2 Timoteo 2
1 Tu dunque, figliuol mio, fortìficati nella grazia che è in Cristo Gesù,
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace which is by Jesus the Messiah.
2 e le cose che hai udite da me in presenza di molti testimoni, affidale ad uomini fedeli, i quali siano capaci d’insegnarle anche ad altri.
And the things thou hast heard from me by many witnesses, these commit thou to faithful men, who are competent to teach others also.
3 Sopporta anche tu le sofferenze, come un buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.
And endure evils, as a good soldier of Jesus the Messiah.
4 Uno che va alla guerra non s’impaccia delle faccende della vita; e ciò, affin di piacere a colui che l’ha arruolato.
No man, on becoming a soldier, entangleth himself with the business of the world; that he may please him who enlisted him.
5 Parimente se uno lotta come atleta non è coronato, se non ha lottato secondo le leggi.
And if one contend in the games, he is not crowned, unless he contendeth according to the rules.
6 Il lavoratore che fatica dev’essere il primo ad aver la sua parte de’ frutti.
The husbandman who laboreth, ought first to feed on his fruits.
7 Considera quello che dico, poiché il Signore ti darà intelligenza in ogni cosa.
Consider what I say. Our Lord give thee wisdom in all things.
8 Ricordati di Gesù Cristo, risorto d’infra i morti, progenie di Davide, secondo il mio Vangelo;
Be mindful of Jesus the Messiah, that he arose from the dead; who was of the seed of David, according to my gospel,
9 per il quale io soffro afflizione fino ad essere incatenato come un malfattore, ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata.
in which I suffer evils unto bonds, as if an evil-doer: but the word of God is not in bonds.
10 Perciò io sopporto ogni cosa per amor degli eletti, affinché anch’essi conseguano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù con gloria eterna. (aiōnios g166)
Therefore I endure every thing, for the elect's sake; that they also may obtain life, in Jesus the Messiah, with eternal glory. (aiōnios g166)
11 Certa è questa parola: che se muoiamo con lui, con lui anche vivremo;
Faithful is the saying, For if we shall have died with him, we shall also live with him;
12 se abbiam costanza nella prova, con lui altresì regneremo;
and, if we shall have suffered, we shall also reign with him. But if we shall have rejected him, he will reject us.
13 se lo rinnegheremo, anch’egli ci rinnegherà; se siamo infedeli, egli rimane fedele, perché non può rinnegare se stesso.
And if we shall have not believed in him, he abideth in his fidelity; for he cannot reject himself.
14 Ricorda loro queste cose, scongiurandoli nel cospetto di Dio che non faccian dispute di parole, che a nulla giovano e sovvertono chi le ascolta.
Of these things admonish thou them and charge them, before our Lord, that they dispute not, with unprofitable words, to the subversion of those who hear them.
15 Studiati di presentar te stesso approvato dinanzi a Dio: operaio che non abbia ad esser confuso, che tagli rettamente la parola della verità.
And study to present thyself before God, perfectly, a laborer who is not ashamed, one who correctly announceth the word of truth.
16 Ma schiva le profane ciance, perché quelli che vi si danno progrediranno nella empietà
Avoid vain discourses, in which there is no profit; for they very much add to the wickedness of those occupied with them.
17 e la loro parola andrà rodendo come fa la cancrena; fra i quali sono Imeneo e Fileto;
And their discourse, like an eating cancer, will lay hold upon many. And one of these is Hymeneus, and another Philetus;
18 uomini che si sono sviati dalla verità, dicendo che la resurrezione è già avvenuta, e sovvertono la fede di alcuni.
who have wandered from the truth, while they say, The resurrection of the dead hath passed: and they subvert the faith of some.
19 Ma pure il solido fondamento di Dio rimane fermo, portando questo sigillo: “Il Signore conosce quelli che son suoi”, e: “Ritraggasi dall’iniquità chiunque nomina il nome del Signore”.
But the firm foundation of God standeth; and it hath this seal, The Lord knoweth them who are his: and, Let every one who invoketh the name of our Lord, stand aloof from iniquity.
20 Or in una gran casa non ci son soltanto dei vasi d’oro e d’argento, ma anche dei vasi di legno e di terra; e gli uni son destinati a un uso nobile e gli altri ad un uso ignobile.
But in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold or silver, but also of wood and of pottery; and some of them for honor, and some for dishonor.
21 Se dunque uno si serba puro da quelle cose, sarà un vaso nobile, santificato, atto al servigio del padrone, preparato per ogni opera buona.
If therefore any one purge himself from these things, he will be a pure vessel for honor, fit for the use of his Lord, and prepared for every good work.
22 Ma fuggi gli appetiti giovanili e procaccia giustizia, fede, amore, pace con quelli che di cuor puro invocano il Signore.
Fly from all the lusts of youth; and follow after righteousness, and faith, and love, and peace, with them that invoke our Lord with a pure heart.
23 Ma schiva le questioni stolte e scempie, sapendo che generano contese.
Avoid those foolish discussions which afford no instruction; for thou knowest, that they generate contests.
24 Or il servitore del Signore non deve contendere, ma dev’essere mite inverso tutti, atto ad insegnare, paziente,
And a servant of our Lord ought not to contend, but to be mild towards every one, and instructive, and patient;
25 correggendo con dolcezza quelli che contradicono, se mai avvenga che Dio conceda loro di ravvedersi per riconoscere la verità;
that with mildness he may enlighten those who dispute against him, if perhaps God may give them repentance, and they may acknowledge the truth,
26 in guisa che, tornati in sé, escano dal laccio del diavolo, che li avea presi prigionieri perché facessero la sua volontà.
and may recollect themselves, and may escape out of the snare of Satan, at whose pleasure they have been held ensnared.
