Ezechiele 35

1 E la parola dell’Eterno mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

Yahweh gave me another message. He said,

2 “Figliuol d’uomo, volgi la tua faccia verso il monte di Seir, e profetizza contro di esso,

“You human, turn toward Edom and prophesy what will happen to its people. Say that this is what Yahweh says to them:

3 e digli: Così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Eccomi a te, o monte di Seir! Io stenderò la mia mano contro di te, e ti renderò una solitudine, un deserto.

‘You who live near Seir Mountain [in Edom], I am opposed to you, and I will use my power [MTY] to strike you and cause your country to become a wasteland.

4 Io ridurrò le tue città in rovine, tu diventerai una solitudine, e conoscerai che io sono l’Eterno.

I will cause your country to be ruined and desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

5 Poiché tu hai avuto una inimicizia eterna e hai abbandonato i figliuoli d’Israele in balìa della spada nel giorno della loro calamità, nel giorno che l’iniquità era giunta al colmo,

You have always been enemies of the Israeli people. You [rejoiced] when they experienced a great disaster: [their enemies attacked them with] swords, when I punished them [for the sins that they had committed].

6 com’è vero ch’io vivo, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, io ti metterò a sangue, e il sangue t’inseguirà; giacché non hai avuto in odio il sangue, il sangue t’inseguirà.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will allow [your enemies] to slaughter [MTY] you and continue to slaughter you. You were happy when [LIT] others were slaughtered;

7 E ridurrò il monte di Seir in una solitudine, in un deserto, e ne sterminerò chi va e chi viene.

so I will cause Seir Mountain to be abandoned/deserted, and I will get rid of anyone who enters it or leaves it.

8 Io riempirò i suoi monti dei suoi uccisi; sopra i tuoi colli, nelle tue valli, in tutti i tuoi burroni cadranno gli uccisi dalla spada.

I will cause your mountains to be filled with [the corpses of] those who have been killed. The corpses of those who have been killed by [your enemies’] swords will lie on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.

9 Io ti ridurrò in una desolazione perpetua, e le tue città non saranno più abitate; e voi conoscerete che io sono l’Eterno.

I will cause your land to be deserted forever. No one will live in your towns again. When that happens, you will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

10 Siccome tu hai detto: Quelle due nazioni e que’ due paesi saranno miei, e noi ne prenderemo possesso (e l’Eterno era quivi!),

You people said, “Israel and Judah will become ours. We will take over their territory!” You said that even though I, Yahweh, was still there [and protecting them].

11 com’è vero ch’io vivo, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, io agirò con l’ira e con la gelosia, che tu hai mostrate nel tuo odio contro di loro; e mi farò conoscere in mezzo a loro, quando ti giudicherò.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will punish [MTY] you for being angry with my people, envying them, and hating them.

12 Tu conoscerai che io, l’Eterno, ho udito tutti gli oltraggi che hai proferiti contro i monti d’Israele, dicendo: Essi son desolati; son dati a noi, perché ne facciam nostra preda.

Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all the disgusting things that you have said about the mountains in Israel. You said that they have been ruined/devastated, and that they have been given to you to occupy [MET].

13 Voi, con la vostra bocca, vi siete inorgogliti contro di me, e avete moltiplicato contro di me i vostri discorsi. Io l’ho udito!

When you insulted me, I heard all that you said about me.

14 Così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Quando tutta la terra si rallegrerà, io ti ridurrò in una desolazione.

So this is what I, Yahweh the Lord, say: You people who live on Seir Mountain and in all the other places in Edom, when I cause your land to become desolate, everyone in the entire world will rejoice.

15 Siccome tu ti sei rallegrato perché l’eredità della casa d’Israele era devastata, io farò lo stesso di te: tu diventerai una desolazione, o monte di Seir: tu, e Edom tutto quanto; e si conoscerà che io sono l’Eterno.

You were happy when the land [MTY] of the Israeli people became desolate, so I will cause your land to become desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].’”
