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, The LORD your God has pronounced this evil on this place.

3 e l’Eterno l’ha fatto venire e ha fatto come aveva detto, perché voi avete peccato contro l’Eterno, e non avete dato ascolto alla sua voce; perciò questo v’è avvenuto.

Now the LORD has brought it, and done according as he has said: because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come on you.

4 Ora ecco, io ti sciolgo oggi dalle catene che hai alle mani; se ti piace di venire con me a Babilonia, vieni; e io avrò cura di te; ma se non t’aggrada di venir con me a Babilonia, rimantene; ecco, tutto il paese ti sta dinanzi; va’ dove ti piacerà e ti converrà d’andare”.

And now, behold, I loose you this day from the chains which were on your hand. If it seem good to you to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well to you: but if it seem ill to you to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before you: where it seems good and convenient for you to go, thither go.

5 E come Geremia non si decideva a tornare con lui, l’altro aggiunse: “Torna da Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, figliuolo di Shafan, che il re di Babilonia ha stabilito sulle città di Giuda, e dimora con lui in mezzo al popolo; ovvero va’ dovunque ti piacerà”. E il capo delle guardie gli diede delle provviste e un regalo, e l’accomiatò.

Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wherever it seems convenient to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

6 E Geremia andò da Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, a Mitspa, e dimorò con lui in mezzo al popolo che era rimasto nel paese.

Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelled with him among the people that were left in the land.

7 Or quando tutti i capi delle forze che erano per le campagne ebbero inteso, essi e la loro gente, che il re di Babilonia aveva stabilito Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, sul paese, e che gli aveva affidato gli uomini, le donne, i bambini, e quelli tra i poveri del paese che non erano stati menati in cattività a Babilonia,

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

8 si recarono da Ghedalia a Mitspa: erano Ismael, figliuolo di Nethania, Johanan e Gionathan, figliuoli di Kareah, Seraia, figliuolo di Tanhumeth, i figliuoli di Efai di Netofa, e Jezania, figliuolo del Maacatita: essi e i loro uomini.

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

9 E Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, figliuolo di Shafan, giurò loro e alla lor gente, dicendo: “Non temete di servire i Caldei; abitate nel paese, servite il re di Babilonia, e tutto andrà bene per voi.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 Quanto a me, ecco, io risiederò a Mitspa per tenermi agli ordini dei Caldei, che verranno da noi; e voi raccogliete il vino, le frutta d’estate e l’olio; metteteli nei vostri vasi, e dimorate nelle città di cui avete preso possesso”.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come to us: but you, gather you wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.

11 Anche tutti i Giudei ch’erano in Moab, fra gli Ammoniti, nel paese d’Edom e in tutti i paesi, quand’udirono che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato un residuo in Giuda e che avea stabilito su di loro Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, figliuolo di Shafan,

Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

12 se ne tornarono da tutti i luoghi dov’erano stati dispersi, e si recarono nel paese di Giuda, da Ghedalia, a Mitspa; e raccolsero vino e frutta d’estate in grande abbondanza.

Even all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

13 Or Johanan, figliuolo di Kareah, e tutti i capi delle forze che erano per la campagna, vennero da Ghedalia a Mitspa, e gli dissero:

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 “Sai tu che Baalis, re degli Ammoniti, ha mandato Ismael, figliuolo di Nethania, per toglierti la vita?” Ma Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, non credette loro.

And said to him, Do you certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay you? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

15 Allora Johanan, figliuolo di Kareah, disse segretamente a Ghedalia, a Mitspa: “Lasciami andare a uccidere Ismael, figliuolo di Nethania; nessuno lo risaprà; e perché ti toglierebbe egli la vita, e tutti i Giudei che si son raccolti presso di te andrebbero essi dispersi, e il residuo di Giuda perirebb’egli?”

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly saying, Let me go, I pray you, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he slay you, that all the Jews which are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

16 Ma Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahikam, disse a Johanan, figliuolo di Kareah: “Non lo fare perché quello che tu dici d’Ismael è falso”.

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing: for you speak falsely of Ishmael.
