Isaia 21

1 Oracolo contro il deserto marittimo. Come gli uragani del mezzodì quando si scatenano, ei viene dal deserto, da un paese spaventoso.

The doom of the desert by the sea. As tempests in the south blow with fury; so doth it come from the desert, from a terrible land.

2 Una visione terribile m’è stata data: “Il perfido agisce con perfidia, il devastatore devasta. Sali, o Elam! Metti l’assedio o Media! Io fo cessare ogni gemito”.

A hard vision hath been told unto me; the traitor dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. “Go up, O 'Elam; besiege, O Media;” all sighing have I caused to cease.

3 Perciò i miei fianchi son pieni si dolori; delle doglie m’han còlto, pari alle doglie d’una donna di parto; io mi contorco, per quel che sento; sono spaventato da quel che vedo.

Therefore are my loins filled with pain; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I am too much cramped to hear; I am too much dismayed to see.

4 Il mio cuore si smarrisce, il terrore s’impossessa di me; la sera, alla quale anelavo, è diventato per me uno spavento.

My heart wandereth astray, dread affrighteth me: the evening of my pleasure hath he turned unto me into terror.

5 Si prepara la mensa, veglian le guardie, si mangia, si beve… “In piedi, o capi! ungete lo scudo!”

Prepare the table, put on the candlesticks, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

6 Poiché così m’ha parlato il Signore: “Va, metti una sentinella; ch’essa annunzi quel che vedrà!”

For thus hath said unto me the Lord, Go, set the watchman, what he seeth let him tell.

7 Essa vide della cavalleria, de’ cavalieri a due a due, della truppa a dorso d’asini, della truppa a dorso di cammelli; e quella ascoltava, ascoltava attentamente.

And he will see chariots, horsemen in couples, riders on asses, riders on camels; and he shall listen diligently with much heed:

8 Poi gridò come un leone: “O Signore, di giorni io sto del continuo sulla torre di vedetta, e tutte le notti sono in piè nel mio posto di guardia.

And he calleth [like] a lion, Upon the watchtower, O Lord, do I stand continually in the daytime, and on my ward am I set all the nights.

9 Ed ecco venir della cavalleria, dei cavalieri a due a due”. E quella riprese a dire: “Caduta, caduta è Babilonia! e tutte le immagini scolpite de’ suoi dèi giaccion frantumate al suolo”.

And, behold, here cometh a chariot with men, horsemen in couples, and he commenceth and saith, Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods hath he shivered unto the ground.

10 O popolo mio, che ti sei trebbiato come il grano della mia aia, ciò che ho udito dall’Eterno degli eserciti, dall’Iddio d’Israele, io te l’ho annunziato!

O my down-trodden [people, ] and the son of my threshingfloor: that which I have heard from the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I told unto you.

11 Oracolo contro Duma. Mi si grida da Seir: “Sentinella, a che punto è la notte? Sentinella, a che punto è la notte?”

The doom of Dumah. Unto me one calleth out of Se'ir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

12 La sentinella risponde: “Vien la mattina, e vien anche la notte. Se volete interrogare, interrogate pure; tornate un’altra volta”.

The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will desire, desire ye; return, come again.

13 Oracolo contro l’Arabia. Passerete la notte nelle foreste, in Arabia, o carovane dei Dedaniti!

The doom upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanim.

14 Venite incontro all’assetato con dell’acqua, o abitanti del paese di Tema; recate del pane ai fuggiaschi.

Toward him that is thirsty they bring water; the inhabitants of the land of Thema meet with suitable bread the fugitive.

15 Poich’essi fuggon dinanzi alle spade, dinanzi alla spada snudata, dinanzi all’arco teso, dinanzi al furor della battaglia.

Because from the swords are they fled, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the pressure of war.

16 Poiché così m’ha parlato il Signore: “Fra un anno, contato come quello d’un mercenario, tutta la gloria di Kedar sarà venuta meno,

For thus hath said the Lord unto me, Within yet one year, like the years of a hired laborer, shall all the glory of Kedar be at an end:

17 e ciò che resterà del numero dei valorosi arcieri di Kedar sarà poca cosa; poiché l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, l’ha detto”.

And the residue of the number of bows of the mighty men of the children of Kedar shall be small; for the Lord the God of Israel hath spoken it.
